  1. I didn't expect my extreme hunger (I've always had ridiculously bad hunger pangs) to return after 30 days. I've been following the program with few exceptions, have not been drinking coffee or soda at all, but my churning stomach and acid feeling is back. I can drinking Water (don't have to sip sip sip) and worry that maybe I stretched my stomach out by not sipping instead. My stomach just hasn't had that "full" feeling since about two weeks after the surgery. I just ate Breakfast an hour ago and I'm already super hungry. This is my worst nightmare post-surgery -- well, not my worst. I had a very easy surgery and recovery and I'm grateful for that. I just really thought and hoped I would not be hungry like this again, especially not so soon. :-(

    Hunger cravings after sleeve?

I am 31 days out and I have hunger hunger (not head hunger). It's not quite as strong as it was before the surgery and I can wait the hour or two until my next meal but it is still there and still annoying. I carry around Quest Bars and will eat half of one if it's an hour until lunch or dinner and my stomach is growling. I'm hopeful that this will decrease in time as I start eating more. And I must admit that my hunger pre-surgery was out of control and ridiculous for some reason I don't understand so at least it's better.

    PURÉED FOOD ..?

I am a Soup lover, and even though it's hot, I made Soups and pureed them. chicken Pot Pie soup was good. Jambalaya without the rice was good. I'm out of that phase now and having some trouble processing meat that isn't pureed. Plus my weight loss has stopped cold since I started on non-pureed meat. But I'm not going back to puree. It was the worse phase. I liked the liquid better.

    Exercise - need motivation.

Exercise is my biggest motivation problem as well. I am ON IT in the food department. Eating just what I should and tracking everything, getting my Protein in and my Water. I just don't like the discomfort and sweating that happens when I exercise. My goal was to walk six days a week but I've not done more than three. This week I got a groin pull that side-lined me but it's better today so I'm meeting a friend at 6pm to walk at least a mile. I know that sounds like not much to many people, but at 370 pounds that is tough for me. I even stop a couple of times during the walk to sit for 60 seconds and get my legs to where they are able to keep moving. I have no answer for motivation in this department other than what has been written. In the past, when I was closer to 250 or 300 pounds, I was MUCH more motivated to get to the gym and really grind it out. But am I missing the chance to get there again by not doing the work now? I pray not.
  5. That's way more than mine suggests. I see surgeon and NUT at 2 weeks, 1 month and 3 months and that's it for the surgeon. Then I start back up with the weight loss doctor every six months for two years and that's all they recommend. You're right, I guess we could make more appointments if needed. My doctors are an hour away so I'm glad to not have to take off work and go down there too often.
  6. It's not something to mess around with, that's for sure. My brother had it after his roux n y and he fell and hurt himself pretty badly. Get a fix from your MD.

    Bingeing after the sleeve

I also have BED and in the first 30 days I binged twice but I managed to do it on 40 calorie fudge pops so my total calorie count for the day still wasn't off the chart. This will be a forever struggle and relapse is part of recovery. I am one of those people who tracks EVERYTHING so that even if I go off the rails I know what I did. Usually it's not as bad as my imagination makes it out to be so tracking helps me. Two donuts is what? 600 calories. Let it go and move past it. Don't let it define you. I'm just glad I can't eat a large pizza in one sitting anymore. The surgery will help so much! I know I will never binge like I used to and that makes me feel great. One day at a time.
  8. Babbs! I LOVE you! I stalled out at 13 pounds lost and have been sitting here for 8 days at 370ish. It's been making me crazy. Feel much better having read this.
  9. I feel so bad that so many good choices are not available to you. The only thing I've eaten that you haven't ruled out is Beans. Soft beans pureed or refried beans (low fat) have quite a bit of Protein in them. You will definitely have to eat more than three times a day to get your protein in. Good luck!
  10. I hit the same stall at 22 days. I don't think we should worry too much about it as I've read on here that it is not uncommon at this stage. I do wonder if you are getting enough Protein. I count mine in an app on my phone and it makes me feel good to see that 80-100 grams of protein number. But if you have energy and feel okay, don't worry about the stall. Good luck.
  11. I lost 13 pounds in 22 days post-op but boy have I hit the STALL. Been at the same weight for 8 days straight. Yes, I weight daily and I don't freak out about things so I'm going to keep doing it. It works for me. Been getting my Protein in and eating about 900 calories a day or so. My walking has stalled out though because of an injury in my groin - hurts like heck. I've thought about adding a Protein Drink or something to get the calories up but I feel fine at this level and it's what my NUT has told me to eat at this point. I'm perplexed but not stressing badly. It's good to read that others have hit this same stall. Hope for the future.
  12. August 11th so today is day 30 and I can transition from pureed foods to soft foods. Eating 80 grams of Protein a day and about 800 calories right now. Lost 22 pounds pre-op but only 13 in the 30 days of post-op. No idea why. I've been following the program and feeling really good. Just stuck at this weight for eight days now. Frustration. I've been eating mostly yogurt and Protein shakes, some eggs, some pureed meat with light mayo, a little fruit with no skins and some cooked carrots. Not sure what to start up on next for the "soft food" phase. Add more vegetables I suppose. I can handle more than the 3 ounces I'm supposed to have (unfortunately) but haven't been abusing that. Oh well, time will tell.

    Calories per day?

I'm getting 80-100 grams of Protein a day and my calories are usually around 900 per day. I was doing 700 for the first month and had a few days at 1,000 but most days are around 900. I'm on month two right now. Hope that helps.
  14. Absolutely no problems here. Smooth as ice. 30 days out and doing great. I had a totally positive mind-set and support system and that helped a lot I think. Do your research - spend time reading on this site - and make your own decision.
  15. I still have moments when I can't believe I actually did this to my body. I'm doing well and losing (slowly) but it is such a permanent change and it's weird to know I will never be able to binge again the way I did when I'm lonely or blue. It's a good thing and I'm glad but I still can't believe it sometimes. It feels so major.
  16. Surgery on Tuesday and took two doses Wednesday and one Thursday and was done. It's different for everyone but I had no pain after two days. Some discomfort but no pain.

    Changing Taste delays

I'm only three days post op but my experience was that everything tasted stronger. Sweet was super sweet. Super super sweet. Better now but still. No desire to eat.
  18. I'm getting grumbling in my gut but no hunger. Three days post op and feeling great. No nausea. No pain but a minor discomfort. No desire to eat but following the program they gave me. Walking 0.3 miles three times a day. It's a short walk but it's enough. Very grateful girl here.
  19. So I was told by the surgeon yesterday that he can not do the Roux n y because of scaring from hysterectomy and ventral hernia so he will only do the sleeve. My insurance will ONLY cover this doctor so I can't shop around for other options. I have only researched the bypass and so am new to this forum looking for information on the sleeve. Will I lose as much weight? Is it more mentally intensive? I don't know what to think about this.

    Start dieting before surgery?

Definitely don't take it personally or as being mean. Unless they are being shaming in some way, they really are trying to help you learn the skills you will need post-op to be successful. If they are being shaming then that is a shame. They should have skills to not do that. Good luck and do a little something each time you can take in to be proud of. You can do this.
  21. I'm lucky because I only have liquids for Breakfast and lunch. For supper we get a lean meat and vegetables. Also, for Snacks we can have a piece of fruit, low-fat yogurt or more veggies. I have lost 12 pounds in 10 days on this and it is giving me a lot of confidence that I can do the post-op diet as well. That's been the most important thing, the psychological boost from following the plan and gaining that confidence.
  22. The thing I have loved about the liquid diet is that it is showing me that I can eat in a very restricted way without going nuts and keep to the program. That is giving me TONS of confidence that I will be able to do this after the surgery as well. I feel so good about losing 12 pounds in 10 days. I have everything in the house that I will need for the first month after surgery so I feel prepared and hopeful. Now I just have to get through 3 1/2 more days until my surgery day and then get up on my feet and start walking!

    Stress/Emotional eating

rosepose, I completely share your concern. The habit of eating off-track will not magically change and I don't believe it will ever go away completely. My hope is that the surgery helps minimize the damage done (I'm hoping to find myself intolerant of ice cream for instance). I am seeing a therapist and that is helping. We talk about finding other ways to bring joy into my life and other ways to reduce stress or loneliness or despair. There are times when I feel so much built up anxiety from not eating I think I'm going to explode. But as was mentioned, breathing and getting back to the "now" is the only way I can cope. I know I can breathe my way through it to the other side. No Cookies in the house is a must. The only thing to snack on in my house is allowed foods. Keeping on keeping on and keeping on coming back here helps. Find good supportive friends/family as well - and a good therapist helps too.
  24. Thank you guys so much for posting this. I'm five-days-to-go pre-op and feel very hopeful that things will go well. I am following the pre-op diet as asked and that already has taught me a lot about staying on program and dealing with the lifestyle changes to come. Congrats to you all.
