  1. Hello! I just got sleeved on 10/9/15, exactly one year after my wife :D. I had a hiatal hernia repair, though. I was starting to think the pain I was experiencing was abnormal, but after scrolling, I see it's not. <_< Ahhhh! I have noticed that it is decreasing in pain and frequency so I will take everyone's word that it will go away at some point.

So, this is my sixth day out of surgery and fourth day home. I'm having trouble meeting my Fluid and Protein intake. I can get in about 45 oz of fluids which is broken up between 1 premade shake, flavored water and about 1/2 cup of Soup. That's a far cry from my physician's goal of 64 oz of fluids and 60 grams of Protein. Where are you guys with your intake or can you recall what it was around this time after surgery?

I think it took me a good 2 weeks to hit 60gms protein & 64ounce fluids. Just keep trying to do better each day.

The gas pain comes later :( Keep walking though :)

I never had any gas pain. If she's not experiencing any, it may not happen to her. Not everyone gets it.

I never had gas pain as well. It's different for every patient.

  2. Hey! So i got my Surgery Date finally. Started this whole process back in Nov2014 and My Surgery Date is *Drum rolls* 9/15/15!!

    I Have a few questions?

What did you guys bring to the hospital with you? Personal Stuff?(Tooth Brushes, Pads, ECT)

Did your Friend/Spouse get to Stay in the patient recovery room with you the whole time?

How long did you stay after the surgery was complete?

Did you have a Laptop or Tablet for entertainment?

Should i get my hair put up so i wont have to worry about maintenance for a few days?

What were you prescribed for the pain?

Any other advice for the whole experience would be great too! :P

I bought a robe, slippers, extra underwear, pads and tampons (was on my cycle), iPad, phone, Chargers, toothbrush and toothpaste.

My family was able to be with me in the pre-op room and prayed with before they took me back for surgery. They were in my room soon after I got there from recovery.

I stayed 2 nights, had a hard time keeping my liquids down the first night.

I got crochet braids, so I wouldn't have to fuss with my hair and wore my scarf at night :-)

I was prescribed OxyContin and stop taking it two days after I got home.

  3. My doctor requires a low carb diet of 20 carbs a day. Does anyone else's surgeon require this? Also my post op is:

    2 weeks clear liquids

    Week 3-4 full liquid

    Week 5-6 purée / soft

    Week 7 soft

    Week 8 start healthy diet

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right. I just signed up on this site. My pre-op is 7 days full liquids. But I'm not real sure if I know what that's supposed to mean. There were no discussions about calories or carbs. My post op is much less restrictive: 3 days clear liquids, 9 days of full liquids, 7 days of puree/soft and then "as tolerated" after 21 days.

I think all surgeons are different. I'm currently on the pre-op low carb diet for 2 weeks. My surgery is the 19th. I have noticed that my post op is a bit stricter than most, but I will follow his instructions.

  5. Maybe, we can support each other on this, if you like. I am going to a birthday party this coming thursday and only my sister knows I am going for surgery which she is going with me for support.

I just joined a secret support group on fb, the administrator is a member here.

Do you know of any other secret Facebook groups? I've only told a few friends and family that I'm having this procedure and would love to join a FB group for additional support

  6. New here and so glad I found this thread. I don't have a date yet, but I've been to a seminar, seen the dietician, and therapist, so far everything is going good and moving along pretty fast. I see the Bariatric Dr again at the end of this month, and hopefully I will have a date set. Good luck to all of you ladies, and I look forward to hearing your stories and updates.

    The time will fly by!

  7. Thanks! It was fairly easy once I got started. I visited my surgeon once a month for 6 months so that they could monitor my weight and check my diet. I was required to visit the psychologist once per my insurance and my surgeon required 3 visits with the nutritionist. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. It's getting closer!

  8. Yes! This waiting for 6 months is a test of my patience but I'm trusting that God knows I need the long process. I'm with Dr. Macik at Northside Bariatrics, I've gone through the psych evaluation and nutritionist so I'm just going through the 2 more weigh ins. Please keep me updated on your process. I look forward to this new leash on life :-)

I have an appointment for my first consult with Dr. Macik this coming Thursday. Is the six months an insurance requirement, or is six months if you self-pay too?

It's my insurance requirements. Hope it all works out for you!

  9. Good luck to everyone starting their journey! I'm just shy of four months out and I've lost 77 lbs. At 5'8", I was 325 lbs and now I'm 248 lbs. My surgeon is extremely pleased. No Hair loss yet. I hope it holds out!

That's awesome and inspirational! I'm 5'9 and 310 so we have a similar starting point. Are you exercising as well?

  10. Does UH require going thru Optum? That isn't clear to me in looking at my paperwork...

Yes and I think it's the best option since you will have nurse guide you through the process and make sure that you are meeting all the requirements. She will also check back with you over the 6 months to make sure your going in the right direction

Finally got my approval today and my

    Surgery date (August 19th)!!!! WooHoo!!!!

Congratulations had my surgery the same day last year. Good luck on your journey

That's awesome! How has your process gone?

  11. up my 6 month supervised diet and a psych evaluation required by my insurance, plus the 3 nutritional visits required by my surgeon. Now I'm in the 2 week waiting zone for insurance approval.

I'm going through the process with Optum Health Bariatric program through United Healthcare. Has anyone else been through this process with UHC? If so, was it a full two weeks? Any other info you have would be great! I'm penciled in for a August 12 surgery date, dependent upon insurance approval.
