  1. Wow- you lost an amazing amount of weight- and two babies/// wins all around! Hi and welcome! I've heard of the 5 day pouch test-- I think any concentrated effort to get back to the basics is worth the time, even if it doesn't yield in weight loss after 5 days. The weight loss will come, building those habits is the harder part. Do you still follow up with your surgeon or nutritionist?

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

You know what I'm finding-- the clearances deals in the plus size section are far better then the clearances deals in the 'regular' section. Maybe stores try to rid themselves of that stuff faster??
  4. Have been good at avoiding the sweets hanging around the office this holiday-- only for my boss's boss to give me a gift box of cookies! I just can't escape this madness!

'sweets' just are not appealing to me....and the very easy way to 'avoid' is to just not eat the first one.....as you know what will happen.....

Like an alcoholic, '1 is too many and 100 is not enough' etc.

  5. It'd be helpful if you outlined what type of revision are you having, along with what tests were run that concluded that you needed a revision? And how has your diet been? Did you main a Protein forward diet, not drink with meals, etc?

    When you gotta go...

A long time ago I read that white, black or red poop is a problem. Did you have a leak test or have to swallow barium? Broil turned my poop whitish... If not Id call about it

NSV goal for an article of clothing?

Yup. I've been shopping a lot in thrift stores, stuff is so cheap I don't bother trying anything on. I currently have 1 pair of jeans and three pairs of dress pants waiting to fit me. My prize 'waiting to fit me' possession at the moment is a dress I bought at Macy's for the spring, it's a size 14, and while I was able to fit it, it will look better by the time spring rolls around. It was $13, down from $89. I write down the date I tried them on last with my weight for that day and tuck it in a pocket of the item, I like seeing how long it took to fit something.
  8. I don't understand the logic here. Stricture is making you sick, can't eat, drink, have pain. He says because the stricture makes the sleeve like a pouch, you should go to bypass?? So he wants to permanently make it into a pouch; knowing that the stricture imposed pouch-like design is causing you issues? Strictures happen with bypass patients too.
  9. Damn, sorry you got off to such a rough start. I hope things going forward are status quo.
  10. @@tdc I think you had your surgery by now, right? How are you doing?
  11. I remember hearing one of the practitioners on my team saying that, the weight would just " fall off" and that was exactly what I was looking for, imagine my disappointment when it didn't. I quantified "falling off" to mean upwards of 6#s a week. And there were a few golden weeks that I experienced such a big loss, but mostly not. And not a single pound was lost without effort...eating right, staying protein focused and exercising. So I say bag humbug to the "it falls right off" line. It comes off consistently, with points of bigger losses....but falling off implies no effort and this takes effort every moment of every day.
  12. I just got a withings bluetooth scale. I like it a lot.

    Dress size conundrum

How has no one mentioned height???? What size one is in at 200# at 5' will vary greatly from 200# an 5'8".

    Planet fitness vs YMCA

I hate the weights at the Y-- when I compare them with the weight machines at Planet fitness-- they seem flimsy. The pulley system the Y has on their weights don't seem like they'd hold up over time. But I like the Y's cardio equipment better, more variety and technology (I can watch TV right on the treadmill, vs. looking up at one of the screen @ PF etc). I don't do exercise classes, but the Y offers them, Planet Fitness doesn't. And then there's cost... the Y is pricey-- and I don't meet "need based pricing." Right now my kids are Y members for the programs, and I'll go while they are there and use the Y's stuff. Overall, I prefer Planet fitness.
  15. I was adamant that daily weighing was a 'bad' idea. Then I started in a weight loss study that requires me to weigh daily. Guess what-- I LOVE it and its not messing with my head at all. I actually feel like I'm doing better with the daily weigh-ins. Not sure if the same would have been the case for me early out-- but I'm more confident with where I am with all of this now-- so bring on the scale I say!
  16. I'm definitely a top down loser...my hips are holding on for dear life.

    Throwing up

I don't see any reason to wait any longer than to the next meal. I'd keep it a light meal though.
  18. I had my RNY at Chestnut Hill, excellent experience. In comparison I had another surgery at Jefferson, and though the surgery itself went well, they were horribly behind the day of surgery. I was scheduled to report at 9:30 and wasn't taken into surgery until 4pm. At chestnut hill I was taken back on time. When you can't eat that waiting can be unbearable! After care was equally good at both hospitals.
  19. I'm 38, married, a mom etc. My advice, tell the select few you know will be supportive, or at least willing to learn about process with you. I told my husband I wanted surgery, he asked why and said ok. I told my sister's, (1 who had WLS) we are close so I knew they'd be supportive. My Mom has a tendency to be a negative Nellie, so I didn't tell her until a few days before surgery. Told no one at work. I feel that because I kept who I told to a minimum, I don't deal with negative comments. All feed back has been positive.

    BLACK FRIDAY WLS DEALS

Online shopping overwhelms me. I end up having 20 tabs open comparison pricing, then give up cause I tell myself there must be a website I can find it cheaper. I like the immediate gratification of bringing something home with me. I prefer to shop alone, I don't like feeling like I'm taking too long to decide. I did both king of Prussia mall and Willowgrove mall this year as well as target. Black Friday it's never about gift shopping, I do that before/after.... This is about getting deals for me :-)

    BLACK FRIDAY WLS DEALS

I beg to differ :-) black Friday shopping veteran here! This is my favorite shopping day of the year!! And I was just shy of 10,000 steps as a result. In the great words of Betty Rubble and Wilma Flintstone.... "Charrrrrge it"
  22. 1st post op thanksgiving taught me that I can't tolerate my own sweet potato pie. It feels as though I swalloowed a lump of butter that rolls forcefully through my defensive system.

Yes, I found the same thing with pumpkin. I wonder if it is the crust for me. I have had my own homemade pumpkin custard before with no problem. This was a few bites from a bakers square pumpkin pie. It was disgustingly sweet and a weird texture. Normally I make my own but just had back surgery and my hubby was insistent that I take short cuts on the bakery since I really don't eat it anyway.

Aww, that's too bad. Maybe it's just too soon. Did you try a bite without the crust?
