    26M two weeks preop!

Hi and welcome! Lots of useful info here, pull up a chair and make yourself at home.

    dental problems post-op?

I've seen a few people complain that they feel the bypass caused or worsened tooth decay. I'm not sold that it can so easily be traced to the surgery. A lifetime of brushing/flossing habits, heredity and keeping up with post op supplements are factors that will affect tooth gum health.

    Day 1 (surgery 2/17/16)

Welcome to the start of the rest of your life! take it one day at a time- learn what work and what doesn't for your new digestive system. I can still eat sweets-- but fats/fried food make me feel no so hot. Nerves are normal-- it shows you are aware of the potential for good and bad t happen. Since you and your hubby are doing it together-- how will you both get home from the hospital?

    SLEEVE OR BYPASS? WHY?

Not all bypass patients dump-- I don't. Actually the % that do dump is really quiet low. So i would not hinge your surgery on the fact that you like sweets and may have a safeguard in dumping to keep you from them. Also, the 1 in 200 dying from bypass-- were they straight bypass, or revisions from some other surgery to bypass? I think that make a HUGE difference. And were those deaths immediately after surgery-- or after many years, when surgery can't as easily be pinpointed to be the main cause of the death. There are a lot of factors that can skew these 'statistics' I chose bypass- I had confidence in my surgeon's skill and experience with this particular surgery. I wanted the additional effect of malabsorpbtion to aid in weight loss since I had so much to lose. I've seen relative with sleeve and lab band be unsuccessful with theirs, so I wanted to try what is known as the gold standard...

    Surgery tmm 2/3/16

Pick a goal-- you can always adjust it later! Best of luck with surgery!
  6. Congrats! Know that that pace won't continue, so embrace it while it melts away.
  7. I think you'll be fine. Congrats on the loss! I'm sure the six months will be filled with ups and downs, so just keep at it
  8. Most insurances go by your initial weight, so I think so; but what's your starting bmi?

    Birth control

Just like with WLS you'll hear all sorts of birth control horror stories. Pills make some crazy, people say shots make them gain weight, etc. I'm on my third IUD and have never had a complication. I also already have two kids and don't plan to have more. Personally I would not recommend am IUD to one without kids. I'm so out of the loop with bc options since I've had an IUD so long, but take others experiences lightly... Everyone reacts differently

    Nervous

You can't have a net gain, so that would mean you can weigh more than you did in your initial weigh in after the three months are done. If you started in November, then by February you need to be the same or less weight. (I'm guessing based on what you wrote) How has your eating been? Are you keeping carbs low, not drinking calories?? I never bought into the period weight gain thing. Sure my weight fluctuates, but I've never seen that fluctuation around my period.
  11. I'm an HR manager for a Fire Department. We have a weight requirement that has to be met before you can even attempt the physical (And our physicals aren't strenuous really, strenuous activity doesn't start until you are in the academy). EMT's and FF's have the same weight requirements here. I'd be surprised if 1) they don't have a weight requirement and 2) they let you do a physical.
  12. Office is ordering pizza/wings today; I politely declined. Sometime it feels like an out of body experience when I hear myself decline certain things...

Maybe it's the pizza and wings that have become outer body, not that you feel it is outer body to decline. Wings always were outer body anyway, teehee.

I felt the same thing when I passed up cake and cupcakes yesterday at an office bday celebration.

My 600 Pound Life: 2016 Season

The only prescription meds I was in post op was carafate, to avoid ulcer formation and pain meds. I thought Dr. now was stretching saying the "swelling" (aka stricture) was a result of not taking meds.

Do i qualify for the surgery ?

It differs for every insurance company and surgeon. 6 month supervised weight loss is pretty standard, pre-op testing and then surgery. In my case I had no supervised diet requirement-- I was about 6 weeks from consultation to surgery.
  15. For me- anything with a high fat content. Fried anything-- nope-- tummy doesn't like that at all. Bacon- Oh how I miss you bacon Bologna- to fatty Some cuts of pork (IE center cut-- I can eat loin end though) pancakes (but oddly bread doesn't bother me at all-- pancakes feel like a led weight in my stomach Farm raised salmon (but I can eat wild caught no problem) Initially mayo didn't sit well- but that has worked itself out.

    6 months post op

That doesn't seem like enough food/ calories to keep your metabolism going. I eat 4 meals a day, one is a snack,. All are protein forward, so I get somewhere from 70-100 grams in a day.

    Lets talk scales....

I have a Withings scale. Personally I wouldn't be concerned about a weight fluctuation over night-- my weight easily fluctuates 1-3#'s day to day with any scale that I've used. (I also have a Taylor). One thing I learned reading my Withings book is you are supposed to ignore the first weight you get, especially if you move the scale between uses-- it has to re-calibrate itself. My Taylor scale is the same way. I generally take the 1st weight from my withings as long as its within the norm of my day to day fluctuations, other wise I step on it a second time. My bluetooth works fine though-- I hear the wi-fi connection can be temperamental.
  18. Its bitter cold out today-- I'm wearing thermals under my pants. No way would I have EVER attempted this at my highest weight...getting pants on was enough of a struggle!!!

    Hi. I'm Dawn

Not to jack the thread, but your new profile pic is amazing! Your face looks so slim!!! Thanks! Mind you this pic is a few months old. Everyone says I've lost "all my weight" in my face-- it messes with my head to hear that, since I wonder if they *don't* see the weight lost on the rest of me. damn mind tricks!
  20. First few days after surgery were a little painful. I took pain meds until my 5th post op day. I purposely timed my surgery to be when the kids are in school. I didn't need them pestering me with questions etc...but they were helpful when they were home. I just didn't want to feel the need to entertain them. I needed all of my focus to be on drinking, walking and protein. I halted all household chores for two weeks, my hubby and kids did everything. By week 3, I was still home but returned to my normal routine. It's been normal ever since.

    Alcohol and Weightloss

What's that sayingz? pot... Kettle....black....nevermind. I'll pass on the advice from one who is 15 weeks post op and already regulalry drinking alcohol and thinking it's aiding in your weight loss. Healthy is my goal though. You've proven not every thin person is healthy.
  22. Hi Tamika, My bmi was 53 to start. I did not have to do 6 months of monitored weight loss. My initial consultation was 3/1/15, surgery date was 4/28/15.
  23. Encourage him to go. Would one of your parents be able to get you from the hospital while the other watches the kids?

    Alcohol and Weightloss

Misfit Shine currently and others in the past. I always burn 2600 to 3500. A 155-pound person burns about 596 calories in 60 minutes going 5 mph on the treadmill. I really think your fit tracker is wrong. Or you may want to cut back from your 8-10 hours of vigorous exercise every day. I agree, I'd toss that fitness tracker fast.
