  1. I wasn't allowed anything the day of surgery. they did give me these sticks with sponges dipped in a mouthwash type liquid I was able to swab my mouth with.they helped a lot.
  2. I didn't have a drain but did have a catheter. I was actually sad when they took the catheter out cause I knew I'd need to move to go to the bathroom on my own. Thank god for the pain pump!

    That horrible gas!

I had surgery the 28th. My gas is only in my abdomen, hasn't shifted anywhere else. It painful to me because of the pressure it puts on the incisions. the gas itself seems like horrible bloating. I can feel the gas move around as I walk, but can only muster up some teeny tiny burps from time to time. I did start passing gas last night, was very happy about that. Luckily I have no issues drinking, but it is hard to tell when I'm full.
  4. Hi, I had my bypass surgery yesterday. My HW was 338, SW was 315. Surgery went well, doc even thanked me for helping him do a good surgery by losing weight pre op. There was a 'slight' hernia repair done as well. When I woke in recovery my pain was at 6.6, that's what I recall telling the nurse. Only pain I felt was in my abdomen, and it was a tightness more than pain. Honestly, it felt like I had a tummy tuck. Apparently it's the gas thats giving that feeling, I realize now is bloating. I have walked a few times, it's hard because I don't feel like I have the lung capacity. I'm using my spirometer faithfully though. I'm off the morphine drip and am taking Tylenol 3 as needed. I have been sipping Water today, don't have any desire for the Jello or broth they gave me. I don't have any nausea. The bloating keeps me from recognizing if I'm full, the doc said not to worry about ounces consumed for now, he just wants to make sure I'm able to drink. I should be discharged today, which I feel confident about. They are setting up for a nurse to visit me at home to. Very happy with my surgeon, and hospital experience.

    How long until your surgery?

I didn't have a Dr supervised weight loss requirement. Had my first visit on 3/4/15, my surgery is tomorrow.

    April 28th

I'm getting ready by deep cleaning my house today. Started last night with the kitchen, emptied and cleaned the fridge. Today is the bathroom, living and dining rooms and my bedroom. If I come home to a messy house it'll make me angry, and I want to start recovery on a good mental note. Only thing I need to buy are slippers, (I hate those hospital socks). I'll pack my bag Monday night. I plan on wearing yoga pants or my work out capris to/ from the hospital.

    April 28th

I'm the 28th too. My pre op diet was 14 days as well. I did eat one night to celebrate my hubby's birthday. My nut also allowed me to have'chunks' in my soup, as long as it was limited to 4oz. As of last Sunday I lost 10#. I weigh again tomorrow. I'm ready!
  8. So I'm following the pre op diet very well, so much so I'm surprising myself. I've lost 11#s. However, I feel worn out, and weak (started feeling like that @ day 2 and it hasn't turned around.) activities I can usually handle with no issue (i.e yard work) leaves me needing to take breaks and not work at my usual pace. And since yesterday I've had no appetite at all. I only got in one shake, Water and Soup. Today, the same. Oddly, I feel bloated which is what I think is suppressing my appetite, and I'm taking gas x to help. But I've eaten nothing to give me that bloated effect... Any thoughts, suggestions?
  9. Hi, So my time frame on this WLS journey was short, my 1st consult was 3/4, my surgery is on 4/28. Just after my first consult I'd interviewed for a position (same company I work for now, just a different dept). I hadn't heard anything back, and when I followed up they said they were still weighing their options. I assumed I didn't get it. Well now I've been offered the position. I need the extra $$, and the idea of starting off in a 'new' place post WLS seems exciting and a great way to kick off the 'new me' thing. I'm also on day 3 of the pre-op diet-- based on how I'm feeling now (low-energy/ somewhat weak), and knowing having a major surgery will further deplete me-- I worry about starting a position with so many questions over how I'll feel, heal etc. I need to have my 'A' game in a new role. I'm taking two weeks off post surgery, and had told my current boss if I didn't feel ready, I would take more time. But if I accept the new position, I'll feel obligated to come back soon, no matter what. So many good things happening for me right now-- but they just conflict with one another!! Any thoughts/insight?
  10. I'm on Day 8, 6 more to go. Yes, I feel weak. You're taking in far less calories than normal, and still burning them too. I couldn't attack my yard work with the usual gusto. I refuse to work out in this phase and expend the energy I do have. Its manageable tough, not impossible.
  11. That didn't sound like dumping, that sounds like vomiting. Dumping usually entails a racing heart, lightheadedness, intestinal cramping etc.

    Super Hangry

I'm in day 7. What helped me is knowing every pound I lose now is one less to lose after surgery.... Therefore making me closer to goal. Also the surgeons picture of a fatty liver vs a healthy one helped too!

    Pre-op diet, day 6

Yes, totally ready for surgery. I'm a little concerned about recovery since I don't feel 100% now, but am ready ready ready!
  14. I had my first consult appointment on 3/4, doc suggested in lose some weight to aid in the operation going smoothly. I set in my mind to lose 5#'s by my next visit (4/8). Sure I lost it and gained and lost.... This has been the story of my life for the past year or so... Two steps forward, two steps back. At (rare) moments I get delusional convincing myself I can do this without surgery..then the blaring reality enters. I'm still proud of my effort, and the changes I've put in place; they are what I'll need long term. I'm sure I'll have a loss by appointment next week, probably not what I had my heart set on. As a former weight watchers leader used to tell me, a loss is a loss, no matter how small!

    WLS/New Job

My new job wouldn't start till after surgery on the 28th. Ideally 5/11. My current boss knows it's wls, she is very supportive and excited for me. I'm not moving the surgery... I refuse to go backwards on the pre op diet lol. I like the idea if part time for a bit if needed. Thanks for the insight!

    WLS/New Job

very good point. I doubt they'd frown on it... I'd just be to uncomfortable to ask. (But if my doc thought it was necessary, I'd get over it fast)

  20. My pscyh eval was about 15 minutes long. No paperwork, just a conversation with the pysch. I was certain to tell him that I've visited my weight/eating issues a long time ago with another therapist; and think I was able to clearly convey that 1) I had a full understanding of what I'm about to do 2) I easily identify with behaviors, habits emotions, etc that have contributed to me be so overweight 3) I am not a threat to myself or others, and based on family history do not have a 'pre-disposition' to addictions, depression.
  21. Thare exactly how mine went.. 15 minutes, approved and done! Your one step closer!
  22. Had my second visit with the surgeon today. All my pre-op requirements are clear, and there submitting me for pre certification! Tentative surgery date of 4/28. And I lost 6#'s!! Woot! Woot!

    Trying again :)

I'm kind if like you, but it took me 5 years to finally decide I was ready. In retrospect, I certainly wasn't ready then. Learn all you need, talk to your bariatric team, you'll know if this time is the right time!
