    A good hurt...

He loves planning stuff for us to do. He's 10. Actually, we're going swimming today. But hiking is a good one, thanks!!
  3. I feel your pain. I picked up an upper respiratory infection a month out. The cough was awful for my incision sites. 2 weeks later I'm just getting over my cough! Feel better

    Good idea for eating slow?

Yes, doing things while eating helps me pace myself. I eat breakfast while doing makeup. Even watching tv is helpful. I make sure my serving size is what it should be so I can't mindlessly eat.
  5. Just looking for insight, I find counting Protein kind of hard... I'm supposed to have 60g a day. Breakfast: 1 egg with cheese. 1.5 turkey sausage links. (My protein count for this meal is ~20g) Protein shake 8oz: 23g+8g from the milk. Lunch: 2 slices Virginia ham, 1 slice honey turkey, 1 slice cheese. (Rolled-up, with Dijon mustard- no bread). (?? Not sure how much protein). Dinner: hamburger slider (1.7 oz- meat only) with 3Tbs baked Beans. (Again, hard to count the protein... The beans have 6g in a 1/2 cup). The meat I'm clueless on... I'm 5 weeks post op rny. Just curious isd this seems to meet the target I have, or if I need to re work things. (I get too hung up when things are not an exact match on my fitness pal, so I avoid tracking on it.)

GOING TO VISIT PCP NEXT WEEK

I skipped my PCP and started with the surgeon directly. I emailed the office for referrals etc, never saw them till after surgery. I'd call your insurance first, see what their requirements are. Then you'll know what records you need from your PCP, if any. Best of luck!!

    Incisions

I recall my incisions being itchy. I think it could have been the adhesive in the steri strips. The itching went away for me in 2 weeks. Unfortunately I'm still battling sharp pain 4 weeks out. An upper respiratory infection left me with a severe cough, hence the severe pain.
  8. All the best for a safe surgery and uncomplicated recovery!

    Fears

I have that fear, it's my second biggest fear (first being surgical complications). Also, of everyone I've known to have bypass personally, none have lost significant weight. I understand ita how you work it that determines success. And I don't know these people so intimately that I could say if it's their fault or the surgery.... How I cope... I go in my hole and do me. I focus on what the doc/nut set for me and forget everyone else's progress, comments and suggestions. I work based on the truths I know about what's good for me and my body.

When did you start having sex again

We waited a week and a half. Missionary was better initially, with his weight not fully on me.
  11. So I'm nearly a month post op, rny. My surgery was uncomplicated, as well as my recovery so far. HW was 335, SW 315 CW 304. I'd be lying if I said that I'm thrilled with my rate of weight loss since surgery, but it's consistent losses, something I haven't been able to achieve without surgery. My mind wants so badly to see 299... So I figure it's toying with me. I have lost inches, I'm in a smaller bra size already though. Adapting to eating had been surprisingly easy. It's just a fact off life of what I can/can't have. My hubby made the comment that he lost his eating buddy yesterday. I think him eating junk alone makes him uncomfortably aware of just how much junk he's eating (good!). I seem to tolerate sugars ok so far, things I've read others have dumped on (ketchup) hasn't phased me. The only thing that I regret was stealing a piece of sausage off of the kids pizza... Felt like a flaming metal ball going down...ugh! I've been having a lot of pain from one incision site, my doc said I was doing too much too soon. So I took it easy again and hope to add in exercise this week as I move on to soft foods. I'm not getting all my Water in and I won't drive myself crazy over it, I'm close though. I do need one Protein shake a day to meet my protein goal. After a walk yesterday I understand why they encourage protein after exercise, I felt dizzy and out of sorts. I'm also battling a bad cold.... Coughing makes the side pain worse though (uhh again!) I phone conference my NUT on Wednesday. There is no way I could take in the amount of food on her sample diet, I think I'm good with two meals and one snack a day.

    scared.

I didn't involve my PCP with my decision to have WLS at all. I went directly to the surgeon, and only emailed my PCP's office aa needed for referrals.
  13. I had bypass 4/28. Planned on taking two weeks, I needed 3. First week I was useless. Second week I was marginally better, but still did not do an inch of house work. Third week I kept saying I'm so glad I took the third week, but was far more functional at home!!! I went back to work 5/18, and my stomach is still tender at spots. I'm careful with what house work I do because if it. I made a point to deep clean my house pre surgery, so there was nothing to do once I was home.
  14. On Tuesday I'll be three weeks post op RNY. I've lost 31 pounds so far, pre and post op. I went to a luncheon with old co-workers Friday, many complimented me on my weight loss. I heard the same from a neighbor and some folks at church. Wow, what an awesome feeling!! (And all I tell people when they ask what I've done is eat less). I'm already down a bra size (band, not cup). I'm a person who always had an overactive bladder. I'd always be searching for a bathroom wherever we went. Since surgery, that's gone. I can run my errands without visiting every toilet known to man. I'm doing well on purees, no nausea, vomiting, stuck or foamies. I go back to work on Monday and start a new position. I'm loving my life even more right now!!
  15. I'm two weeks post op RNY. So today I need to trade out my winter clothes for summer clothes. It dawned on me that I won't need the winter wardrobe I currently have again. I can't wrap my mind around that. I have a smidgen of 'will it work that well' doubt, making me contemplate holding on to everything, just in case. I held on to some of my smaller sizes and I'm thanking my stars I did, it'll save money as I move down in sizes. And another part of me knows I need to let go of my 'fat security blanket'. But there is a familiarity with the wardrobe I have now. I made a point to buy clothes I loved that made me feel good in them, classy etc. Of course I'll love shopping and creating the same with smaller sizes... But letting go ... It's not hard... Just weird.

    Hyperthyroidism

Trust me, they will find if you have a thyroid issue. I had a horrid case of hyperthyroidism, Grave's disease. Are you having symptoms? At my worst, my heart would beat out of my chest, my hand would tremble, my legs were so weak, shortness of breath, I had overactive bowels and was dropping weight super fast, despite eating tons. There is no way a doctor would have done bypass until my thyroid was under control and that (for me) took a long time. I wouldn't go in trying to hide it, especially because how hyperthyroidism effects your heart... I wouldn't encourage you to move forward with surgery without being certain its controlled. I had my rny one year after my thyroidectomy.
  17. I weigh once weekly. I never understood the daily weighers, everyone knows weight can fluctuate day to day, yet drive themselves crazy weighing and worrying about those same factors that can make the weight fluctuate.
  18. Yup, I was achy a few days after surgery too. My arms, back and shoulders.
  19. I chose bypass ( done on 4/28). I didn't have diabetes, but with a strong family history for it, I wanted the procedure that would keep that out of my future. I also felt like sleeve had a greater likelihood of causing GERD, which I didn't want to deal with at all. I also preferred having the detached part of my stomach remain in my body, in case something is needed in the future. I also have close family who've had sleeve and Lapland, I kind of wanted to be the outlier, having RNY.

    Scrambled Eggs!

I tried a scrambled egg today. I was only able to eat a 1/2 of it, and it got cold since I was really taking my time. Cold eggs are gross! I may leave them alone for a while.

Is it CHEATING or is it a CHOICE?

I call them choices, like when I chose to enjoy a birthday dinner with my hubby during my pre-op diet. I hate the cheating term... But.... Another perspective. When my son was diagnosed with autism and I was in a scramble to understand and get him help; many of the communities I became part of left me feeling 'less than' for not trying to petition congress, read every medical journal and basically save the world. I was only trying to save my son. It got to the point I would ask, does anyone do for just for them and their child, vs. For the good of all children diagnosed it to be diagnosed?? It's was overwhelming. I hated how I was left feeling and really separated myself from the Autism community. I think many come to this forum feeling the same way, like perfection surrounds them, like people have got it all figured out. Sometimes I see the cheating thing as people just trying to reach out and see if anyone stumbled along the way. I will gladly tell them I did, but I'll always own up to my choice. Just my two cents.

    Peroneal neuropathy

I've been getting the pins and needles feeling often in my legs. Shifting how I'm sitting helps.
  23. I haven't returned to work yet, so I haven't felt that 'how to balance it all' pull yet.... Do you have an app on your phone for the medications / Vitamins? I use an app called medisafe. Takes a few minutes to set up, and you can do it for multiple family members. You get reminders when it's time to take a med.

    ????Purée's????

yup I tried canned chicken, in fact I've had 2 cans in my cabinet for months. (Shows how much I liked it). Do it in the crock pot... It's far more flavorful!

    ????Purée's????

I don't know if it comes without potato, but it's super high in Protein, so I'll deal with a little potato for right now if the trade off is protein. I imagine I'll only be able to heat a few spoonfuls anyway. In the past I'd eat a 1/2 can, with eggs and a bagel! My NUT is not totally against carbs but I do know I need to be sensible about them too.
