  1. Banded on Feb 5th... Lost 24 pounds so far... but now I am always HUNGRY, but following the doctors plan...can't wait for my first fill on March 13th!!
  2. I had diarrhea the first 2 weeks, probably. After that, it finally went away. Gas pains and Diarrhea don't go together very well :huh2:My stomach makes some really odd noises too, now!! But I am going on 25 days after surgery, so now I am super hungry most of the time (I think it is called Band "Hell"). Hope all is ok with you...

Where are all the Michigan people at??

Hi, I'm from Twin Lake, but work in Fremont, so not far from you...I was banded Feb 5th, and am having some pretty steady HUNGER pangs right about now!! I was full too, for the longest time. I read about band "Hell" on this forum, and believe I am smack dab in the middle of it!! I get my first fill on March 13th, so am anxious to see if that helps with the hunger...10 more days of mushy baby food type foods, and then on to soft foods... This is a fun journey we are on, already I have been able to drop one size, and have a bunch of clothes to go to Goodwill, because we aren't going to ever be that size again, isnt that amazing??!! I have always saved my big clothes because I KNEW I would get back there, but now, thanks to my band, I am FREE from that worry. I know I have to work, and work hard, but oh, it will be worth it... So welcome to this forum, it was extremely helpful to me before I had the surgery and expect it will continue to be

How much weight have you lost?????

I was banded 9 days ago, and have lost 15 pounds. I am so happy. It is a thrill to get on the scale and see it Continue to go down!! I know that it will slow, or even stop, for a time, but boy, am I having fun right now!!!

    Breakfast 02-08-08- Post it please!

Your shakes sound really good!! how many peaches, how much jello powder do you use... I am going to try these!! More flavor would be great...
  6. It really depends on your insurance. All I had to do was have a BMI of over 40, show a weight history for 5 years, and be over 21. Others do have to go on diets and do a bunch of other things. I would recommend you call your insurance company and see what requirements they have, then you can go from there... Good Luck!!
  7. I'm pretty new, but from what I have learned on this forum, is that at times the weight loss may stop, but you will be compacting, losing inches, and then you will start losing weight again. Hang in there, you have done fantastic so far. I might be wrong, but I think someone said to get a fill if you haven't lost in 2 weeks or so.... Hope this helps, and don't forget how well you have done so far..it is going to take some time to get our weight off, but this time, it will STAY off!!!

    What are you eating?

I had my surgery 3 days ago. I am trying to eat about 6 times a day. I have found the Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added) is really good, and has 10 grams of protein if you use 1 cup skim milk. I have been experimenting with the different whey proteins I purchased ahead of time, but have found most of them are really bad...so instead of adding one scoop for 23 grams of protein, I add 1/4 scoop and call it good. That is not too bad and gives nearly 6 more grams of protein. I try to do 3 meals with at least 8 grams of protein, then the rest of the time, I just have a fudgesicle or popsicle.

    Dr Schram

It is now 3 days after my surgery, and I am feeling a lot better!! It is hard to get any food in me, I just don't want it, and forcing it makes me a little nauseous. But I am very very happy the surgery is over and I can start losing weight!!

    Dr Schram

I just got my approval letter from the Insurance company today, and I am soooo excited. Has anyone else had Dr. Schram? I know there was one person talking about him, but I can't find her anymore... Can anyone tell me what is going to happen now? Like, what else needs to be done after Insurance Approval, and does Dr. Schram do any fills right away, what is he going to want me to do after the surgery as far as food, etc.... As you can see, I am full of questions, but am so very, very happy that I AM APPROVED!!! What a feeling, I am scared and happy and thrilled and scared!!! Please, if you have any info, please share it with a nearly 48 year old, that is ready for a life of NORMAL!!:tt1:
  11. Ok, I don't want you to think you are the oldest!! I am 47 and also got banded on Fat Tuesday, which cracks me up-how appropriate!! How are you doing? It is 2 days out for us, I am doing ok. It is hard to drink all they want me to drink and I am having a bit of a problem with gas, but it is going to be worth it!! I have been married 28 years and have a 23 year old son. Kept putting weight on each year a bit more until I hit my high of 247. UGH. Enough of that!!!

    Dr Schram

I am going to go to Ypsilanti, actually leaving tomorrow night after work and staying at a hotel near the hospital (1 mile away, I think) because I have to be there at 6 am on Tuesday. My insurance company insists on an overnight stay, so I will be home sometime Wednesday. I am all packed and ready to go as I won't be home again until after the surgery!!! WHOOO HOOO! I am sooo ready!! This day has dragged unmercifully..hopefully tomorrow will be better (if I can concentrate on work!!)

    What to tell co-workers

I told a few people that I knew would tell other people, and so on... The lap band a tool to help, but we have to still make the right choices, and exercise and work like heck to get the full benefits of the lap band. I have my surgery on Feb 5th, so am very excited... Oh, I do know another woman at work who had the lap band surgery-she said when people ask how she lost weight, she just says she eats less, and excercises more-which is the truth!! She thinks it isn't anyones business but her own... I work in a office where 3 other women have had some type of gastric bypass-2 had RNY, one had the sleeve, now I will have the lap band!! So my office is totally used to this, and they are really supportive.

    Double V's- Whose Next?

My surgery date is February 5th. I got really lucky and the same day my approval from the insurance came through, the Barix Clinic had a cancellation. They asked me if I wanted it...you bet I did!! This talk forum has been absolutely fantastic-with support and tips and just calming any fears and answering any questions!! I have learned a lot and think I am ready for what may come... Thank You, Everyone!!

    Hello Fabulous Fourties!!!

The day after I got the approval letter, I called the Clinic to see what to do next. Cindy asked me when I wanted to have the surgery, and I replied "Yesterday!" She then said be careful what you wish for, and then said she needed to call me back. So about 1/2 hour later, she called and asked if I could come down to Ypsilanti the very next day for pre admission. Even though they were forcasting a winter snow warning, I said I would be there!! When I got there, they told me my surgery would be Feb 5th!!!!! WOW!! I am very, very lucky to be at the right place at the right time (Thank You God!!) so next Tuesday at 6 am I will be starting the rest BEST of my life!!! Thanks for all the tips and prayers, I need them, and I will continue to need them!!! Can anyone tell me what they feel to be the best Protein source that can be used right after surgery??

    Dr. Deol's Dear John Letter

I was so excited to see your post...when my insurance gets approved (AAGGHH) Dr. Schram will do my surgery in Ypsilanti, also!! I only met him the one time at consult, he seemed really nice. If you don't mind me asking, what was it like? No detail too small!! How long were you at the hospital, how did they treat you there, are you in pain, what should I expect...etc,etc..LOL I need to know it all!!

    Hello Fabulous Fourties!!!

I'll be 48 next month and hopefully have a date set for my lap band by then!! The waiting is a killer, it has been submitted to the insurance, and when I called them before, they only required a 5 yr weight history, a BMI over 40, over 21 years old (ahhh, yep), and an in-network surgeon. I am OK on all of these, so why am I so afraid they are going to spring something on me????? AAGGHH.. oh, plus next Tuesday night I have to go sleep at the hospital to see if I have sleep apnea...that is going to be fun (not). I think I might be a bit cranky tonight...sorry.

    OOH! A new forum!

I would not want to go back to my 20's for anything!! Always wanting to fit in, but not fitting in anything!! I was so self-conscious in those days, wanted everyone's approval. I am not quite as hard on myself as I was back then, things I thought mattered then just don't seem as important. I don't mind getting older, but I do mind getting Fatter!! just hope the approval comes soon for the lapband...

    OOH! A new forum!

I am waiting for approval (submitted Friday) and I am 47 years old, well..48 next month!!! I have been married to my husband for 28 years. He doesn't want me to do the surgery...afraid I will die, or that I will lose weight and dump him!! LOL silly man. We have a son that is 23, he also says it is "stupid" Apparently he doesn't think I need to be skinny because I am so old it doesn't matter!!! He'll find out in time how much it still matters!! But I have told them both very firmly that I am doing this for me, not them, so if they don't like it, they can just keep quiet, because if the insurance ok's it...it WILL happen. I have plenty of support with my sisters and friends at work. The men in my life will come around, I'm not too worried about them!! I almost feel like I am playing a game or something, it is very hard to keep in my head that this will NOT be like all the other times, that this time it will work and stay working!!! I cannot hardly fathom that I have a real chance of losing weight and Keeping It Off. I don't need to be really small, I am shooting for chubby!!! Nice to see that there are other "40's" out there....
  24. My Dr said we didn't have to give it up!! I haven't been banded yet (in insurance approval anxiety right now), but I specifically asked him at our consult because I read on this board that most people had to give it up. He said the only thing he would recommend is to make sure it is Diet because we don't want the extra calories. So I am happy I still get to drink it!!
  25. I have always weighed more than him, I was 20 lbs heavier than him when we married 28 years ago. Now I am WAY more than that!! He weighs probably 175 and is 6 ft. tall. I am a shortie (5'1") and weigh somewhere around 80 lbs more than him-UGH!! I cannot WAIT until I weigh less than him, it will only be for the 2nd time in our married life (I lost a bunch of weight on Weight Watchers, then it piled back on, plus some). I am anxiously waiting for the insurance approval... it was submitted Friday. I will not tell my husband how much I weigh until I weigh 30 lbs less than he does (I can hardly believe that might even happen)
