  1. I don't know why people's stories surprise me, I know people are a hot mess but I cannot believe some of the stuff that comes out of their mouths.

Mine isn't that bad, just something I am not used to. I have a husband and a kid that is almost 2. Now both of them know that I am not into sharing my food but we went out to eat and they were watching me like vultures. And when they knew I was slowing down they came in for the kill and raided my plate. Now pre surgery me would have been in the parking lot fighting them both but can they at least pretend that my food is mine??!

    .

YES! My husband gets offended that I don't want to share. We shared food presurgery, but for me it is like an ownership thing post surgery. Even though I can't eat it doesn't mean I want to share it! Also, I think for me it's a bit psychological. I haven't quite figured this one out for me.

I'm the exact opposite. I NEVER shared food before surgery, but now, as soon as I'm done, it's fair game for my husband. If he's not around, my extra food usually goes straight into the trash, so at least when he poaches off my plate, I know it's not going to waste.

  2. I wanted to be as prepared as possible, but I overshopped! I didn't want to eat anything more than just once or twice, so I ended up throwing a LOT away.

I wish I knew that it would take a WEEK for the gas pain to go away. Also, I didn't know that the gas pain would be worse than any other pain.

Finally, I wish I knew it would take 3-4 weeks for me to get my energy back. I was completely zonked out the first few weeks.

  3. Dr. Scott did my surgery (gastric sleeve) in June. I really like him, and I have no regrets choosing him as my surgeon. A few words of advice - appointments with Dr. Scott are very short as they usually double or triple book him, so if you have any questions, write them down ahead of time and make sure to get them in before the appointment is over. Also, appointments earlier in the day have shorter wait times (I've waited up to an hour after my appointment time for a 5 minute appointment). He's also very matter of fact, which could be off-putting to some people, but I appreciated it very much.

The nurses at MyNewSelf are really good and super nice. Your nurse will have to schedule your actual surgery, and even after insurance approval that takes time. They're also very difficult to get in touch with (which can be irritating if you're impatient like me). The care at the hospital before and after surgery was much better than I could have hoped for. I was really impressed with everyone I was in contact with - from nurses to techs and the doctors I saw there.

Overall, I would recommend Dr. Scott to anyone. Good luck!

AWESOME! I finally met Dr. Scott this past Wednesday morning and I will say that when I left the waiting room was PACKED! I will continue to make my appointments at the beginning of the day. Question for you. How long did it take you to get approved and then scheduled for surgery? How long was that process? They told me up to 6 weeks.

After I submitted, 6 weeks sounds about right. (Granted, that doesn't include the 6 months of document gathering leading up to submission). It took about 2 weeks for my insurance to approve, then surgery was about 3-4 weeks after that. I was so impatient and would have loved for it to go faster, but it all worked out fine.

  4. I was sleeved 6/9, and I'm down about 30 pounds. I'm currently in a stall, which is annoying, but I'm trying to be patient. The hardest part is keeping myself from thinking "ok, I'm done losing weight..I guess that's it". I know the stall will break eventually and I'll get back to losing weight, but part of me still doesn't believe that. I just keep reminding myself that I'm happy with my progress.

Anyway, I'm currently eating ground meats, steamed frozen veggies, and thin shaved deli meats. I cannot wait for next week when I can get back to eating raw crunchy veggies and nuts and seeds, plus chicken! I see lots of salads in my future! The past few days nothing really sounds appetizing, so I've just been focusing on getting in my Protein and liquids.

All in all, can't complain! :)

  6. I got my Protein powder samples at Nashua Nutrition online. That's also where I ordered my Vitamins. Just a heads up, they came in clear plastic bags with a label that just had the brand and flavor - no nutritional information or instructions. The instructions came on a separate sheet of paper.

So far I've liked all of them except the Isopure Zero Carb (the pre-made drinks are my fave, but I'm not a fan of the powder).

  7. What does it feel like when you eat something your stomach isn't ready for?

I'm 5 weeks out, and I'm following my plan from my surgeon. So far, everything has gone down fine. I'm feeling good restriction, and I haven't had any problems with anything I've eaten. I just want to know, as I'm introducing new foods, will I know if I eat something I'm not ready for?

  8. I was having problems with chewables - I would throw up within 5 minutes of taking them. At my 1 month appointment, I talked to the nutritionist about it, and he approved me changing to capsules that I can swallow whole (they usually don't recommend this until 6 weeks out). I still get nausea when I take the capsules, and I throw up occasionally. It's much better if I take them with food.< /p>
