    Hello Fabulous Fourties!!!

4mykidzinVale, I also just found out that I'm going to be a grandma, no one bothered to ask me if I was ready either (LOL). :rolleyes2: Funny thing is my mother was the same age and I remember her being excited when I told her but I'm still in shock. I'll be 41 in July.

    Exercise Clothes

I also highly recommend enell bra....the girls don't move!!! For me that was so important because I hated a lot of exercises because of the bounce. They can be a little pricey but well worth it. I have bought some capris at walmart and different places and they are ok, but I have trouble finding matching outfits to wear to the gym...like all those little girls wear. I do wear some regular elastic waisted shorts and wear compression shorts(from the mens dept. 'because they are longer) under them to keep my legs from rubbing. The walmart here has a very limited selection on plus sizes and even less of a selection of work out wear. Hope this helps.:wink2:

Johnny Fairplay going to be on Survivor?

I'm a huge Survivor fan...Go Yau-man:clap2:. I boycotted survivor the season that Fairplay and Rupert were on...the season before that Jenna won and I couldn't believe it:mad::mad::girl_hug::mad::mad::mad:. So I missed the best season ever, from what I hear. I'd like to see James and Yau-man team up and go to the end.:whoo:

    Hello Missouri

Hi LaLee, I'm just reading your post and I don't personally know anyone, I've heard Columbia is great. I was told that Dr Pitt was very good and only did lapband surgeries. However, Deletorre is one of the best and I plan to have him as a surgeon. Lisamarie, congrats on your surgery and weightloss.

    Hello

I think the centers of exellence has to do with mortality rate too. At my last group meeting, they told us that they had it now and that you can't get that if your patients are dying in or out of the hospital. I dont mean to sound morbid, but we went over all the complications and the reason people have them, etc...some jokingly referred to it as "the death talk". Somedays, just getting out of bed and going to work can be risky. LOL The cost that some of the people on the board were a lot lower than the UofMO. It would be interesting to know what they have to do to qualify as a centers of excellence. Might have to research that :noidea:.

    Hello

Bud, The U of Mo, Bariatric Services now has its Centers of Excellence accredidation(sp?). sfeiner is right, some insurances won't consider anything but Centers of Excellence.

    Hello

Hi Bud, You might check with the Missouri Bariatric Services at the University of Mo. -- I'm currently going there and I' m pretty sure they take medicaid. They seminar is free and there are group meetings thru out the month (at different hospitals, etc)that you can go to and meet others, also free. I think the whole staff is great. I haven't talk to a surgeon for my situation yet, but there was one at the seminar and they also have Dr. de latorre(sp?) who is partnered with Dr Scott at DePaul and they are both very experienced. check out...Missouri Bariatric Services Anyway, welcome and good luck.

Exercise to frim skin before and after Lapband

QuasiTova, Thanks for the reply on the age. I haven't been banded yet but I'm also using lotion. I figured 40+ didn't have a chance but your coworker gives me hope. I've seen others here and rny that have toned it all up and had no excess skin, but most have been under 40. I'm with you...worth a try.

Exercise to frim skin before and after Lapband

how old was your coworker? doesn't age make a difference in the elasticity of skin?
  24. Hello everyone!! I recently read a post, that someone couldn't have the lapband put in because she had too much scar tissue from a previous surgery. This got me to thinking about the huge scar I have from an emergency spleenectomy in 2000. The scar goes from bottom of breast bone to about 4" below my belly button. I did ask the dr(not the surgeon) yesterday about this happening to me and he said ...yes it could be but that it wouldn't be known until they try to do surgery. If it is a problem that I could have an open surgery instead of a laproscopic surgery. Is there anyone out there that has had their band put in and not had it laproscopically? If so, what helpful info can you give me? What problems have you had that are due to the open surgery? Have you had any band problems related to the open surgery? This is really an issue for me because I have been split open once and it was awful, but at the same time I wasn't prepared in any way, mentally, home care or any other way. Wish I had known what toilet tongs were back then, lol, ...it would have been much less humiliating for me and my dh who took such good care of me then. Any stories or advice would be greatly appreciated. I want this to happen so badly, that I will probably let them cut me wide open but the thought of it has really taken aback to the point that I'm now scared, and I wasn't before. I'm so close to making this happen, less than a month to my last appointment for my 6 month supervised visits. One of the my biggest reasons for opting for the band was it was less invasive. If I have to be split open anyway, maybe I should go ahead and do the rny...any thoughts??? Also, when insurance approves for wls, do they approve for the band, or for the rny or just for wls in general? Is this even an option on the operating table? YES...my mind is working over time on this and I'm a little depressed about it. I have to wrap my mind around the possibility of this.:help::help::help:

    to gain or not

I agree, it depends on what you can get away with. My first visit the dr checked my ankles for swelling, but the further into the appts I felt more comfortable adding ankle weights because he didn't do it after that first appt. I just came right out and asked how many times I had to be documented as 40bmi, once??, he said yes so I slowly added. I hit 40 this month and will maintain next month just to show I didn't gain any and have that 40bmi documented twice. Flared jeans or boots can hide a lot, and I weighed my shoes to get the heaviest pair.:heh:
