lmth16 got a reaction from mykdzmom in For those of you who don't know your date...
My classes end May 19th. I'm hoping to be able to do the surgery at the begin in of July. I'm a dental assistant, so my job is very hard on the body. My plan is to take a month off.

Yesterday, I took the first step on changing my life to what I would call “A Healthier Me”.
After several months of research online, reading publications, reviewing studies and listening to the audio book “The Big Book on the Gastric Sleeve” countless visits on the BariatricPal.com forum along with several visits to different bariatric seminars – I found myself closing in on my decision. What I found very helpful was the videos on You Tube by Lauren Vento – that was the turning point for me - it help me realize that “yes” having the gastric sleeve surgery is for me and although surgery sounds very scary, I can choose to think about this in a positive way. .
Took the first big step - I did it!
I had my first visit with the Surgeon today Dr. Neil Floch, and I have to admit I was pretty excited and after researching my insurance company guidelines I knew exactly what to expect. I think I was the last patient, so I felt a little rushed by the nurse, but once the doctor came in, he was really relaxed and very prepared for the list of questions I had for him, which I got from the Big Book. He ask me if I knew what procedure I wanted and why. I told him I wanted the Gastric Sleeve because it was not as evasive as the Gastric Bypass and the Duodenal Switch, and it did not have the long-term complications that can come from malabsorption and the Vitamin deficiencies. As we continued on with the conversation he ask me many questions concerning my health, my history and what led me to where I am today. I mentioned my life long journey struggles with yoyo dieting and losing the battle and failing somewhere along the way and gaining back twice as much. At 5’6”, 250 lbs, and a BMI of 40 with sleep apnea, I can only say it is time for change. I really enjoyed talking to my surgeon, he is really great and I knew when we were half way through our talk that he was the one.
This is my first post of many to come.
I am so glad I found all of you.

lmth16 got a reaction from Seahawkgirl in Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?
My insurance requires 12 weeks of classes, so I'll be done on May 19th, but I plan to hold off until either the end of June or beginning of July for surgery(that is if I still decide to do it!). Waiting for me has to do with work. July is a slower month for me.
I was very impatient until I started classes last week. Now I'm very excited to learn all of the medical info that they have to give.

Gaining during the 12 weeks of classes I have to do is one of my biggest fears. Kaiser wants us to lose 10% by the end of the 12 weeks. For me hat is 27.2 pounds. Eekkk!!

lmth16 got a reaction from KS123 in Sleeve or Lap band? Scared of choosing wrong option!
I would choose the sleeve. I have 4 friends who got the Band & all but one has had it removed. Too many complications!! Lots of time in the hospital after fills were done. 2 of the 3 that had it removed went on to then have the sleeve procedure done.
I'm sure you will make the best decision for you. Best of luck!!

Best of luck. You are in the right place. I haven't gone through Kaiser's program, but I have found the more information I have heard and the more I have learned, the more confident I have felt In my decision. Ask lots of questions and take lots of notes.
