    Infusion

TPN is total parenteral nutrition and is usually the LAST option in terms of getting someone the nutrition they need.

Anyone kept their procedure a secret?

I haven't had surgery yet but I have only told my parents thus far. I might eventually tell my sister but I don't find it necessary to tell her now. The only other person I may tell is my manager regarding time off, although if I don't say exactly what it is I know she wouldn't push it, but I know I can trust her to not tell anyone else. I'm most worried about my mom telling other family members after people start noticing after surgery. I pretty confident that most of my family wouldn't judge me and they would be happy I was getting healthy, but I prefer to keep some things to myself.

Thick saliva and sweet taste in mouth

Id call your doctors office and talk to one of the nurses. Do you/did you have diabetes? It kind of sounds like it might be a complication from that, if so.
  4. I think your best bet is to just be calm about it, no need to get worked up, its going to happen regardless... it will also make the person doing the IV more comfortable, which makes things easier as well. Try to hydrate as much as possible the day before, drink double what you normally would in water and avoid caffeine the day before as well. When you do get someone that finds a good vein remember where it is and let the person know that is where someone was able to get you before. Breathe! Dont forget to Breathe! haha. Hope this helps

    a little annoyed...

I’d call and confirm that authorization is actually for the surgery, if it came from you're PCP's office it might be just the authorization for you to have office visits with the surgeon and not for the actual surgery. I'm pretty sure the authorization for the surgery will come from your surgeon’s office.

    a little annoyed...

Id give her another chance, maybe call back tomorrow. I'm also a nurse and although I don't think it is okay to be short and unhelpful with patients, things can get a bit hectic. Good for you keeping everything in line, thats definitely the way to go about it.

    So frustrated! Not covered 100%

Did your insurance approve your surgery? If so, do you know how much your out of pocket is... thats how much you'll probably have to pay. If your insurance doesn't cover/hasn't approved your surgery you'll have to pay for it all. Can you call your insurance and ask them? Have YOU talked to your insurance yet?
