    Trouble with water

Thanks! Glad to know I'm not the only one! I haven't tried warm liquids yet, I'll try that for sure, I have tried to add mio water flavor to it and have tried ice cold, I might by some bottled water tomorrow and maybe some thickener to see if that helps.

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

I continue to feel better every day, still have bouts of nausea, I'm burping and passing gas which is definitely relieving. It's a lot harder to get in all the food and water, the full feeling almost makes me sick. Each day is getting better thought. I worked up some courage and strength today to make an Instagram page, if anyone would like to follow my name is TNB_RNY_2015!

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

I'm hoping to not take the pain medication for much longer, I do seem to be having residual pain not associated with gas, just uncomfortable... My back has also been quite sore, not sure if that's from surgery or not.

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

Surgery was Monday at 12:45. Thankfully I didn't seem to have any problem with anaesthesia, I was out within minutes of being in the operating room, they also gave me some Versed before with calmed me down. The first night and the next day were pretty rough, I had lots of nausea and needed lots of IV nausea medication, they did give me a patch before surgery but that wasn't cutting it. My doc though part of my problem might have been because of the PCA with hydromorphone, so we stopped that I went to liquid pain medication. Earlier today he said I was okay to go home. Just wish it wasn't so hard to get ahold of liquid pain medication at the outpatient pharmacies.

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

I'm up for surgery on Monday as well, and I too have started to worry a little more about the surgery aspect, and if something were to go wrong, ect. That does make me nervous, but on the other had I'm so excited and ready to get this new life started! Last weekend I had a hiccup in my pre op diet, I ended up not eating (or should I say drinking) anything for two days, we lost one of our family dogs in a rural area, and he ended getting hit by a car, luckily the people took him in and he is better now. But the stress and worry really did me in, but then on Wednesday I was starving. I made it though but it wasn't the best circumstance. Here is hoping everything else goes smoothly.
  9. Thrust usually comes about if you are immunosuppressed or have been on an antibiotic recently, do either of those apply? If so you might want to ask your surgeons office about starting a liquid or chew able probiotic.

    I HATE protein shakes

You might want too order a sample pack of Protein. I ordered a sample pack of Syntrax nectar powders, I got 12 different flavors, each package is a serving. It was a good way to try everything before committing to a tub of something I might not like (even though I liked most of the flavors). The Syntrax Nectar range has a lot of fruity flavors and most you mix with Water so you aren't getting the thick/sweet consistently. I ended up buying a tub of roadside lemonade (which I add a little squirt of strawberry/watermelon water flavor to) and double stuffed cookie and I'm going to order another sample pack to keep at home just for variety.

my post op plan calls for one shake per day, sipping throughout the day but it doesn't count as a meal. I will have 5 1-2 oz meals of full liquids throughout the day. I mostly bought my cases of premier protein for my pre op diet, but I can save them and use them in the future as well.

I think the eyesight/contacts/glasses thing is because of the pain medication, opioids cause your pupils to constrict.
  13. I might go crazy on this pre op diet.

Just think about your surgery coming. You are almost there! The pre op diet is actually the worst part. Liquid diet included. But, it means you ARE getting your surgery and that is positive. You will be ok, look to the future!

The pre-op diet was probably the hardest part about this whole thing. Just take it one day at a time and keep your eye on the main goal. You can do it!

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I did really well for the first two weeks, I was allowed 3-4 protein shakes and then one meal with high protein and non starchy veg. This only protein shakes thing is rough. I know I can do it though, only 9 more days!

    Costco vitamins

I'm biting the bullet and buying bariatric Vitamins off of amazon, atleast to start out. I was going to get them from costco but they didn't have any plain chew able ones for post op and my surgeons office advised against getting the gummies because they have calories and I guess they aren't as effective as chew able tablets (thats just what I've heard, no idea if its true). I do plan to start getting my vitamins from costco once I can get tabs/caps I can swallow... which I believe is 8 weeks out.

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

Had my last pre op appt before my surgery in two weeks! Liquid diet starts today (I have been on a low carb pre op diet for the past two weeks). I can't believe how close it is, I'm pretty sure it was just last month I was starting my 6 month supervised diet. I lost 10 lbs in the first two weeks of pre op diet as well which was exciting! Hope everyone surgeries are going well!

    Surgery scheduled!

Yay! Just got the official call to schedule my surgery, October 19th! So excited, partially nervous.

    Requirements done!

Congrats! So exciting, now the waiting game! And that psych is an ass, that is super unprofessional as well. Did you have to find your own psych or did the surgeons office recommend any? If they recommended you to him i'd tell your surgeons office about that! The place I'm going through recommended psychs, I went to the one they refer all of their patients to so he totally had a system down for the visit. My surgeons office is also apart of a city wide clinic with every different specialty so the psych I went to was part of the same clinic, so he couldn't have held back the info even if he wanted to.
  18. Unfortunately I've also read alot of the same, people being approved for removal but not for revision to sleeve or bypass. But as i also have read you can't give up, if you are denied it sounds like you have a very supportive surgeons office who will be able to help you appeal and possibly even do a peer to peer review. Stay positive though, you never know, they could call you with an approval!

    UTI after gastric bypass

The risk for UTI after surgery usually goes up because you more than likely had a catheter during surgery and there is always increased risk after that. I would too recommend the cranberry pills, not sure if there is chew-able form (assuming you aren't suppose to take tablets or capsules right now) but I would think so. Increasing your water intake should help flush it out as well. Good luck! They medication that helps with burning and discomfort is called pyridium by the way and I'm pretty sure you need a prescription for it.

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

I'm on a 4 week pre op, first two weeks are 3-4 protein shakes and 1 high protein, low carb meal. Then the next two weeks (last two before surgery) are 5-6 protein shakes per day. I also have unlimited SF jello, SF Popsicle and broth.

    Potassium

Avocado, squash, bran products, tomatoes are all high in potassium, potatoes are high as well but that's probably a no no. Maybe try an electrolyte drink, or look up a recipe and make it at home.

2 weeks out and sold food already

I'd say take it slow, which it sounds like you are... and hey, you can still eat the non solid foods, no harm there.
