Perfectly Imperfect: Ashley's VSG Story
Pre-Op Medical Clearance from PCP is getting rescheduled from today to Tuesday. It's snowing in Dallas, and people in Dallas lose their minds in this kind of weather. Not venturing out unless I have to.

Just going to use this as sort of a blog to document my journey. February 11, 2015 - First appointment with True Results for VSG February 12, 2015 - Had blood taken for Pre-Op blood work. How long does it take to know if you are approved?
I called and I was approved on the 18th!!!!! I'm so excited!!!

How long does it take to know if you are approved?
I've been worried because my company just announced they are making changes to the medical plan that take effect April 1. It would just make the surgery more expensive so hoping to get an approval soon so that I can get surgery done in March.

I'm thinking about calling again now...

Worried :(
I'm going through True Results. The patient advocate is someone who has been through this whole process themselves so they can answer all your questions. Help with insurance. They are my go to person. My patient advocate had the lap band and has lost 100lbs.

Worried :(
Patient advocate replied this morning and said she was going to forward the information on to their insurance company. Not entirely sure what that means. But I called later today and spoke with the person who had submitted everything to my insurance and let her know and she said she is going to contact her boss and for me to call back next week.

Emailing Boss before Approval
Well it's not entirely worried about people knowing once I have the surgery. But I don't want to talk about it and then end up not getting approval. My doc office is shooting for a mid March surgery, but I haven't gotten approval yet. I just wanted to give him as much time as needed for planning our next build. I went ahead and emailed him and said I may be having surgery in mid March and that I would be out for 2 weeks and that I'd let him know as soon as I had something concrete. He hadn't responded by the time I left work but I'm not really worried about it. He and his boss have both been out of the office a lot recently because their mothers are sick. Lao they are very flexible with working from home and such.

24 hour response?! Wow! They told me to call back next week so I'm attempting to not be impatient. But it's really hard!!

Emailing Boss before Approval
I'm trying to decide what I should put in my email to my bosses to explain that I will PROBABLY be having surgery next month. The reason I want to email them before I get approval is that I work in QA and they need to prepare how much work each person is going to get. I don't want them to plan for our next build thinking that I will be there for the whole time and then have to replan the build at the last minute. I don't really want to specify that I'm having WLS. So I was going to just say that I may need surgery next month and I wanted to give them a heads up, and that I would be off work for at least 2 weeks. My doc office is shooting for a mid March surgery. So just trying to give my bosses as much of a heads up as possible. Thoughts?

You can call the insurance company and check on the status. My office told me it usually takes 2 weeks but they can take up to 30-45 days.

Catheter?....
I had a catheter when I gave birth to my daughter. It was a bit weird when they took it out and the first time I peed was odd as well. But there wasn't any pain while I had it in, taking it out, or peeing afterwards. I'm glad they said you didn't need one! Hope it stays that way, but nothing to be afraid of if you do!

???? Calling all March Sleevers....let's support each other!????
Mine will be done at a surgery center as well as an outpatient. My doc office does lap and and VSG on outpatient basis.

Paperwork was submitted to insurance on the 13th. They are saying it takes 15 days to get an answer. Just hoping they get it soon because I got an email yesterday that said my company is making changes to our medical plan that affect bariatric surgery and the changes take place on April 1. It's not an exclusion. But the change could make the surgery more expensive. So hoping to get the surgery done before April 1. Fingers crossed.

Worried :(
I emailed my patient advocate right after I read the email. If I don't hear from her tomorrow morning then I am going to call the office and see if there is anyway to expedite the process. They are very optimistic that I'm going to be approved so I've been thinking about seeing if they can go ahead and set a date for me that way there isn't a possibility of surgery dates getting filled up. I was already anxious about all this before the email, and now it's worse.. Gonna be the longest 2 weeks ever.

Have no idea how this posted twice. Is there a way to delete one of them?

Worried :(
The way my doctors office is billing my procedure is with an out of network facility and in network surgeon. It ends up costing me less that way. My paperwork was sent to insurance on Friday the 13th (hope that's not a sign) and I called yesterday to confirm that had received it and they had. They said they received it yesterday the 16th and that it usually takes 15 days to render a decision. I got an email this afternoon from my insurance stating that my company has made some changes to our medical plan. One of the changes being that bariatric surgery can only take place at an in network center of excellence starting April 1. Doc office wants to schedule me for a March surgery, but I'm just worried that something is going to happen that would push me into April :-/ Sorry so long. Just venting.
