Any 'self pay' sleevers out there?

I'm in Missouri and my insurance wouldn't cover a thing. So I did some research and found that the average cost of VSG surgery was lowest in the state of Oklahoma. Then I researched doctors within that state to find a good one. I went with Dr. Broussard at WeightWise in Edmond, OK, and my cost was $10k for everything except the pre-op stuff, including one year of follow ups. I am very happy with my choice of doctor and bariatric clinic, even though it was a 7 hour drive to get there!

    February sleevers

@@tycolt1225, Sure! My soft protein list only has 5 things: scrambled eggs, soft cheese, plain Greek yogurt, refried beans, and tuna or chicken salad with only the meat and condiment (no celery, carrots, etc.).

    February sleevers

I was sleeved on Feb. 3rd. I was told to do liquids for 2 weeks post-op, and now I'm on soft proteins. I didn't have a pureed stage. I have been trying one new thing at a time and going very slowly. I was feeling extremely weak before I started my soft proteins and vitamins. I still feel that way occasionally now, but it's getting better. I'm trying to learn all the new sounds and feelings my body has now. Sometimes when I eat something, the best way I can describe how I feel is to say I feel "weird."

    Freezing!

I'm 11 days post-op. I used to be one of those people who were always too hot. But since surgery, I have been cold. All the time. And no, I don't mean cold from going outside in the winter, I mean cold inside my warm house. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Introducing new foods

My nut gave the suggestion to introduce one new food at a time so that you can judge which foods, if any, might not sit well with you.

    February 3rd Sleevers

Jazmundo, how did your appointment go? I was supposed to have my 2-week follow up with my nut today. Since I had my surgery 7 hours away, my nut was just going to call me, but she never did. I've been feeling extremely weak, but now that I just started soft foods and will start Vitamins tomorrow, I hope that feeling will subside.

    How old are/were you?

    37 and wish I'd done it 10 years ago. I'm 2 weeks post-op now.

    Freezing!

@Jazmundo... I was always the sweaty girl too, so this is definitely a welcomed change! I kind of hope it lasts. Lol! But it's also really good to know that I'm not shivering alone. I'm so glad I found this group!

    DISGUSTED WITH FOOD

@Pac-woman... I can't really comment about your symptoms regarding eating because I don't even start soft foods until tomorrow. ???? But I know exactly what you mean about seeing others eat and being amazed. I especially notice the outrageous portion size in fast food commercials. I always think "now I probably couldn't even get down more than one bite of that triple, bacon and cheese and whatever burger" though in the past, I would have super sized the combo and finished it all! I agree that being post-op makes you open your eyes and realize a lot.
  10. All doctors seem to be different as far as what is ok and what isn't. But your question is one I specifically asked my doctor. And he said no, you can't drink too much water during the liquids-only phase. He also told me that thin liquids (like water) don't really stay in your pouch for very long, so it would seem that stretching your pouch by drinking water is highly unlikely.

    February 3rd Sleevers

Hello, fellow 2/3/15 sleevers! That's the day I got sleeved too. I hope you are all doing well. I can't wait to get off the liquids only diet and start soft foods on the 17th!

    Water

I'm just over a week post-op, and I've been drinking lots of different water with electrolytes added (Smart Water, Vitamin Water, Propel, etc). That way, even if I do drink less, I'm still maximizing the benefits from what I am intaking.

    Weight loss after sleeve?

Thanks @ProjectMe. You're the first person I've seen say that they stalled right away, just after surgery. And that seems to be my issue too. I was just seeing most people posting losses within a week or so of surgery, so I panicked. ????

    Weight loss after sleeve?

Hi All. I'm new to the forum and was just sleeved February 3, 2015. I have a related question: When did you start losing/ how far out after surgery? I'm still on liquids and am really hoping my losing will pick up the pace when I can add foods in.
