  1. Thanks everyone I so appreciate your great responses. It always helps to hear what others have done or are doing. And, most importantly, it helps knowing you aren't the odd duck out that something strange is happening to!!! If you were me, would you wait and continue as is until my next Surgeons appt on the 17th of March, or would you add some Snacks to boost the Protein and calorie count? Djmohr - How far out were you when you started eating nuts??? esskay77 - Do you worry about your fat grams count? Mine seems to be high and yet I eat low fat, no fat as often as possible. I am also tracking my food using Fat Secret. I pay attention to the Protein and Calories more than anything else but the Fat has seemed high. Jess9395 - I think our brains revert back to what we used to consider 'snacks' now adays it's as you said, cheese, meat, nuts, etc. Samuelsmom - I so agree and thanks for the link to the article. It was perfect for where I'm at now. I do agree as well that the Surgeon is wonderful but the Nut or Dietitian can be much more knowledgeable on the points of food. I was surprised that Medicare won't pay for any Dietitian or Nut counseling :-( I may check to see how much it costs anyway. The help may way out weight the dollars spent.
  2. AlwaysVegas - I should clarify, my Surgeon didn't suggest any calorie count. He would like me not to count or weigh anything just take about the size of your palm for meals and stop when you are full, getting used to portion control and a sense of fullness. The calorie count is what I've read in the forums. I'm 5 1/2 weeks out and he gave me the go ahead earlier in the month to eat anything, mostly chewable foods, and of course the emphasis on Protein, no starches, little fat or fruit. And! you have done wonderfully good luck on your last 5lbs!

    Anyone else in a stall?

Well I'm really sorry you're in a stall but sure glad I'm not the only one! Tomorrow marks 5 weeks post op and I've lost 3 pounds in the last 2.5 weeks. It's so frustrating, but it sure helps that it's happening to most everyone. You do start second guessing everything and wondering if WLS isn't going to work for you, lol. So I agree with those that said stick to your plan and eventually it will come off. They've walked before us and are living proof this works so I guess we have to be patient (I'm not good at patience how about you?) and keep on keepin' on! Good luck!

    No One In The Sixties?

I turned 65 in December and was waiting for this birthday so I'd have Medicare and be able to have surgery. I had Gastric bypass on January 16th four weeks ago today. I'm down 32 pounds since my first doctor appointment December 30th. I'm happy but really surprised I haven't lost more. Seems like its really slow coming off for as little as I eat. I also had a seven day stall at week three and have just lost the last two pounds. Still have that little scary doubt in the back of my mind maybe it won't work for me. I'll be better after I see another 10-20 pounds come off.
  5. I had my surgery on 1-16, Friday, and came home on Sunday. Really I think I healed quite well and quickly. I saw my Surgeon on 2-3 for my first check up and was down 30 lbs from the first day I met him on December 30th. Yes, I was a happy camper! Luckily someone at our local support group mentioned Bariatric Pal. I've been here daily since, this is my first post. From the day of my two week checkup until today I hadn't lost a single pound. My Surgeon did ok me to move to chewable foods because I was doing so well, but I'm still only eating 3 smalls meals, no more than 3 ounces each and no Snacks, no Protein drinks. I was really freaking out about not loosing, how can you consume so little and not loose at all. That's when I started searching the forums here and found I wasn't nearly as unique as I thought I was, many here had already had and bypassed the 3 week stall. It doesn't make the frustration leave entirely but it sure helped know others walked my walk and this too would change. Today, after seven days of nothing and I'm finally down another pound, I think perhaps this will be my turning point for this stall anyway. I've had a couple of episodes with the food, both Saturday and Sunday I was sick, but I think I figured out the culprits and if any of you have had a reaction to food and had it come up instead of going down, you'll know as I do, you don't want to repeat it if at all possible. My only other problem was I was okay'd to go back to the gym, even the weights as long as I did them light and slow. We went Monday and I overdid. I walked the treadmill for 30 minutes, rested, had Water and then did a couple of the machines before the room started swimming. I had to take the elevator to the main floor with help on both sides of me so I didn't pass out. Not a good feeling at all. I guess a little goes a long ways, this was scary! The Doctor's office called yesterday to reschedule my next appt and in the course of the conversation I confessed my little bumps along my new path. She connected me to the sweetest nurse, Jessica, who says, are you on BP medicine? Have you taken your BP? Well start today and keep a record that might be part of it along with overdoing. This is such a learning process! Every day I learn something more and I love this website, love all the information I glean from all that have gone before me. I don't regret having the surgery for one moment these are just little hiccups and I'll get through them. After all this is forever so a little snag here and there is nothing!

New Study suggests 12K steps a day! Ugh

I think if you are doing 10,000 steps a day you should be patting yourself on the back. If more happen good for you, if they don't you're still amazing. Think about how many steps you were taking prior to surgery!!!!

    Like clock work....

Thank goodness someone directed me to this site at our local support meeting last Thursday. Last week I saw my surgeon for my first post op checkup. I was down 30lbs sine December 30th. Since that appt I have not lost a pound. I'm at 3 weeks. I hadn't heard or been told about the 3 week stall! Thank Heaven for all of you. I'm not happy I've stalled but much more at peace knowing others have gone through this too.
