Rhodywoman, Thanks. I'd love to hear more from you in the future. I decided to to have the surgery after I started to be come more fit. Climbing the stairs out of the subway made me winded. It got easier over time and I realized that hey, I want more of this. I also went on Lyrica and it helps so much that I was like "Hey, so this is what normal feels like" I wanted more of this too. You mention that you sleep better too. As part of my testing I had a sleep study that diagnosed me with severe sleep apnea. On one had I was surprised, but as its sinking in I realize that yes, I don't sleep well, I complain that I don't sleep enough and I am tired. Do you have sleep apnea?

Congrats. I'm glad to hear your positive experience too. Can you elaborate on how you settled into a system? I'm hoping to have surgery in March or April and love to hear about these positive experiences.
  4. Good News / Bad News - Passed the stress test / Failed the sleep study, looks like a cpap for me.

I'm just bummed at the thought of having to wear a mask. But I'm trying to look at the positive side that even if I do wear the mask for a while, that I should feel better. So onward.

  5. Thank you for the suggestion. I'm at the beginning of the pre-op. Nervous about the whole thing, but confident that this is what I need and what I want. Now I'm off to right that letter.
  6. I had my psych evaluation yesterday and passed. I also had my sleep study last night. Seems I have sleep apnea. Can someone clue me in on what that will mean to the surgeon?

Congrats! You are on your way.

  7. I've got the phych. consult today, as well as the sleep study tonight. Next week I have a stress test and the week after that I have the endoscopy. Have appointment mid March with nutritionist. Excited to get this started.

  8. I can only add, that I have fibro too. I'm now on Lyrica and its amazing the difference it makes. I'm walking almost 2 miles after about 3 months and doing a little jogging. I'm 300lbs. I've just started the process of various appoints to get approved by insurance.
  9. I will be doing my sleep test this weekend. I don't think I have sleep apena, however, I was recently told that I do have a deviated septum. This was after I complained about my left nostril being constantly clogged. Anyone have experience with a deviated septum and the sleep study. What was the outcome? Thanks,
  10. Does anyone have a deviated septum? I have one nostril that is mostly blocked. How does that affect the sleep study. I'm not concerned about the study its self.
  11. I won't miss any of it either. I am looking forward to walking to work and not worrying about being late or arriving sweaty. I am looking forward to getting a bike. Wearing biking clothes, and participating in biking events. I am looking forward to shopping for summer clothes. Going to a tailer to get them to fit me properly. I am looking forward to hiking. I am looking forward to cute boots and skinny jeans. I am looking forward to not saying no to things because its too much effort. I am looking forward to traveling more and experiencing more. and that's just for starters.
  12. I cut my diet Coke habit almost cold turkey over 2 years ago. I did it by replacing it with flavored seltzer Water. It had to be ice old from a bottle. I have since made the transition to water. Still like it to be ice cold, but the thought of drinking a diet coke is not appealing. Last summer I started limiting carbs. That's going so-so, but I'm confident that after surgery I'll be fine because I've limited myself already. Sugar is another issue, I've been working since last summer. I don't keep sweets in the house and we only bake on occasion. And I already have a very narrow pallet for sweets anyway, so that helps. I did make a chocolate sheet cake a few weeks ago and ended up throwing out 1/3 of it because I was inhaling it. I guess the next thing I need to tackle for the transition is coffee. I don't get a kick from coffee like most people do, so I'm betting that decaf will be fine. Even with all these changes I couldn't lose the weight. I just had my first appointment this week and go the list of test/consults etc. I begin making appointments on Monday. Hopefully by April I can have surgery.
  13. Had my first appointment today and got my list of testing etc. I'll start setting up appointments tomorrow. I've got a followup appointment with my primary too. One big surprise is that my insurance doesn't require me to do 6 months of supervised weight loss like I thought. So, hopefully I can get all the pre-op stuff done, by March an appointment to see surgeon. On my way.

  14. How have folks dealt with eating with family after surgery. Do you cook separate meals? Do you eat a separate times? Do you do your own grocery shopping for specific items? Its just me and my husband. While he is very supportive of my decision to move forward with surgery, I fear that our relationship after surgery surrounding food will be an issue for both of us. He loves, loves, loves to cook. He can spend an entire Sunday in the kitchen cooking. Over the years I've tried to curb his cooking, steering him to cook more healthy meals (and he has) and modifying recipes. He is pretty much on board with all of that, however I'm concerned that my new meal plans may be a hardship. How have you overcome living with someone who loves to cook with after surgery meal planning.
  15. Thanks, this is making me feel better. We both like to cook and we'er already limiting our carbs. And due to my insurance, I've got 5 months to further make adjustments now. My husband is on board so that isn't an issue, but I also know we'll have to make compromises. Funny thing is his grandparents had a regional Pasta manufacturing facility. They are no longer in the business, but as you can guess, pasta is in his DNA. But as you said, let him eat pasta and I can eat whats goes on the pasta.
  16. Thank you for all your replies. Hearing your responses about eating anything just not much is also helpful. I guess I'm trying to wrap my head around not even have the desire. I also realze that I've been heading down the "I don't care" path for a while as I don't care what we have now because what ever I eat or don't eat now isn't making a difference. I haven't been to any support groups yet. I'm very new to the idea. I've been to an information session and I have my first consultation for WLS this week. Due to insurance I won't be having surgery til June. So, I'm on my way to planning. Thanks.
  17. @@BLERDgirl I agree. I know that has been an issue. I used to have a very long commute. 3-5 hours a day round trip. I took another job to get out of that commute. I won't ever do that again. I am currently working on increasing my exercise. I have my first meeting with a surgeon Thursday.
  18. This is all help information. I have my first consultation next with a surgeon. I'm not worried about the surgery, or the recovery. My main concern is life in general after the surgery. What to expect. Will I regret it? Not be able to get with the new eating habits. I've already cut out sugars, eat low carb, drink lots of Water. Yet was unable to lose the weight. Lack of exercise was my biggest problem. But weighing nearly 300lbs and working full time left me exhausted. I just don't want to regret anything.
