  1. The appointment went well. I know she answered my questions, but I'm a little stunned and can't remember. Stunned because when I sat with the admin folks to set an appointment for surgery, they asked if I wanted to so it April 15! I said yes. So, while I wanted to do this ASAP and get it over with, I'm stunned that its next week. I've been on their modified pre op diet for a couple of weeks. They said to continue that, so I'm good there. Just shocked that it came up so quickly. But pleased too.
  2. I'm meeting with my surgeon for the first time tomorrow. I've completed all the testing, and have the insurance approval and will be meeting with my surgeon for the first time. I've got a list of the normal questions, but is there anything you wished you would have asked. Or what was your most important question you really wanted to find out about. Thanks.
  3. What is your preference, Protein drinks or Protein powders. I picked up a can of Designer whey Protein powder, but haven't used it yet as it seems unappealing. What kind of things have you made with it that work and others that don't work.
  4. @@principalmann, good luck. Let us know how it goes.
  5. This was a sample that my nutritionist gave me. http://www.unjury.com/?gclid=CjwKEAjwotmoBRCc6LWd2ZnkuBYSJACyt2qu483rkFzhk7L3pVcCQF2rPUXU-jMRwxeJwbUKEB4k_xoCCUjw_wcB

Getting sick of this liquid only phase

I just had my first unjury chicken Soup. I'm in the experimental phase pre surgery. I don't see my surgeon til April 7th. I'm curious, can you detail what your day is like. What your "meals" are like, what products you use. Anything you discovered. And what do you wish you had known. I'm getting close to entering the liquid phase. Thanks.
  8. I just had my first unjury chicken Soup. Wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
  9. I'm shocked. I was told it could take up to 15 business days for approval and it took less than a week. So, I've got an appointment for my surgeon first week of April. I'm just flat out happy. With all the pre-testing/consults done, the only thing that is wrong with me is sleep apnea. I have history of heart disease and diabetes on my mom's side. I'm hoping that with surgery I can avoid both of these. Onward!
  10. I haven't had surgery yet (hope to be scheduled early May 2015), but I have a similar concern about making meals with my husband. While he's supportive, he's also a foodie. We've discussed the changes, and he's on board. I'm still suspicious that its going to be tougher than I wish it was. But like someone said, what ever we make, I can just eat the Protein. I'm not sure I'll care about the Pasta and bread. I already order appetizers, give portions of my meal to my husband when out to eat so, that's not a biggie for me either. Frankly, I'm looking forward to just not being able to eat out of politeness, and be able to say no, I'm full. I'm going to just think for the short term after surgery. Take one day at a time, get through each phase and while researching recipes for the future.

"picky eaters" - my pet peeve

There is a difference between someone who is a picky eater and someone who is a choosey eater. First one to me is someone who whines about eating things that are good for them. The second is one who has chosen to eat things they know are good for them. Eating things that are good for you regardless of the reason (WLS, allergies, food pyriamid) doesn't make you a picky eater, it makes you a choosey eater. Picky eater = a negative term applied to children by parents and carried into adulthood. Adults who now believe that there is such a thing as being a picky eater, because they were allowed to be that way when they were kids. Choosing to eat wisely for your health is NOT the same thing. I get it cowgirijane. Why would anyone ruin their future by being a picky eater. There are way to many ways to achieve the nutrition you need, you just need to choose a way. Whining is allowed however, because eating is an emotional issue too.
  12. My insurance papers have been submitted. Now to wait. Its getting real!

  13. While its a great moment to have your child want to take you out. Another way to look at this is a teaching moment that you are taking care of yourself. Perhaps Celebrate another way like going to a museum or a walk on the beach. Our culture traditionally uses food as a way to celebrate, but perhaps now is the time to change how you celebrate the good in your life.

    Met with my PCP

That's great. I too have a very supportive PCP. I like knowing I've got someone in my corner looking out for my entire well being.

    Psychological Evaluatiom

Mine took about 30 minutes. I was asked a bunch of questions. Then I filled out a 25 question form and that was followed up with some additional questions and then he printed my letter and I was out of there. They noted that if the 25 question form did score right that I'd have to do a much longer one. I was given a list of about 20 people that could do the evaluation, but they noted one took my insurance and that was who I went to, so I paid a $30copay.

    Congratulations! That sounds great.

    ThredUp

Has anyone used Gwynnie Bee? Seems like it might be a good idea during weight loss.
  21. Good topic. I love coffee. I'm still pre-op, but am now experimenting with decaf, Protein powders and dairy. Hoping to find a good balance. Never been a tea drinker, but might have to reconsider that path.
  22. Hi, I'm hoping to have my surgery in March or April at New York Presbyterian. Stay in touch. Where are you having yours done?
  23. Almost done with all the pre-op testing/consultations. The only thing left on the list is the Nutritionist and Dietitian. Then its a meeting with the surgeon. I'm hoping to be in post-op by the end of April. Keeping my fingers crossed that nothing shows up serious that can't be dealt with.

    Insurance (NJ) horizon BCBS !

They should be able send you the exact policy information. I found the information on my insurance website and I have Empire BCBS, so i'm guessing you should be able to find it too. I just but in Bariatric in the search engine. I wouldn't rely on a phone call. If you know where you want to do the surgery, they have insurance folks who can help clarify too.
  25. The sleep test was something I dreaded too. I had to do mine at the sleep center. It was a very awkward and restless experience. They called me two days later stating that I had severe sleep apnea. I was so bummed. I really thought I couldn't possibly have it. But after a few days of the information settling in, I'm glad I did this. I realize that I've complained about my lack of sleep for a long time. I'm looking forward to getting on with my life and if the cpap is part of it so be it. At least I'll feel better. Besides, I'm hoping that after WLS that like some folks they come off the cpap altogether. Good luck with your test.
