  1. I swear I am the plateau queen. I lose 10lbs and then I am stuck, then I start losing again and I am stuck. It is very frustrating.

As you can tell, I am stuck again. I know exactly what my issue is but I don't know what I can do about it right now. I am restricted from exercise due to a surgery I had on my spine in June. The worst part is I have significant pain in my back and don't see this restriction changing anytime soon.

I guess the good news is, I have not gained any weight and continue to lose very very slowly with a plateau every 10lbs. I am 25 lbs from my goal.

I am telling you exercise and lower carbs is the answer! If you can get yourself moving it can really help.

I do eat a lot of saltine crackers and juice. They're out now!

At the stage you are currently in for meal volume, you have the option to consume a larger portion of Protein through your meals (that is if you are consuming high Protein meals). This allows you to reduce your reliance on protein supplements (protein shakes, protein bars) and the calories that these protein supplements contain.

I experienced a plateau at around 3 months post-op. I looked at my calorie consumption and decided my plateau was due to increased calorie consumption, so I dropped from 3 Protein Shakes a day down to 2 and my weight loss picked up again. As time went on and my meal volume increased, I was able to further reduce my protein shakes down to 1 per day and then none. Because at that point I was consuming all the protein that I needed from my meals.

Great info! I didn't think of that!

  2. So you lost 70# in one month? Or was most of that pre op?

No I've lost 70 in 3 months after surgery. But I had a serious complication after surgery and couldn't really eat anything for almost a month.

I too had my surgery 4/8/15, and have lost a total of 69 lbs, but it seems like there are a lot of stalls along the way. So we're about the same. I know what usually works for me is if I reset and do a liquid diet for a couple of days without grazing or snacking and it usually get the scale back to moving. Hope this helps.

It does help! Thank you, I'm going to try that.

  3. I chose RNY because I have almost 200 lbs to lose and I need negative consequences for eating things I shouldn't. My surgery is 4/8 (9 days!). And things did move quickly for me. Once all the tests are complete and you are cleared by all the peeps your insurance has 3-5 days to process your request. State and federal mandate. I work for a big insurance company so I know first hand. Good luck! It will move slowly but also quickly. And go with your gut (pun intended) about which surgery. You know you best. Keep us updated!!!

  4. I'm having bypass April 1st with Dr Varnell. I chose the RNY because I need to lose 200 lbs and I wanted a procedure with negative consequences for eating the bad stuff (diarrhea, nausea,etc.). Follow your gut (no pun intended). Ask lots of questions. I will be at the March mtg as well. I'll be the short, round redhead/brunette with glasses. See you there!

  5. My surgery is at the end of March this year, but I am worried about losing my hair and the excess skin. I have 200 pounds to lose and have no idea what to expect from my body. Sure, I've read the posts and have an idea what happens in general - but our bodies are so different between each of us, it's hard to know what will happen to whom.

Thank you for this post - I find it helpful and look forward to reading the responses.

  6. I too am going through Bailey in Owasso. Surgery date isn't set yet but should be near the end of March. I see the surgeon next week to set the date. I plan to attend the Bailey Owasso support group every 2nd Monday of the month (been to the Bville one but it's a long drive from Owasso, where I live). I love it! Perhaps we could form another support group. There can never be too much support.
