@@Fatdiva14 I feel the same way about the Protein drinks. I'm forcing myself to have them. I'm basically sticking to the liquids cause I'm not enjoying the cottage cheese, I hated the oatmeal and I can't be bothered w/the pudding. :-( Definitely a downer. I'm in Boston and we're getting another 20+ inches of snow....I haven't left the house since I got home from the hospital!! I'm going crazy and Wednesday I have my post op appointments. My issue is I don't know where to go for them. There are 2 hospitals and I left a message, but haven't heard back. I doubt the girl will be in tomorrow as there is no public transportation running! Of course my first appointment is at 8am, so no one will be in to verify where my appointment is. I just want to get out of this darn house!! I started taking my Vitamins and my Calcium ones are large so I only have to take them twice a day. The hospital gave me a pill splitter so that helps and I love Flintstones so those aren't an issue for me. Tomorrow I'm going to try and use the snow blower. It's a small one and I'm hoping it will tackle some of this snow. I know shoveling will hurt, but I'm going to give the snow blower a try just to do something! I have to be able to get out on Wednesday!! I've got mad cabin fever! -

@@Jewelgirl04 I'm doing much better on my Protein intake than the liquid, too. I've been having some hunger pains so I know I need the protein which helps. I started some food today - cottage cheese, banana and pudding. I unfortunately hated the oatmeal so that is out. I'm a very picky eater so that makes things difficult and limits my choices. Only one week of this, then I add a lot more - like chicken! - which will be for 3 weeks. Oh, and I can have eggs, too!! Thank stinks that you had an allergice reaction to the Flintstones....I've been taking them for years and now that I'm taking the Vitamins, today was the first day to start, I'm super excited. To me they taste a little like candy. Good Luck! -
How Long Will It Take
kathy0529 replied to Possum87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The major thing as people have said is insurance requirements. Some make you wait and go to a lot of meetings and it usually takes around 6 months. I didn't have any insurance requirements. I first went in early October for the Information Session, then I called and set up my appointments w/the Doctor and Nutritionist. My appointments were in November & December, then my surgery was on January 21st. My doc signed me out of work until February 23rd, so I'll be out of work just under 5 weeks. Hopefully you don't have to wait 6 months and can get your surgery done sooner for you. Good Luck!!! -

@@Fatdiva14 I don't get all they want me to have and I feel like I am drinking 24/7...stinks! I can take large sips, but I thought this surgery wouldn't allow me to. God, I hope I'm not stretching this out! That would be my luck...go thru all this torture only to stretch it out so quickly. I'd be so bummed. We're supposed to receive another 12-15 inches of snow, on top of the 44 inches that we rec'd w/in a weeks time so I have to call and reschedule my appointments for Monday. These were my first post op appointments since the surgery. One major issue that I've been having, but seems to be getting better, is that when I take a shower, both my sides were killing me to the point where I had to sit down asap. Have you had any issue like this? It seemed to be better this morning, but I was wondering if this was happening to anyone else. -

@@Fatdiva14 OMG I feel the same way!!! The commercials are KILLING ME! I would die if they wanted 80-100 g of Protein...mine wants at least 60 g, but I've been getting around 44 g a day. Today, though, the hunger is getting to me so I'm going to hit 66g. The other liquids, they want 64 oz and I'm lucky if I hit 35. I drink Water and G2. I'm just dying to chew something!!! I'm really going crazy and just want to get out of the darn house, but the snow is keeping me inside! I just want pizza...every commercial is PIZZA....omg!!! I feel my addiction is getting worse since I can't eat anything. Having a very emotional day today. Just spilled my Protein Drink and cried. :-( -

@@Jewelgirl04 That's great!! Congrats! I'm tired every day and going stir crazy since I've been snowed in!! I have my post op appointment on Monday, along w/my nutrition group, but I'm not sure I'll make it since we're expecting more snow!! UGH. I haven't reached my full amount of liquids or Proteins yet. I feel like I'm drinking 24/7. On Saturday I can finally have some cottage cheese, oatmeal and banana (there's more on the list, but this is all I like). I have to say that I am hungry which bothers me cause I hope that doesn't mean all of this didn't work. Oh and I have to say that all the commercials and shows before the Super Bowl (Yeah Patriots!!) didn't help! OMG, I can't believe all the ads for food!! I'm trying to keep my mind off of it, but my hunger is starting to make me obsess which, again, doesn't make me happy. Oh well, just going to try and get thru this hurdle. Glad you are doing well!! -

Hey Everyone...just checking in to see how everyone is doing? I'm hanging in and am very tired. I do have a lot of discomfort and am not doing too great w/sleeping since I'm not a back sleeper. I'm so jealous @@Jewelgirl04 that you slept thru the night!! I was able to sleep a little on my side w/a blanket under my stomach that got me a couple of extra hours. I pretty much get up @ 5:30am and doze in the recliner. I've been telling people what I've done and they're all very supportive and happy for me which is nice. Getting all the fluids in is difficult, but I'm doing my best. :-) I hope everyone's success continues!!! -

@@Fatdiva14 me, too! Surgery ended up being 2 hours later than scheduled which was a bummer. Had a breakdown when they said we were ready. I am completely exhausted and the nausea has been my biggest problem. I have to say that the nurses at my hospital are amazing! Sorry for the tmi, but when I'm upright, I get nauseous and then I dry heave, but it's cause of the gas and then I burp and its a little better. No vomiting. I'm sipping Water and am getting ready to do a 2nd walk. I have to drink 2 8 ounce Protein Drinks in order to get discharged so I plan on starting at 5 or 6 am so I can get out. Hope you are doing well. -

kathy0529 replied to boosh10's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@boosh10 I wish mine was earlier, too. They never said to do anything different the day before so I did my typical pre op diet day - 4 Protein drinks (3 done so far), 2 fruits, 64 ounces of Water (32 down, 32 to go) and 4 ounces of lean protein. I'm a very picky eater and can't eat any more vegetables since I don't like that many, it's been hard to have the same thing over and over again, so I skipped veggies tonight. I will have a sugar free snack that's allowed in my pre op diet plan. The hospital said no food, but I could have clear fluids up till 3 hours before Surgery, but my doc's instructions say nothing after midnight. I'm going to try and go with out anything, but if I feel the need, then I'll have some water. -

@@Jewelgirl04 I have the same concerns as you, plus the Hospital stay. My Doctor has his patients stay 2 nights. I wish it were only 1 since I've never been in the hospital, but I'd rather do as he says. Good for you doing this while you're in school! I expected 3 weeks off from the Doctor and was pleasantly surprised to get the extra week and since it's approved at work, it's one less thing to worry about it. -

@@Jewelgirl04 & @@Fatdiva14 - the countdown begins!!! I have 1 more day of work, then a day of taking care of things, then SURGERY. I'll be out of work from January 21st to February 23rd and everything is already approved on that end. I think the worst part is the not knowing. I hope I'm like the people who have had minimal pain, but I just don't know and that is what drives me crazy!!! Best of luck ladies! -

I love these boards because whenever I have a question/issue, I come here and see that others are going thru the same thing. I'm scheduled for surgery this Wednesday and today I feel like I'm getting my period. My periods are irregular and that's usually due to my weight. When I gain, they go away, when I lose, they come back. I'm on day 11 of the pre op diet and am down 10 lbs and am now worried that I am getting my period BEFORE surgery. I've never had surgery before and was wondering if they'll still do it if I currently have my "friend"?? Sometimes I get the feeling and it doesn't come, but I just wasn't sure what would happen w/the surgery. Thanks everyone!

@@Fatdiva14 That's great that you will be home quickly. I don't have a time yet. It seems that everyone scheduled for surgery on Wednesday calls in the day before between 1pm - 3pm to get their scheduled time. I'm hoping for very early - 8am - or early afternoon or I'll have to deal w/rush hour to get there. How early do you have to arrive to the Hospital? I think mine is about 2 hours. -

@@Fatdiva14 Lucky you! I hope you can get released on the Thursday. I've never been in the hospital so I'm very nervous about it. I'm glad that this hospital has private rooms, though. That helps w/some of the nerves. With any trip, I always overpack, so I'm sure that will be the case here. I've been reading peoples suggestions, too, and have Gas X on my list as well as Chapstick, which many people recommended. I'm not sure what else - what are you bringing? A friend of mine had this surgery at the same hospital as me 2 years ago and she said that they give the socks to wear so I don't have to worry about slippers, but I'm going to bring my own nightgown just in case. She said I didn't really need pj's, but I'll bring it just in case. I did receive that antibacterial soap to wash with Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday at the appointment yesterday. I have to take my polish off my nails and have at least 1 nail on each hand w/out any acryllic - wah! My paperwork said no polish on toes either which stinks, too. Oh well, an excuse for a nice pedi after I'm recovered. I've been a bit emotional about the surgery. Right now I miss food and wish I could have 1 more meal before the procedure, but I want everything to go smoothly and I am not going to risk anything! I think it's the pre op diet that is getting to me. I'm a very picky eater so my options are limited and right now I'm sick of the food I'm eating. I was very happy that I can tolerate the chocolate Premier Protein shakes and pray that my taste for it won't change after the surgery. I'm focusing on the prize - smaller clothes!! Counting down the days. -

@@Fatdiva14 That's awesome!! Good for you. What did your pre op appointment entail? Mine was just checking my vitals, listening to my chest and lungs, then having some blood drawn. Wasn't bad at all. My heart was racing a bit, but it calmed down after a bit....I blame nerves! Good for you for watching the videos....I get weak in the knees when anyone discusses medical stuff around me, so some of the meetings were such fun! How long will you be in the hospital? My Dr. plans for a 2 night stay. The Insurance approved 1 night, but the Hospital will handle the 2nd night and getting that approved. I would love to go home the next day, but I'd rather be safe than sorry!! 1 WEEK AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

@@Fatdiva14 at my last nutrition appointment I was up 5 lbs from all of my other appointment weigh ins. It was right after New Years and I fully expected surgery in February, but my doctor will be on vacation so rather than delay it, I scheduled it for the 21st of this month. I knew I'd be up because I completely enjoyed the Holidays and knew I would. I'm interested to see what their scale shows tomorrow since it's always a bit higher than mine. Fingers crossed for you!!!
