    Whew *warning TMI*

I had one incident of the thought I had gas and oh sh** that wasnt gas! It thankfully was in the hospital and i quickly learned why. I had downed some beef broth so fast and about 3 servings and remember our stomach isnt what it used to be. that was the only time and the last time it will happen to me. I learned and now I sip and I slowed down BIG TIME, as that was an experience to dont care to return to. just slow down and you will be fine. I do go to the bathroom just to be on the safe side. good luck ps. another tip, I drink just a shot glass worth of shake, Soup or whatever and then wait a few min before taking my next one and so on, I found this practice to be HIGHLY effective

    "Breakfast" this morning--Yum???

good morning jim! I had a buddy in the hospital whose name was Jim and I was also banded on 01/07/08. I am just a couple of days post op and I feel great!! I too just had a tasty cream of chicken soup for breakfast and some water and now I am full too. I love the feeling of not being hungry. I would have liked to have some fresh fruit with my breakfast, but those days will come. take care and glad to hear you are doing well.

Biggest Fear? Death & Other Questions

I was banded on january 7, 2008 and I am liek you not any health issues.....yet. I have prediabetes and back and knee pain. I am 5'8 and weighed 256 at surgery. I had no problems with insurance because I believe they feel it is cheaper to pay for this now then for my care when I do become a diabetic or worse. I feel incredible and not hungry at all. other than some mild discomfort at the port site, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I was home on tuesday and can go back to work now if I needed to. i am going ot take a couple of more days to fully recover and heal properly. but do your research and you will see it is safe and effective wls. good luck

    Help with Post-Op Diet

that is exactly what you do, you sip, sip, and sip water all day long. I am 3 days post op and have drank more water than the protein shakes because I talked to the nurse today and she said the water was more important. I have struggled to get all 3 shakes in, but every day is better. Just remember to continue sipping as hydration us of the utmost importance..........good luck!

    OWW The Gas!!

Hi there, I also had surgery on the 7th and have felt NO gas pains, I almost thought they didnt use any as I have had other surgeries in the past and know about the unbearable pain. My experience has been that you just have to ride it out and it does eventually go away....sorry to hear you are in pain. I hope it goes away soon. other than that, how do you feel? I feel fantastic!! I am walking my son to school and eating jello and having a hard time doing 3 shakes a day plus the water, so I opted for the water intake, how about you?

    Getting Banded Next Week

Hi Y'all, it is TOTALLY normal to have all of those thoughts racing thru your head and even second guess yourself as to whether you are doing the right thing or not, but take it from me, I am 2 days post op and other than a little soreness at the port site, i feel incredible! not hungry at all! you have to really be careful as it is best to take just a shot class at a time of ANY liquid, it works for me and I learned the hard way, on my first day post op, I drank too much too fast and had to run and I mean run to the bathroom, dont do that!!! take a shot glass at time and you will feel wonderful. I cant wait to see my surgeon in a weeek, I have been following directions to a t and let me tell you it is worth it, dont think you know more than they do, do it, follow the directions and you will be successful and more importantluy you will feel FANTASTIC! dont be afraid of the unknown, afterwards you will see you had nothing to worry about, they are professionals and perform surgeries every single day, it is very routine to them, dont worry and good luck! your fellow bandster and hot mama in the making!!!!!

    Argh. Preop day 1

my doc made me buy these shakes from his office and let me buy only one week at a time. he told me not to gain any weight and why it was important for me to lose during this time......I have spoken to their office 2x and they have yet to ask me how I am doing. I have only done it for one day and today I went out ot dinner with my family...I will do the last two days of pure liquids as my surgery is on monday. I think it varies from doc to doc, but I cant see him cancelling the surgery because I didnt do the preop diet...I figure I have plently of days of shakes ahead of me....,and ppl pls dont question my commitment...you all know EXACTLY what I am feeling

Not a good conversation with hubby last night.....

last year, I was scheduled to be banded and the day I went to preregister he tells me he is not on board, yada yada yada...I was so upset that I cancelled the surgery. I was scheduled for 11/06 Fastforward to 2007, I am not only heavier, but more uncomfortable and prediabetic... I went thru the process again and now I am approved and having surgery in 8 days. I needed him go go with me to the support group and he refused, I called my sister and she went with me...but I came home and read him the riot act. After 24 hours of the silent treatment, he relented, apologized and now is taking the day off on my surgery date and is going with me to my preop class on thursday. Trust me, your DH will come around ( i find the silent treatment to be very effective for me!) you are doing this for YOU....just remember that, you deserve good healthe and to feel good about YOU. take care and happy new year......good luck too!

Looking for good insurance in CA

Hi, i live in Orange County and we have blue cross HMO--I went to my first meeting 11/14 and my surgery is on 01/07/08---my BMI is 38. BC of California HMO is paying for all of it, i paid $137.50 and that is all....best deal in town! Last year we had BLue cross PPo and they were gonna pay for it but our out of pocket cost was going to be $8K...not such a good deal for us...check it out...and good luck. I have 8 more days before I join the BAND wagon... :clap2:

Maybe I should just stay fat!!!

Hi, I agree with the others--dont stay fat, there are so many risk factors involved in that--perhaps not now because youth may be on your side--that will not always be the case and those risk factors will definitely be in your future if you dont do something about it NOW! neither procedure is a magic answer--simply a tool--you MUST change your lifestyle if you want to be successful. start with a 10 minute walk, then do 20 min, then 30 you will be surprised how much better you will feel. dont sell yourself short, you are worth it and your teenager needs you around.....whatever decision you make will be the best one for YOU I am sure. Take care and good luck. I am having lap band in less than 2 weeks, i am currently on the liquid diet, as my hubby is scarfing down freshly steamed tamales......but I know what those taste like and nothing tastes as good as feeling good about me!!!

Unsure if I should do it

OMG! Jazzy woman you hit that one out of the park!!! that is exactly true for me too, I too have wondered, do i really need to do it? and you are exactly right, if I could do it alone I would have already done it. I too have made too many resolutions to even remember them, then recommitted later in the year and have never been successful! I have had many successes in my life, family, business, etc, but never ever have I been able to conquer this monster! I want to be healthy and feel good about myself. I know that my second thoughts are coming from losing my always faithful lover........FOOD! About not being able to turn to it when I am lonely, scared, tired, bored, etc. I was scheduled to do this last year and my father became ill and so I didnt do it, fast forward to 2007 and now i am heavier. I let others convince me i could do it myself and so I tried AGAIN and failed miserable, for me I believe it is the best decision and for that I am willing to change my lifestyle. I do have to do the preop diet and I was supposed to start yesterday. I can wait, this will be the year I finally do take off the weight, my new motto is.......LOSE THE W8 IN 2008!!!

All of a sudden "I'm Scared!"

well put lachica39! that is soooo true. I am also scared, but am so ready to end my love affair with food....it is so darn unhealthy! I have sufferred the effects of it for the last twenty years and although I now kinow the end is near it is hard to accept that you are truly addicted to food much like an addict is addicted to drugs! I want to break those chains.........I can't wait to be free!!! Good luck ladies, we are all scared, but soon we will on our new journey and onto creating a new relationship with food....eating to live instead of living to eat!
  22. destined2befree

All of a sudden "I'm Scared!"

your feelings are totally natural, however, I would definitely reconsider the surgery if you are not ready to make "the change". Remember all the reasons why you wanted the change, and that is exactly what you wanted...the change of health, change of weight, change of confidence in yourself, etc. You are right, it is a BIG decision and you need to be sure you are ready, willing and able to make that change or you will not be successful.
