    Vitamin B1 deficiency

Yeah you want to make sure you are up with the B1 just as much as the B12. My surgeon failed to mention the importance of B1, until I had blood work back showing how low my levels were.

    Vitamin B1 deficiency

I take a B complex along with B12. I had early on a sever B Vitamin deficiency which put my ass in the hospital twice in the early months post surgery. I was put on prescription strength Thiamine (B1) which helped me greatly to regain some of my senses back. Since then I make sure to take an folic acid vitamin pill that contains Thamine in it. My B complex also contains Thamine in it as well and I haven't had issues since. Main issue with low B vitamin especially B1 is memory. More importantly short term memory stuff.

    Protein Shakes

You're going to go to a protein first sort of diet. You won't even be worrying about carbs for a good 9 to 12 months post surgery. I think for women you need to be getting around 70 to 75g of protein in per day after the surgery. Although I am sure someone else a bit more knowledgeable in what women need post surgery will chime in here and give better advice. Either way good luck to you.

    Fried Foods

Only you will know how it affects you once you try it. Some can tolerate it others can not. The past year has been ups and downs with me trying different foods to see how my body digest them post surgery. Fried foods isn't on the daily menu anymore, but its not 100% off either. I may do fried items (chicken/fries) maybe once or twice every other month. Sometimes its okay and my stomach processes it just fine. Other times ( and this was early on), my body barf that shit up like it with the plague. I think the farther out you wait to try certain types of food, the better your body maybe able to process things. Good luck to you.

So it turns out my wife is gay...

Hey I will admit I kinda jumped the gun a bit on this because I have been down this road before. As I said before and will say again, you will get past this. Just give yourself some time. And yes I do need to read the other 14+ pages of this to see what was all said and offered to you as far as advice. Good luck to you! @@BigTink2LilTink, thank you. I appreciate your support, but please also read this entry and the entirety of the thread before offering advice. Not upset, just an honest expression of my needs.

So it turns out my wife is gay...

You have my sympathies as you go through this difficult time in your life. I too was once married to my college sweetheart. We were married for 10 years before she revealed to me at the time that she was homosexual and wanted to end our marriage. Fast forward about 5 years since then, she's now come out as transgendered and although we stay in contact with one another, and I still have love for this person (that won't ever change I believe), I did learn to move on and live my life knowing that she would no longer be a part of it in that capacity. I say that to you that in the case you both decide that the marriage can no longer work, that you too will survive this. I too reached out to Straight Spouse Network in the early years of going through my divorce. I wanted to find answers as to why this happened to me. It was comforting to know that I wasn't the only person in the world going through this sort of relationship/marriage ending. Try to understand that what's going on is not your fault. You didn't make your wife that way. It is what it is, who she is. She's dealing with things now that honestly, you knew nothing about. You have to try and pick your pieces back up. I would suggest the following: 1. Get counseling for yourself (separate for any marriage counseling you two were involved in). You are going to need some help coming to terms with a lot of things. The biggest one is that your marriage is eventually going to come to some sort of ending. 2. Give yourself time. You are gonna need some time to heal from this. You will indeed go through the grieving phase, because you are grieving. You are losing someone in your life that you didn't want to lose. 3. Understand that her discovering or accepting her sexual preference had/has nothing to do with you. You didn't cause this. You didn't make her that way. That one was the biggest hurdle I myself had to overcome. It took me almost 2 years to come to terms with the fact that my ex wife was gay and that had nothing to do with me, and that I didn't cause that to happen. If you ever need anyone to just reach out to and vent I am here. You can private message me if you want. But understand that you are not alone in going through this. That you will survive this. And that you will be happy and whole again.

    No Sex? WTF

Wow. First off sorry you are going though this. I was going to mention having him get tested for low testosterone, but he's already doing that. Have you just thought about talking to him and letting him know that you are more interested in have more frequent sexual interactions? Sometime the simple direct way is the better way of handling things.
  8. It was alright. 11 months out. I am sorry I did eat a tiny tiny bit of bread but, man oh man I was like a small spoon full of this, a tiny spoonful of that.

Guys, what do you consider your ideal pants size ?

Right now at 11 months post surgery I went from being a 56/58 to now I'm in a 40/42. Ideal size for me would be about a 34/36. So I'm really really close to reaching that goal.

Guy's Room - Calorie target 9 months out?

The nutritionist at my surgeon's office. They still want me on a Protein first sort of diet where I am still consuming more protein than anything else. I see my surgeon in about 3/4 weeks from now. I would like to be at or as close to 263lbs as humanly and safely as possible. Doubt I'll get there being at where I am, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Guy's Room - Calorie target 9 months out?

Wow 12-1300 a day seems low. I have MFP setup at 2100 per day and for the last few months I've averaged around 1700 -2100 per day. I am currently in a slight stall if you will but its only been about 10 days or so. During this time I have started to take better account of Fluid intake. I think one of the reasons I might have started to stall was that I wasn't drinking nearly enough fluids as I should be during the day. So this week I have been make sure to take down 17oz of fluid per 2 hours while at work, which should be around 68/69oz of fluids during the day. I still walk daily at around 3.5/4.5 miles by the end of the day, and I've been doing some weight lifting for about a good 2 months now. Roughly 3 times a week.

Do all Doctors require two week liquid preop diet?

I had to do a two week clear liquid diet before my surgery. How it was explained to me was that they wanted to shrink down the size of my liver to avoid any complications. That was one of the hardest things I had to do. The first week was hell, after that I was good.

    Coffee?

Wow I swear I wish these guys (doctors) would all come to a very uniformed guideline for what the patients should follow post surgery and for how long. My surgeon and nutritionist had no issue with me drinking coffee. Hell I was given coffee right after surgery. The only thing was that it had to be black and no sugar and creamer additives for the first 30 days. I'm at month 11 post surgery and I drink coffee about 2 to 3 times a week. Granted I was never really an every day drinker of coffee, I tend to find myself drinking it more during the winter months than I do during the spring or summer.

    I hate protein shakes

I would totally suggest getting away from the "flavored" Protein powders and going to the unflavored ones instead. The two that I know of are Isopure Unflavored and unjury. I have only used the Isopure and can tell you that mixing it in with either Soups or orange/apple juice helped me in the earlier stages to meet protein goals for the day. I still use the Isopure mix, just not as often as before. Mostly as a post workout mix 30 minutes after working out and then 30 minutes before a meal (usually dinner since I do my weight resistance workouts after work). If you are a fan of Peanut Butter you can use a PB2 powered peanut butter mix to help add some flavoring to the flavored Protein shakes as well as get some additional protein. The PB2 mix has like and additional 5g of protein per serving at only 45 calories. I was doing this with ISO chocolate protein mix to get like a Reese's sort of shake. That helped early on too in not only was the shake pretty good, but it helped to carb my peanut butter cup cravings I was going through early on.

    Two Year Post Opp Upda

I am literally a week away from my 1 year surgery date and I can say that your post really helped to put things in perspective for me. Thank you for share both your 1st and 2nd year post surgery outlooks. I can't wait to see where I am at a full 24 months out from surgery.

    Sex... Oh My God... Sex!

I'm slowly getting back into a somewhat normal for me sex routine. I have had sex twice within the last 6 days which isn't bad, but I would honestly like to have had it 6 times within the last 6 days. But yeah what I have learned is that my stamina has indeed returned to pre-surgery form. Before the surgery, sex was the only physical activity I could do for very long periods of time and be happy about it. Now I can easily do about 35 to 40 minutes of intense cardio and feel good. Would rather be having sex, but hey a work out is a work out.
  17. Can cause bloating, which was what my doctor told me. It took a while to get use to the whole no drinking and no drinking with straws but Its one of those few things that kinda stuck from day one with me.
  18. BigTink2LilTink

    Protein

All of this. And trust me you don't wan to end up sick and back in the hospital at all. Its gonna make your progress that much slower to achieve.

What multi vitamin do you take?

I do men's one a day and I'm alright with just that as for Vitamins. Iron I take bariatric iron chewables from twin labs. Not the best tasting thing in the world, but low blood iron is an issue I have yet to suffer from post surgery.
  20. Yes I had to wake 8 weeks before I was cleared to do any resistance training (lifting weights/swimming). I was told to do walking about 60 to 90 minutes per day right after surgery, and then full on cardio (running/bike riding, elliptical training) about 30 days post surgery. But as someone else has said, get clarification on what it is you want to do with your doctor first to make sure he/she is on board with what it is that you are wanting to do.
  21. Guy I so feel you on this. I have been on edge for months now. And yes I have been working out like there is no tomorrow and I still can't seem to get out enough of the frustration and anger to just be alright. Right before my surgery I had a nasty breakup with my Ex, that honestly still pissing me off. I started a new relationship with another woman right after that breakup and I feel like that was just as big of a mistake as the last relationship I got out of. Add to that the lack of sex, stress at home, and redoing my entire relationship with food. Its amazing I haven't killed anyone yet. But then I look in the mirror, I see the changes. I see the smaller frame. I have all this ton of energy, that granted I would enjoy a hell of a lot more burning while having sex, over just burning it during exercise, but I am physically at a place in my life that I haven't been at since I was 17 years old. I know that with time my exterior life situations will change. But for now keeping my calm composure, and channeling my anger/rage into something more productive, will indeed pay off in the long run.

    Current Non-scale Win

Went to a Halloween costume party this weekend. Was able to buy and adult costume out of the store and it actually fit. Its the smallest things that seem to count a lot.

    Constipation !

I was on fiber (metimucil) for a while, but haven't had to take any additional fiber in about the past 90 days or so. I still take a probiotic to help regulate my digestive trace and that is honestly probably what is keeping me from needing the fiber.

Can't seem to find that user name on youtube.

    Steak?

Yup in about 6 months. And trust me when I say wait the full six months. I was trying to eat beef 6/7 weeks post-op and got super sick and in the hospital. Give your body the time it needs to heal fully before putting your stomach under that amount of stress. Also, cause I know at least one person in here has already said it, follow whatever plan your doctor and nutritionist has planned out for you. They are your experts and if they are telling you not to try and eat something now, then its for good reasons. Don't let your cravings win over this, cause trust me the consequences are so not work it.
