TLBolin got a reaction from SouthernBelle69 in Pre opt diet
OMG, Optifast for two weeks and broth, Jello, and coffee. I'm going to die before my surgery. I start the classes tonight for six weeks, my follow up mental health appointment is already scheduled for the last week of my classes and they are thinking I should have a surgery date set within two-three weeks after my last class. So this pre-op diet is the liver cleanse, right? Is it just for two weeks? I read someone else on this site lost 50lbs. during the pre op diet. Heck, if I can stick to the pre op diet and drop 50lbs who needs to spend the money for surgery. LOL
Anyway, I am really worried about the pre op diet because liquid diets are really hard and I have no will power; hence I need surgery.
Any suggestions on how to survive?

I try not to take too much offense at folks who make these kinds of flippant remarks. What I think a lot of them don't realize are the very real physiological reasons why many of us aren't/weren't successful with traditional diet & exercise means as a way to lose weight. Unless we're very open about ourselves, (which I'm not) it's probably not public knowledge if you suffer from diabetes, sleep apnea, food addictions, or any number of other things that stand in the way of losing weight through diet and exercise alone. That's not anyone's fault. What is important is that we realized we needed help, we realized that bariatric surgery could be a tool that can help us reach our goal along with the diet & exercise. Easy way out? Please. This is the hardest thing I've ever done.

My surgery was 12 /10 and there has been no feelings of hunger. I have to schedule my two meals each day.

My stomach has never growled since my surgery. I am NEVER hungry!!!, I can tell when I need to eat because I get shakey, but no hunger pains, ever.

Ask your doctor first but you might consider pro biotics. Yogurt has the right bacteria AND Protein. I haven't had my surgery yet, I'm reading post surgeries issues to learn, so please ask your doctor or correct me if I'm totally wrong.
I've had to take pro biotics for about a year now and am fine but again I haven't had surgery yet

TLBolin got a reaction from mommietam in The Real Skinny on Post-Op Eating Habits
I am now on the waiting list to have gastric bypass surgery after taking the prep classes that start in a couple of weeks. I've bought the Dummy book and some cookbooks for post op but I have a few questions still.
    1. Post Op, do you feel hungry like you used to when your stomach was normal size?
    2. Do you still have cravings? Does anything help with that besides making sure I'm hydrated?
    3. How much weight do you really lose right away?
    4. If I keep up exercising after surgery say about 15-20 minute daily walks will that keep me from having the excess skin leftover? Will it help at least?
    5. Aside from going to Mexico, has anyone found a cheaper way to finance this surgery? Insurance will cover a big portion of mine but I'll still have to pay about $9,000 out of pocket.
    6. How has this affected your family and meal times with them? Is it difficult to watch your family eating a bunch of goodies and you can only eat liquid or soft things for the first few months? How do you cook for the entire family and yourself?
I'm sure I'll have more questions after someone answers these but thank you in advance!

@belkabloom thank you so much for all the advise. My mom was suggesting I chew up and spit out too .. Maybe I'll do that if I really need to but I am ok for now. I live in Los Angeles and my parents love up north in sacramento it's a 6 hour drive and 8 hours if I take the train there's no way I am driving lol. Dr wants me to be close by incase of any complications but I feel fine. I have a dr appointment on the 31st I'll ask them again and if all is well I can go that same day and be there for my birthday yay!! I am being positive

@@krisstep I totally feel what you're feeling. Last night I straight up sobbed because I was in pain and so uncomfortable I couldn't find a decent sleeping position. I'm anxious about when I'll finally feel normal. I am barely eating/drinking so I'm exhausted too. Let alone I keep having to get up (which HURTS) to walk around every now and then.
I just keep remember this is all for a bigger reason. I am 6 Days post op and I have lost 10 pounds since the day of my surgery already.
Feel free to reach out to me if you want to rant! I understand how you feel and am kind of embarrassed how of often I'm crying. But I think it's also a lot of pent up stress that is now releasing itself because the surgery already happened.

I just smiled and went back to my desk. Told her to have a great evening on her way out of the door.

Fortunately, my instructor (and the school owner) appreciates the fact that I don't put up with any sh!t and gives me free reign to p!ss off anyone I see fit. Whooops!

I help run a martial arts school and we have a large afterschool program. I am the friendly, outgoing one who chats up all the parents, smooths over any issues and generally makes sure everyone is happy.

There was one parent who has always been rather standoffish. When someone acts cold or distant, I chalk it up to them being shy or introverted and I rarely take it personally. Over the 6 months or so, she has really started to come around, chatting with me while her kids get their shoes on, smiling a lot more, just being much friendly in general. I figured she was one of the rare people that is very slow to warm up -- no big deal.
    Until Friday.
Friday she looked at me and said, "You know. I find it much easier to take you seriously now that you are not so big." She held her arms out and rounded as if to mime a big, fat person (which, to her defense, I was).

I looked at her, smiled, and before I could stop myself, I said, "You know what? I found it much easier to take YOU seriously when I *WAS* big.", and I held out my arms to mimic hers.

    Silly bitch.
