  1. Morning.

Depends upon when you had your surgery. If you just recently had it, first 2 weeks is liquids only, weeks 3-6 is mushy foods only, weeks 7 to year is GRADUALLY adding different foods (one at a time) because you have a brand new tummy (BABY tummy) and you have to think that way.

Would you put food in a 7 week old baby that is food you would normally eat? This is why your tummy most likely feels yukky. As for not loosing weight, are you walking or just sitting around?

I have not yet been cleared to go to the gym yet, hopefully on Tuesday I get that clearance. I have been walking 30-60 minutes per day since surgery. I loose about 3 pounds per week sometimes more. To date I have lost 58 pounds (I have to update my little scale person). I had my surgery on 11/21/14.

Hope this helps. Have a sparkling and healthy day.

  2. The pain you are feeling is from the gas they put into your abdomen cavity before surgery. To make it better, stop taking the pain medicaiton and WALK, WALK, WALK. It took me three/four days before it was finally gone. I thought I was having heart problems, but it was not.

    Just relax and breathe......................

  3. I was not hungry at all. I had my surgery on 11/21/14. I do remember, however, having a bottle of Water with me everywhere. I even kept one in my bed so when I awoke during the night, I would take a SIP not GULP.

As for moving bowels, have fun with that. You will not move bowels because all you are doing is drinking liquids. Nothing really going in, so nothing will come out. I have just recently started having a regular bowel movement. I even take Miralax nightly to help.

My first 2 weeks were liquids only, after that, for weeks 3-6 I was eatting 2 teaspoonsful of mushy food every 2 hours. It worked out great because I had to make sure I ate something and it wasn't alot. But boy did I loose weight.

Right now I am starting to eat normal food, not much though. I can eat appx 2 oz of meats but I feel full quickly whereas my sister can eat 3-4 oz and has no problems. She had her surgery back in August, 2014.

Remember you have a baby tummy and you have to think like that also.......

  4. I had my surgery performed on 11/21/14. To date I have lost 56 pounds. I loose about 2 pounds a week. Which is usually a normal.

It is harder to exercise in the winter, but you can buy a video or watch Youtube and find a video you can do inside.

You just had the surgery, give yourself a year to loose what you want. My ultimate goal is 150. I have until November to loose it. I don't expect it to drop off in three months......

  5. We were all brought up with the words Fat, Thunder Thighs, and Hippo.......

In today's world, the wording Morbidly Obese is correct. But if you go by the Fashion World, everyone is Morbidly Obese unless you are a size Zero (0).

If you look at the clothes sizes, I use to fit in an XL, but now an XL is really a Small. I have seen Smalls that would fit my 2 year old grand-daughter. It is so sad what today's society has made women feel they should look like, and a man wants a woman to look this way.

Most magazines are of beautiful women, but in reality, they are photo shopped and touched up.

So if people become upset because they are called Morbid Obese and really have never even felt what that is like, They just need to realize the FASHION INDUSTRY/MODELING INDUSTRY has done this to them.

I have a friend who is 5'7" and weights appx 130, and they say she is way overweight. How sad is that. She is a beautiful woman and looks great, but not in the eyes of SOCIETY

  6. Maybe it is just Connecticut. But reading alot of different posts, you all eat food during your first 2 weeks of surgery. I just wonder how? No wonder you all keep getting sick eating food.< /p>

The first two weeks is LIQUIDS only (broth, Water, Boullions, etc) absolutely no foods while your stomach heals. This is the time when you may have a leak and if you are putting food into your new stomach, you cause lots of problems.

After you go for your 2-week visit, that is when you can start eating eggs, yogurt, applesauce, etc. We have to start eating one food at a time to see what makes our stomach upset.

After week 6 is when we can start actually eating a real meal. By this time, your stomach is healed completely and able to digest what you need.

You have to remember when you have this surgery, you are starting with a BABY stomach, Would you feed your baby eggs, applesauce, Jello during their first few weeks of life? Great analogy to our bodies.

  7. Hi.

It is normal. My surgeon and APRN stated when I started my surgery to have 2 tsp of food every 2 hours. I am now 7 weeks out and I still eat every 2 hours, but I try to now get 2 oz in. I keep loosing weight.

Remember you should be eating more times per day, but much smaller portions. When you get to eat regular food, it is 300 calories for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner and three Snacks at 100 calories which equals 1200 calories per day. Remember to exercise too. Right now I assume you are allowed to walk 30 minutes per day (brisk walking)

    You are doing fine.

  8. My one an only thought on this.

YOUR SURGEON DID SURGERY ON YOUR STOMACH, NOT YOUR BRAIN.

It is up to you to keep yourself in check. I know it is hard, but if you are able to go back to the dietitian for some advise..........I would start NOW..

  9. Hi... :)

So here is some good news. You will be able to eat again eventually. You have a BABY tummy, so you have to think like that. Babies start off with liquids, few months later they graduate to mushy foods (one at at time), then you move onto the next stage. I think this way and I am doing great.

I had my surgery on 11/21/14 while my sister had her on 8/21/14. She can eat anything, drinks her Protein shakes, eats about 4-6 oz of food per meal, and she does not exercise.

Me, on the otherhand, I cannot drink any Protein Drinks (so I don't worry), I can only get in about 2 Teaspoons of food every 2 hours. Right now I am lucky if I can eat 2 oz of food. I try, but my stomach tells me NO.

As for the hair loss. I don't see it on me or on the floor of the shower or in my hairbrush, but I know my hair is thinning. My hairdresser as well as the APRN has told me to take Biotin for this. I started it on Tuesday of this week.

For my Vitamins, I have broken them up into different times. I take my synthroid at night and in the morning at 600 I take my MVI, then at 630am I take a Fiber Vitamin. In the afternoon, I take my Omeprazole and my 2nd MVI. Around 3pm, I take my 2nd Fiber Vitamin. I found that if I take them all in the morning, my stomach feels yukky and I ache.

Constipation.............we now all have to deal with this issue. I take a Stool Softener and Once a week I do Miralax. I still have the problem, just not as bad. Remember, you are not taking in alot of food, so there is no FAT to be released. Don't stress it, it will eventurally be back to normal.

I have cheated a few times by having a SMALL piece of chocolate. I had always hated chocolate and now I always want it. But...I know to not let my brain overtake my new stomach.

Relax and enjoy this ride. I know it is tough, but in the end. SO DAMN Worth it. (even with the loose skin....who cares, at least we are healthy.)

    Have a Sprking day.................Annamarie

  10. Be prepared to be sad soon. It is normal and you will get over that slump. Do no Chores or Housework like stated above. I tried and could only do 2 minutes then sat down for 2 hours. You really need to listen to your body. You just had major surgery and it takes time to heal.

Do exactly what your surgeon tells you. They obviosly know more than we do. To date, I have lost 54 pounds just by doing what they say.

If you cannot get your Protein in, don't worry. With me I didn't get any Protein in except maybe 10 oz a day, and that was from the liquids I was drinking. I tried to find something with protein in it.

Relax and realize it takes time. This is the new beginning for you, a second chance. Also, remember they did surgery on your STOMACH not your BRAIN.

Have a sparkling day and relax...

    Annamarie

  11. Danielle.

First of all, you have to do this for you. I watched you-tube videos over and over just so I can see what was going to happen. I was great and excited up until the day of surgery. I knew exactly what I was going to have done, what I had to do in order to make this work. Just remember.....it is a tool, the surgeon is doing surgery on your tummy not your brain, and lastly, they are making you a new "BABY" tummy. You have to start off with formula (liquid), then move to mushy food (baby food), and then graduate to each level just as a baby does. The tissues in your stomach are still able to stretch and bring you right back where you were from the start. It is up to you to make this work, not anyone else.

Yes, we are here to give advice when needed or just to get some ideas as to what you can or cannot eat. What I have realized is that each state and each surgeon is different. I have also noticed on this site, people are sometimes judgmental and harsh. (Just let those go and focus on the positive)

Here in CT, our surgeons have us for the first 2 weeks only 100% liquids, week 3-6 mushy food, 7wk plus you learn to eat smaller portions and in all...it does work, and you don't feel hungry.

As for the loose skin. I would rather be a healthier weight then worry about my extra skin. Who cares, I know I don't. I didn't do this to worry about my skin. I wanted to become more healthier for my grand-daughter and daughters. Oh by the way, I will be 50 in May and I love my decision.

Right now the only exercise I can do, per my APRN is walk at a fast pace. I go back on the 20th of this month and hopefully she will tell me I can do more extensive exercise. I have a year to make myself down to the wieght I want. (150 pounds and ( am 5'7).

I am proud that you have made this decision to become healthier. Being you are only 24 is great that you realized your problem now than later.

As for the pain, hunger, or any other problems after surgery, to each their own. I had Thrush for 2 weeks, my stomach hurt only when I swallowed, but it was because of the Thrush not the surgery. So I cannot eat 3 oz of food yet, my body will tell me when I am ready.

Take your time and ENJOY this ride............................((((HUGGS)))

    Annamarie from Connecticut.

  12. Are you just doing 3 Protein shakes a day? I was not able to even do a Protein shake. For the first 2 weeks post-surgery, I was only able to do liquid only. No food whatsoever. But what I have realized is each surgeons/state does it differently.

To date I have now lost 64 pounds. I am so excited. :)

After the two weeks of liquid only, I then was able to do mushy food but only 2 teaspoonfulls every 2 hours. I also made sure I drank my Water between.

Remember no Water 30 mintues before a meal or 30 minutes after a meal.

    Hope this helps.

  13. I had my surgery on 11/21/14. I have not even succeeded eatting 300-400 calories a day. I try, but my stomach I guess is just not ready.

I eat about 2 oz of food every 3 hours if that. Sometimes I have to force myself to eat something because I am not hungry.

My starting weight was 300 pounds and right now I weight 249.5. I am proud of the work I have succeeded at so far.

What I am suppose to do is eat 3 meals of 300 calories each and 3 Snacks at 100 calories each. I will eventually get there, but I am only a little over a month out.

Happy New Years to you also.

  14. Not a horrible topic..... I was sleeved on 11/21 and did not have a BM until probably Mid-December. Being that I was only doing liquids, nothing was coming out. When I started to eat some mushy type foods, I would poop a little (I mean a little).

I now take a softener because they do not want us to strain to go to the bathroom. I may have a BM once a week if that now.

So it is not a bad topic. Maybe you and I both will get some good advice as to what to do to make it happen more.

    Happy New Year's.
