    Pain with every bite...?

Morning I would say she has a Hiatal Hernia and should go get it checked. This is what happened to me BEFORE the surgery. When I had the sleeve performed, they fixed the hernia and absolutely NO PAIN at all when swallowing. I had my sleeve in November 2014 and the first few weeks, I will say were tough. The first few DAYS were tough, but if you read people's posts, everyone had those issues and were gone within a few days to a week. Relax, everyone is different. It is a hugh life change and if you have the spirit to have this procedure, you will be fine. Annamarie

    Stretching your Sleeve?

Hint..........You have a brand new "BABY" stomach.............think of it that way. While your baby grows and the more food you feed it, their stomach get larger. You now are that baby. If you want your stomach to stay small, you will eat correctly and not eat what is NOT good for you. or.... you can eat crap food and end up right where you started. This is why most fail. They do not realize they were given a second chance and they mess it up, not the doctor, not the friends.....they did it to themselves. Just eat the right size portions, eat when you are hungry only, and realize they did surgery on your Stomach not your Brain. Only you can change your way of thinking. Annamarie
  3. Hi. Keep your chin up, it will get better I promise. When I first joined this group, I realized that we all went through the same process the first few weeks. I, too, had absolutely NO energy but wanted to do things around my house. I actually cried a whole day because it is not like me to just lye around and do nothing. A co-worker I use to work with came to my rescue and let me know what I was feeling was normal. The pain, the not feeling hunger, the no energy, and yes, feeling like I should have not done the surgery. Today I am 2 months out and feel terrific. I still do not have an urge to eat, but I do eat every 2 hours about 2 oz of Protein. I try to get my Water in, but it fills me up to quickly. I even take sips not gulps. You will get over this hump and then you will enjoy your journey to a new you. Any time you want to talk, you can on here and everyone listens. But always remember, do what YOUR surgeon states. Every state is different in the ways that the surgery should be done afterwards. Annamarie
  4. After my surgery I could do mostly just walking. No lifting anything over 10 pounds and no stomach crunches. I could do any type of walking. But in reality, I didn't want to do to much after surgery because it took too much energy. I had to let my body tell me what to do.
  5. I eat every two hours about 2 oz of food, if that. I will have an egg w/cheese in the morning with a mixture of fruit, grapes w/cubed cheese, stuffed pepper w/beef & cheese, string cheese, chicken w/veggie, etc. I have eaten this way since I was able to start mushy food and I just continue. I was told by my doctor that there is no such thing and Breakfast, lunch, dinner and Snacks anymore. With me this routine works. I have a hard time sitting at one meal trying to get down 2-3oz of food (not happening). So eating 7 small meals daily is awesome. You should try and see if this works for you. BTW...........I have not had a Protein drink since my 2-weeks prior to my surgery. My stomach just does not like it Annamarie

    Hypothyroid Meds

Morning. I am on thyroid meds for Hypothyroidism. My strength has changed, it went to a lower dosage. I am happy, but I know that I will never be off this medication. It is okay if this is the only medication I have to continue to take. Annamarie
  8. I am enjoying every minute of this journey and love the compliments I am receiving.

    2014 Sleevers

Morning. Depends upon when you had your surgery. If you just recently had it, first 2 weeks is liquids only, weeks 3-6 is mushy foods only, weeks 7 to year is GRADUALLY adding different foods (one at a time) because you have a brand new tummy (BABY tummy) and you have to think that way. Would you put food in a 7 week old baby that is food you would normally eat? This is why your tummy most likely feels yukky. As for not loosing weight, are you walking or just sitting around? I have not yet been cleared to go to the gym yet, hopefully on Tuesday I get that clearance. I have been walking 30-60 minutes per day since surgery. I loose about 3 pounds per week sometimes more. To date I have lost 58 pounds (I have to update my little scale person). I had my surgery on 11/21/14. Hope this helps. Have a sparkling and healthy day.

    pureed food! baby food?

I did the baby food, but you have to watch the sugar intake. I did not like the dinners/veggies. I did mostly the Desserts...lol

    Surgery was on 1/12/15

My Advice because that is where my gas pain was...........WALK WALK WALK....................It actually moves the gas around and pain disappears quicker
  12. Tauruslady5

    Still in pain.....

The pain you are feeling is from the gas they put into your abdomen cavity before surgery. To make it better, stop taking the pain medicaiton and WALK, WALK, WALK. It took me three/four days before it was finally gone. I thought I was having heart problems, but it was not. Just relax and breathe......................

    Anxiety Surrounding Eating

Here is what helped me: I ate 2 teaspoons every 2 hours. I am still unable to even eat 2-3 oz of food at a sitting and I had my surgery in November. Take your time, it is a new BABY tummy. They don't eat much when they are first trying foods either.
  14. I had my surgery here in CT on 11/21/14 and I am only on Cardio (Walking fast) for 30 min per day. No strenous picking up or exercises. I go for my 2 month f/u on 1/20 and hopefully I will get the Okay to do more weight lifting. It takes a good while for your stomach to be completely healed. Just take one day at a time and walk, walk, walk.
  15. I was not hungry at all. I had my surgery on 11/21/14. I do remember, however, having a bottle of Water with me everywhere. I even kept one in my bed so when I awoke during the night, I would take a SIP not GULP. As for moving bowels, have fun with that. You will not move bowels because all you are doing is drinking liquids. Nothing really going in, so nothing will come out. I have just recently started having a regular bowel movement. I even take Miralax nightly to help. My first 2 weeks were liquids only, after that, for weeks 3-6 I was eatting 2 teaspoonsful of mushy food every 2 hours. It worked out great because I had to make sure I ate something and it wasn't alot. But boy did I loose weight. Right now I am starting to eat normal food, not much though. I can eat appx 2 oz of meats but I feel full quickly whereas my sister can eat 3-4 oz and has no problems. She had her surgery back in August, 2014. Remember you have a baby tummy and you have to think like that also....... Annamarie

    I'm kinda disappointed

I had my surgery performed on 11/21/14. To date I have lost 56 pounds. I loose about 2 pounds a week. Which is usually a normal. It is harder to exercise in the winter, but you can buy a video or watch Youtube and find a video you can do inside. You just had the surgery, give yourself a year to loose what you want. My ultimate goal is 150. I have until November to loose it. I don't expect it to drop off in three months...... Annamarie

    Need help!

It is Flu season and also a stomach flu is going around here in CT.

What's the real deal with soda?

Well, let's see. Doctor did surgery on your stomach not your Brain. If you want to drink the soda (lots of sugar), then go to it. Coke, why Coke? It can clear up blood on cement, just imagine what it does to your new stomach. Actually any soda (sugar-free or not) is not good for your system anyways. It is your choice whether to drink it or not.....we can only give advice. Annamarie.
  19. We were all brought up with the words Fat, Thunder Thighs, and Hippo....... In today's world, the wording Morbidly Obese is correct. But if you go by the Fashion World, everyone is Morbidly Obese unless you are a size Zero (0). If you look at the clothes sizes, I use to fit in an XL, but now an XL is really a Small. I have seen Smalls that would fit my 2 year old grand-daughter. It is so sad what today's society has made women feel they should look like, and a man wants a woman to look this way. Most magazines are of beautiful women, but in reality, they are photo shopped and touched up. So if people become upset because they are called Morbid Obese and really have never even felt what that is like, They just need to realize the FASHION INDUSTRY/MODELING INDUSTRY has done this to them. I have a friend who is 5'7" and weights appx 130, and they say she is way overweight. How sad is that. She is a beautiful woman and looks great, but not in the eyes of SOCIETY

    Question in regards to recovery.

Maybe it is just Connecticut. But reading alot of different posts, you all eat food during your first 2 weeks of surgery. I just wonder how? No wonder you all keep getting sick eating food. The first two weeks is LIQUIDS only (broth, Water, Boullions, etc) absolutely no foods while your stomach heals. This is the time when you may have a leak and if you are putting food into your new stomach, you cause lots of problems. After you go for your 2-week visit, that is when you can start eating eggs, yogurt, applesauce, etc. We have to start eating one food at a time to see what makes our stomach upset. After week 6 is when we can start actually eating a real meal. By this time, your stomach is healed completely and able to digest what you need. You have to remember when you have this surgery, you are starting with a BABY stomach, Would you feed your baby eggs, applesauce, Jello during their first few weeks of life? Great analogy to our bodies. Annamarie

    Help please! Hungry!

Hi. It is normal. My surgeon and APRN stated when I started my surgery to have 2 tsp of food every 2 hours. I am now 7 weeks out and I still eat every 2 hours, but I try to now get 2 oz in. I keep loosing weight. Remember you should be eating more times per day, but much smaller portions. When you get to eat regular food, it is 300 calories for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner and three Snacks at 100 calories which equals 1200 calories per day. Remember to exercise too. Right now I assume you are allowed to walk 30 minutes per day (brisk walking) You are doing fine.

    Help?

My one an only thought on this. YOUR SURGEON DID SURGERY ON YOUR STOMACH, NOT YOUR BRAIN. It is up to you to keep yourself in check. I know it is hard, but if you are able to go back to the dietitian for some advise..........I would start NOW.. Annamarie
  23. My thought: They are going to be putting a tube down your throat and if you are already having congestion they may not perform the surgery. I agree with most...........contact your surgeon TODAY

    Love & Hate relationship

Hi... So here is some good news. You will be able to eat again eventually. You have a BABY tummy, so you have to think like that. Babies start off with liquids, few months later they graduate to mushy foods (one at at time), then you move onto the next stage. I think this way and I am doing great. I had my surgery on 11/21/14 while my sister had her on 8/21/14. She can eat anything, drinks her Protein shakes, eats about 4-6 oz of food per meal, and she does not exercise. Me, on the otherhand, I cannot drink any Protein Drinks (so I don't worry), I can only get in about 2 Teaspoons of food every 2 hours. Right now I am lucky if I can eat 2 oz of food. I try, but my stomach tells me NO. As for the hair loss. I don't see it on me or on the floor of the shower or in my hairbrush, but I know my hair is thinning. My hairdresser as well as the APRN has told me to take Biotin for this. I started it on Tuesday of this week. For my Vitamins, I have broken them up into different times. I take my synthroid at night and in the morning at 600 I take my MVI, then at 630am I take a Fiber Vitamin. In the afternoon, I take my Omeprazole and my 2nd MVI. Around 3pm, I take my 2nd Fiber vitamin. I found that if I take them all in the morning, my stomach feels yukky and I ache. Constipation.............we now all have to deal with this issue. I take a Stool Softener and Once a week I do MIRALAX. I still have the problem, just not as bad. Remember, you are not taking in alot of food, so there is no FAT to be released. Don't stress it, it will eventurally be back to normal. I have cheated a few times by having a SMALL piece of chocolate. I had always hated Chocolate and now I always want it. But...I know to not let my brain overtake my new stomach. Relax and enjoy this ride. I know it is tough, but in the end. SO DAMN Worth it. (even with the loose skin....who cares, at least we are healthy.) Have a Sprking day.................Annamarie

    From Hospital to Home….

Be prepared to be sad soon. It is normal and you will get over that slump. Do no Chores or Housework like stated above. I tried and could only do 2 minutes then sat down for 2 hours. You really need to listen to your body. You just had major surgery and it takes time to heal. Do exactly what your surgeon tells you. They obviosly know more than we do. To date, I have lost 54 pounds just by doing what they say. If you cannot get your Protein in, don't worry. With me I didn't get any protein in except maybe 10 oz a day, and that was from the liquids I was drinking. I tried to find something with protein in it. Relax and realize it takes time. This is the new beginning for you, a second chance. Also, remember they did surgery on your STOMACH not your BRAIN. Have a sparkling day and relax... Annamarie
