March 2015 Sleevers
LaLa Lady replied to giggleblue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I am glad to hear from so many that you have had such good results, March was our lucky month. I had my surgery on the 26th and am two weeks out today. I am amazed at how quickly recovery was for me and am thrilled to have had no real complications. I was in the hospital for three days as I was slow to get the liquids down but once I was over that hurdle everything has been moving on schedule. I saw the dietician and the surgeons assistant today for my first post-op and was given the okay to add soft foods. I have lost 19 lbs!! I am starting to feel more restriction when I eat now which I am happy about since I was beginning to worry that somehow this hadn't worked for me. So far so good, I am greatful. -
Ladies! Pain Levels post-op
LaLa Lady replied to windeedae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Over the years I have had two c-sections, a hysterectomy and VSG. The VSG was by far the least amount of discomfort! Pain meds and gas meds help ease any discomfort but no severe pain or long recovery involved like the c-sections. At least this was my experience...good luck! -
Too much food?
LaLa Lady replied to Weighting2BeFree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh I have the same problem and I am 13 days out. I feel like I can hold a lot of food especially when I read about 3 bites to full by others. My diet is mushy but am noticing that density has a lot to do with feeling anything. Oddly SF pudding is my sort of full food. Tonight I had 1/2 cup of minestrone soup, homemade, mainly broth but it was my first 'one bite too many' feeling. I can feel it in my esophagus...yuck! -
I also track but use an app called Lose It...

Reversal for gastric sleeve?
LaLa Lady replied to Gladys62's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's sad to read this about your health. I cannot imagine how difficult it is to get through this without a good medical team to help move you in the right direction. I agree with the advice everyone gave you about finding a good bariatric and GI doctor to work with. Forget the past doctor and move forward with someone who can get your health back on track. I find the shakes a bit overwhelming also so I have been using isopure liquid protein drinks diluted with water. Warm water with lemon is also hydrating if you can tolerate it. Please don't give up there are many good doctors who can deal with these issues. I will keep you in my prayers. -
We are about the same days out from VSG. I asked my surgeon about the not really being able to 'feel' when I was full or not and he said that it is not uncommon on the clear and full fluids part of the plan. Stick to your doctors plan, now is the time for healing our newly stapled tummies. Good luck.

Hi All, I'm finally home today...3 days post-op and it feels good. Still mainly on clear liquids and squeezing in some full liquids. I'm drinking about 16 ounces of water, 8oz. Of liquid protein and some jello. I have not started my vitiamns yet, probably tomorrow. Walking around the house but still very sleepy. How is everyone else doing?

I have officially been a 'sleever" for about 12 hours now! I am a bit sore and definately groggy but so far everything is going well. Took an assisted walk down the hospital hall and am wearing the 'squeezing' leg socks which also helps. Definately better than I expected so that's all for now, since it took me about half hour to peck out this little post.... Fingers crossed for continued progress for all of us! Oh is there a post-op M arch Sleevers group? Thanks.

Well it's finally here...seems a bit surreal! Off to bed and waking at 5a.m. For a 6:00 check in and surgery at 7:30! This site and all the posts have helped me greatly along my journey to this point, I'm not sure I'd be as comfortable or as knowledgeable as I am about all of this without you all. A big thanks and to all of you for sharing and I'll let you know how I'm doing in a few days....God willing and the creek don't rise! (Southernism:)

Surgery Scheduled for Gastro Sleeve and I'm panicking!
LaLa Lady replied to dmarieharper's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well I can only tell you that I am just finishing up my all liquid pre-op fast and it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. If you stick to the protein shakes they keep you surprisingly full and I was allowed to fill in with sugar free jello and popsickles. I did have a weak moment of eatting two dill pickles but that was to satisfy my need to crunch! Distract yourself with things you've been meaning to do and Keep yourself busy, it will pass quickly and soon you'll be on your way into the O.R...oh and go to bed early with a good book! Good Luck! -
Good wishes for all of us having surgery this week!

Two delicious dill pickles! Tasted wonderful.

Okay, so far so good on the pre-op diet, but now comes the weekend! Any helpful suggestions?

@MaryC94. Surgeons are all so different in their requirements for diets I am not surprised they have different pre-op tests ordered. Unless you have a specific concern I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure they are required by different insurance companies to meet different criteria. Good luck!

Well day three of the pre-op diet completed and my pre-op tests were completed yesterday so I'm on the way to a new journey. I will say that yesterday I had a bit of a reality scare when my pre-op chest x-Ray and follow up CT scan showed a small lung nodule. Never heard of this before...so now what? Well the surgeons office called today to say that it's nothing to be worried about, the doctor looked at it and said its very small and it will be followed thru CT scans every six months. Never have been a smoker so I guess that's a good thing as far as risk goes and is most likely scar tissue from an infection. Well anyway surgery for next Thursday is still on schedule but I must say I don't think I will experience the pre-op gitters or complain about the liquid diet after knowing the outcome of yesterday's tests could have been different! So cheers to shakes and good health

I am having my WLS next week but have read that lying flat on the OR table causes some to experience back pain afterwards. Just something I read, don't really know. However, check with your doctor to be sure.

Day one pre-op diet is complete...not bad, I stuck to it and kept busy. I missed the crunching and chewing the most but I wasn't really hungry. I am scheduled for prep tests all day tomorrow so I am at a nearby hotel since I'm an hour and a half away and don't want to hit commuter traffic and delays. I got a confirmation letter in the mail that basically said you're late, you are out! No pressure! Haha. Oh well, early to bed so I am not late!
-
Good morning. Day one of pre-op diet. So far so good... LOL.

Best wishes to all the March sleevers having WLS this week. Mines next week...getting there. Eeek!

I found a few books helpful. I especially liked one titled THE SLEEVED LIFE. I also read some blogs VSG patients wrote over the first year of their journey. I think it's normal to second guess ourselves as we get closer to surgery but remember why you started this. If you still are not sure you may not be ready yet.

Gastric sleeve that developed a leak

Therapist says "You can do it w/o surgery"
LaLa Lady replied to MoMo12onTheGo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is very unfortunate, I would definitely let the surgeon and bariatric group you work with know you had this experience. I was glad I was given an approved list of psychologists that had experience with bariatrics. Sounds like you got a loser but I wouldn't let it get to you, it's her problem not you. Good luck with the rest of your prep work! -
KAtieD I start mine on the16th for 10 days...same diet as yours. Let me know how it goes...good luck!
