When I was a little girl growing up in Northern Minnesota on May 1st we would make little baskets of candy and put them on our friends door step, knock on the door and run. It was our way of celebrating May Day. I was wondering if anyone else did something like this? It really makes me nostalgic thinking about a simplier life and time.

I remember doing that when I was like maybe 8 or 9 years old!

I loved the Coen brothers' movie set in North Dakota, you know, Fargo....

I must make one thing clear....WE DO NOT TALK LIKE THAT!!!! It is soo frustrating because people might really think that is how we talk!

It was a great movie, aside from that! They shot some scenes here, I remember driving by the upside down car on the way to work for quite a few days, that was from the part where the car rolled over into the ditch and the guy shot the two people. Oh, and the statue of Paul Bunyan was set up over by a little town about 10 miles from me. It was really cool!

take your camera to the wedding (this only works if you are a halfway acceptable photographer and can put together a decent album) and take lots of pictures yourself. Lots of candids are great, especially of kids and people dancing/talking/etc. Then you load them on snapfish.com (the best quality processing for the best price I have found) and order some prints. Make some B&W, some different sepia or pink tones, etc (all easy to do on SF.com) and then you make a wedding album for them. You can easily get it all put together in a couple of weeks and send it to them. They will LOVE it, it will be WAAAAY cheaper than a gift from the registry, it will give them photos liekly before they get theirs from the official photographer, and it is guaranteed to be one of the best gifts they receive. I have done this for the past four weddings I've gone to. Snapfish also has enlargements for a reasonable price, one of the weddings I attended, I just selected some very nice photos and had made into some 5x7's (less than $1 each) and some 8x10's (less than $3) and bought some beautiful frames and then wrapped them and gave that as a gift. Went over just as well.

I love it here in ND. We can afford to live in the country here and have horses and pets and enjoy some peace and quiet, yet drive 10 miles in to town and shop at nearly every major store you can imagine. We have it all. OK so I will admit, winter was a little long and crazy this year.... but... I really like it here in ND.

What I meant by my post that you quoted was the particular town I live in, not North Dakota as a whole. I like North Dakota, born and raised here, but the town I live in sucks. I wouldn't mind living in Grand Forks, but I would LOVE to move to Fargo, maybe some day....right now I am over an hour away from really good shopping, and I love to shop!!

My Mom lives by Hazen, it is really pretty country over there, here it is flat flat flat....

Anyway, just wanted you to know that! It's always nice to see other North Dakotans here!!

I have a question though. People have been talking about is there or isn't there a double standard when it comes to use of words, etc. Remember that movie "White Chicks", where 2 black guys pretended to be white girls? I've only seen parts of the movie and it was good, but my question is.....what would happen if some white guys made a movie called "Black Chicks" and did the same type of thing? Would that be OK or would there be an outrage? I'm just really curious because I do believe there is a bit of a double standard and that's ok by me.

I just read on TMZ.com that AKON didn't perform live, it was taped. They also said that Pink taped her performance last night after the live show was over and that Paula, Simon and Randy didn't stick around to watch, they put audience people in their seats. I guess I will be watching a little more closely when they air Pink's performance to see if you can tell that the judges aren't there!

I'd like to talk about how none of the oil-rich countries sent help to the tsunami victims. Did they offer to help Katrina, or did I miss that? Who is helping Darfur? Has North Korea sent rice to any of the victims in the Philippines? Have the diplomats of OPEC somehow overlooked the floods in Guatemala and the Japanese earthquakes?

Just why DOES the EU ignore the plight of the 'under advantaged disaffected unemployed immigrant youths' who are burning an average of 50 cars a night in Paris....who continue to assault French Firemen daring to respond to flames in "their" neighborhood? I'd like our own diplomats to tell us all on the main front page of every paper in the US, just WHY we are overrun by violent 'immigrants' who are otherwise only looking for a job....and to explain why MY grandparents had to stand in line to get in to the country when no one else does now....and who labored like slaves but had no reparations demands...

Bash the Christians all you want; expose the conservative agenda for all its failures, and there are plenty. Then take a look and see just where the deterioration of our society began, and which part of our policies of entitlement have improved the plight of any of us...... The liberal agenda of social changes initiated in the 60s, has induced a horrid decline in many of our institutions. We can't use the 17 UN resolutions and diplomatic attempts by the world body, to head an errant-but-well-meaning dictator back into the agreement he signed the last time he lost....

Regardless of religion, philosophy, politics, Rome brought roads and bridges to the Western world. All at a cost to the locals, and the locals continued to use those improvements even after Rome faded. The cost of the legions and the construct of such was part of the Roman budget too.

What defense purpose is an airfield in the middle of the sands of the mid-east? What defense purpose is having that standing army?

What defense purpose are those who specialize in vigilance and preparedness?

What defensive purpose is there in vaccinations and public health laws? Shouldn't we just wait until smallpox breaks out before we respond?

Shouldn't we just wait until Iran sends one of their little missiles over, at the same time Korea does another of THEIR tests? We don't want to inflame them do we....

Since everyone is debating facts vs opinions, let me state that the following is my opinion:

Both celebrities on the Left and on the Right say things that are offensive.

Celebrities on the Right usually say things that are offensive to people on the Left.

Celebrities on the Left usually say things that are offensive to people on the Right.

Sometimes celebrities on the Left or on the Right say things that are offensive to everyone.

I think most of us can agree with the above opinions.

I think were the divergence comes into play is when LBT members state that there are two differences.

#1. Many of the celebrities on the Right are comedians pretending to be journalists, while the celebrities on the Left are people that admit that they are comedians. And I would hope that words of comedians would not be taken at face value as those of a journalist would.

I have a problem with this one though...so celebrities can say whatever they want because they can pass it off as comedy, BUT a journalist can't make any jokes because they are not comedians??? PUH-LEASE!!!

Bill Mahr can say that Cheney should die, but it is passed off as comedy, but when Ann Coulter makes a joke about an "f" word, that is extremely offensive and creates incredible uproar. (Now, I don't like what she said and am not saying it shouldn't have caused an uproar, but the same should be said for Bill too.) Why shouldn't comedians be held responsible for their words too??? They can't always hide behind their title of comedian because it's obvious their remarks are anything but comedy, they are dead serious.....IMHO
