    I was 258lb on 3/23 and I'm bouncing between 209 and 213 since 6/9 so ALMOST 50lbs. Almost...

1 month stall 3 months out

I don't have an answer but am going through this as well. RNY surgery 3/24 at 258lbs and lost steadily until 6/9 where I have been bouncing up and down the same 4-5lbs for the last 6 weeks. It's no fun but time will pass whether I dwell on it or not so I'm keepin' on! Good luck guys!

    Considering the Lap Band!

My two cents are research, research, research. I was banded in 2010 and I would frequent all the lap band boards, I would see all the success and before and afters, and I wanted that. I wanted that so bad... What I didn't research was the complications and fail rates of the band. I did everything I was supposed to... 6 week fills, no carbonated drinks, low sugar, low carb, and it still just didn't work. After over 2 full years of vomiting, damaged esophagus, and band slippage, and extra surgeries...not to mention only a 30lb loss, I gave up. I got a complete unfill and started researching revisions. Please do the research! Most surgeons won't perform the lap band because of the fail rates and revision amounts. But best of luck to you and whatever you think is best!
  4. I would order two value meals at fast food places but change the soda so it was like I was ordering for two people. And then I'd go to Dairy Queen and get two blizzards... Like daily. Or I'd polish off a box of snack cakes or two boxes of Kraft mac and cheese or a couple bags of chips, couple grilled cheeses... I was a world class binge eater and was awful. I had the lap band during all this so you can absolutely eat around any WLS took. I never, ever wanna be that person again.

this might be a bit awkward but....

Miralax draws Water from your colon and softens your stool, it shouldn't cause the cramps and explosions (lol) that exlax does. I still take a capful daily just to ensure I stay regular, even at 10 weeks post op. Constipation is super uncomfortable and I'll do anything to prevent it!
  6. I took a week off from a full time retail job and I'm a part time support staff for adults with disablities. I couldn't lift anything over 10 lbs for 1 full week and then I had to "take it easy" for 2 more. I was lucky and didn't suffer from a ton of fatigue so I was ready to go back after 7 days.

    Adrenaline Junkies

I was 8 week post on when our local Six Flags opened and everything was just fine. Rode every roller coaster more than once. ????

    "You will fail"....question

I don't dump over anything. I had a hardcore sugar addiction before my bypass revision and thus far I don't have cravings for sugar. I don't do a low carb diet so I do eat fruits so maybe that takes care of the sweet tooth I have. I never have cravings for cake or cookies or anything I was struggling with just a few months ago... Just my two cents.
  9. I'd like to echo the others and tell you to research all your options to exhaustion. I was banded in 2010 because I thought didn't want anything permanent...which is kind of silly to me now. I started at 245, lost 35 lbs in a couple months and then started having problems after problem after problem. For 4 years I dealt with unsuccessful fills and vomiting and stuck food and so on. The port flipped and the band damaged my esophagus... The stats on the band failure rate are super high and most band patients require more surgeries for one thing or another. I had the bypass revision about 10 weeks ago and I am so happy now. No stuck food, no vomiting, and I feel fabulous! Discuss your options with your surgeon and see what they think you will be most successful with. Most surgeons won't even do lap band surgeries anymore. Good luck!

    Does fit bit help?

I have a Fitbit Charge and I'm one of those people who have tried out a lot of fitness gadgets (Bodybugg/Bodymedia, Jawbone Up, pedometers, Vivofit) and I really enjoy the Fitbit. It's pretty similar to the Jawbone but I like that the Charge has a display so it can double as a watch. I wear it daily and it keeps me on track to making sure I hit those goals I set for myself. It's my favorite free service fitness app by far and I would recommend it to anyone who liked to check their stats throughout the day.

To band or not to band?

I was able to feel my port and wearing certain belts would push on it and make it uncomfortable. I had my port flip and result in a couple extra surgeries until I finally had it removed for good. No more port pain. ????????
  12. 5 years out from lap band and 9 weeks out from revision! I had the band taken out and had the bypass done. I had nothing but issues with that horrible band and I couldn't be happier with where I am. 45 lbs down and more active than ever! Good luck guys, it's worth it!
  13. I share a very similar story too! Got the lap band in 2010 and went through two years of fills with no "sweet spot". Lost about 35 lbs total and had problem after problem. Got a complete unfilled in 2012 and still got stuck and vomited weekly. I researched revisions at the end of last year and was sold on the sleeve. I met with my surgeon and he was all on board with the sleeve. I went for several GI pre op tests and one came back that the band had damaged my esophagus... Because of this my surgeon felt I would be unsuccessful with the sleeve. I'm now 9 weeks post op bypass and loving it! Down almost 45 lbs. Very long story short, discuss your decision with your surgeon and make sure he thinks you'd be successful with the sleeve.

    Almost time!

I was supposed to check in at 1045am for a 1215pm surgery. Ended up having my surgery after 9 pm because of an emergency right before mine... Good times. Best of luck to you and your surgeon and here's hoping for a quick and easy recovery for ya.

    Can't Decide

I don't think the fact that she "only" has a 100 lbs to lose is a good deciding factor. I've seen many lightweights chose to get the bypass and are successful with it.

    Can't Decide

I know one of the reasons people choose bypass over sleeve is acid reflux or GERD. From what I've read if you have reflux before surgery it gets much worse. It also seems that some folks with the lap band or sleeve eventually get a revision to the bypass, which is the gold standard in bariatric surgery...but many, many people are happy and successful with the sleeve. Sounds like something you may wanna sit down with your surgeon and together decide. I was set on the sleeve until my pre op GI tests came back and the lap band had damaged my esophagus. He told me I may have issues with the sleeve and suggested the bypass. Best of luck on your decision and your surgery!
  17. I am a band to bypass patient. I was banded in 2010, lost about 30 lbs, and began having issues. I was unfilled about 2 years and then started having swallowing issues. I started researching revision options summer 2014 and was sold on the sleeve. I read and watched every sleeve-related article or video I could find. When I had my consult in January, the doctor was all on board with the sleeve so I went for my pre op tests which included a esophageal manomtry (which is awful) and other GI tests. Long story short, the band damaged my esophagus and it was slowly swallowing which is why I'd get stuck even with thick liquids. Because of this my doctor felt the bypass was the better option and I trusted what my doctor suggested because he knows, I don't. I wanted whatever I was going to be most successful with regardless of what I thought I wanted. I'm almost 10 weeks post op and very happy with where I'm at and where I know I'm going. No vomiting and no swallowing issues!

    A Year From Now

Sorry, read your question wrong. I'm about where you are now so I can't help with a year out. But good luck on your journey!

    Post op day three

The gas pains are incredible and awful. There are no real ways around them and, for me, no pain killer touched them. I refused the morphine after the first night because there was just no point. I walked hourly and it didn't really help. I'm at the end of 4 days out and still have some gas pains in my upper shoulders but it is a blessing compared to those first 24-36 hours. Hang in there guys, it'll be worth it for all of us! I know when I get a little down, I Google before and after pics or come to these forums sites and look at everyone's pictures. It's very motivating to know I'm gonna be there!

    Post op day three

Day 3 post op for me today. Man those first 48 hours after were no joke. I had severe, non-exiting gas pains. I walked the halls hourly and it was slow going! Better today but still having some discomfort. I'm a lap band to bypass revision with a hernia repair. My middle section is tender but I'd take it over those gas pains anyday...yikes. Fluids and Protein are flowing down slow and easy, happy to not have any nausea. Good luck all!
  21. Just my two cents: I had the lap band in 2010, lost about 30 lbs and started having complications. Went for two years for fill after fill after unfill until finally I was fed up with never hitting "the spot". I've had my band completely unfilled for two years and still cannot eat dense Proteins or raw veggies. After researching revision surgeries last summer, I had my heart set on a VSG until I did a few tests and my surgeon found that my esophagus was weakened due to the band, so he recommends bypass, which I'll be getting this month.
  22. It happens. I had all my pre-op tests done on Feb 4th. My PCP had my chest xray, EKG, and bloodwork faxed to my surgeons office Feb 5th...after faxing these tests FOUR additional times to the surgeons office, they finally "have everything" to send to my insurance. It has been absolutely ridiculous... I'm giving them a call tomorrow to check for a 5th time if they really have everything. Be annoying as much as you need to be... This is your surgery, not theirs.
  23. Looking great, Tamg26k! I'm working with Dr. Scott myself. I can only hope to look as good as you post op!
  24. I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield through my husband's job here in MO and they cover "medically necessary" revisions with a BMI over 40 or over 35 with co-morbidties. I was able to find out exactly what I needed to be approved to go from lap band to gastric bypass just from Googling "revision requirements Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield". Or you can give them a call.
  25. I was actually set on having the sleeve until my surgeon found out my esophagus is weak from the esophageal manomtry test he requires pre-op. I've had a complete unfill for over two years and still get stuck very often. He mentioned the sleeve may act more like the band and cause me issues so recommended the bypass.
