  1. I don't know... 25 pounds in 3 months sounds pretty great to me... I for one had never been able to have that kind of success before surgery. Maybe reframe your thinking a little and see those 25 pounds gone as the blessing that it is. I think half of our journey is between our ears

And this is why I WALK ALONE!

When she said she was just going to go on I think I might have said "I was sure hoping you'd say that... the way your acting doesn't make me want to keep walking with you!" ...and I think that would be my last excursion with her. Obviously she is insensitive to your feelings and willing to embarrass you in front of others. She might like to walk faster but for ONE WALK for the sake of the relationship... she could have went at someone else's pace without making a scene!

    Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!

I mix mine with honey and a scoop of chocolate Protein powder... Not sure if it is an acquired taste but I like it! Plain Greek yogurt is also a good substitution for sour cream or mayo.

    Where to shop?

Macy's and JCPenny's are great... don't spend too much though because chances are whatever you buy right now will be too big in a couple of months! I found a couple of cute consignment shops that I'm getting things at... one of them lets me trade in my too big clothes for smaller sizes...

    Incisional pain

I had pain like that which began about 2 weeks after surgery and then a large egg shaped nodule formed under my incision site... I ended up hurting all the time, not just with moving or stretching like at first, so after a week of suffering I went to see my surgeon. It turned out to be an infection at the incision site. He drained it and put me on antibiotics and I almost immediately felt better. If hubby gets any worse or doesn't feel better in a day or two, have him call the surgeon's office. That's what they're for and they know exactly what they are looking at. Tell him not to wait for fear of bothering them like I did... Hope he feels better soon!

    One Chicken Taco

So yesterday I forgot my well thought out, nicely packed lunch on the kitchen counter and at lunch time was scrambling for something to eat. I decided to go to Taco Time and order one chicken Lite Taco because I could just eat the insides and have a pretty good size serving of chicken with a little cheese, lettuce, and tomato. I walked up to the counter and ordered "One Chicken Lite Taco please" with what I assume was a pleasant and normal look on my face.... when all hell broke loose! The guy at the counter asked what I would like with that and when I said nothing, he commented that "NOBODY only eats one taco!" His coworker friend overheard this, and had to put her two cents in because apparently I had grown antennas and was now an alien at the counter... She said "seriously? Are you for real?" and began laughing. Then a person standing there waiting for their order said something about the food being pretty expensive at Taco Time in an effort to rescue me I think... I purposely paid with a $20 and walked out feeling like a giant weirdo! Have any of you guys had such a dramatic reaction to the smaller amount of food you eat after surgery? I knew people probably noticed but this made it really crystal clear to me.... and what's funny... I couldn't even finish all of that chicken! LOL

  12. I chose the sleeve because: *I didn't want my guts rearranged (bypass) or a foreign object inside me forever (band) *I didn't want dumping... I wanted to be able to have a normal life where you have birthday cake once in awhile. *I liked the idea of the Grehlin reduction because I was always ravenous before *I didn't want to worry about Vitamin deficiencies/malabsorption that some people get with other surgeries *My surgeon thought it was the appropriate choice for me And I feel like it was a great decision!!

Well I have now hit my target weight

Wow these insurance companies are something else... it just seems like barrier after barrier.... but good for you for accomplishing that loss!! That is not easy and just keep going... no matter what barriers get thrown at you. You can do it!
  14. I've heard this is called "water nausea" and it happened to me too. Although it didn't make me nauseous to drink Water, it just actually kind of hurt... the only way to describe it would be to say that water felt too "hard" like it just landed in my new tummy with a bang. It took about a month before I could drink it again. But on the plus side, most surgeons don't care if it's water, they just want you to get in your liquids. So just keep sipping on other liquids you can tolerate. Another thing to consider is that for some reason, room temperature or warm liquids go down easier for many many people after surgery.

    How did you get started?

I went to a seminar put on by one of the hospitals near me. You might look up your hospital's website to see if their hosting Bariatric surgery seminars. That's where I heard about the different types of surgeries and the risks to each one. Afterwards, I talked to my doctor about it and it turned out that his long time nurse who I love and trust had previously worked at a Bariatric surgery clinic. She was a great resource for me and offered the name of a couple of surgeons to research. I did and settled on one I liked. Before I could go any further though I had to get insurance approval so at the same time I called my insurance and got that process started. It took me 8 months total to jump through all the hoops but so worth it! Good luck on your journey!

    Valentine's Challenge

Today's weight: 187.4 Thanks again for doing this for us!
  17. Listen to music, take a warm bath, or pet an animal to help with anxiety.... For insomnia try not to nap during the day, limit caffeine to morning hours, limit stimuli before bed, and try to develop a bedtime routine of some sort. When you do the same things each night it triggers your brain that it is time to sleep. Sorry you're struggling... hope you feel better soon!

    Insurance approved or not

It took me 8 months total. Sounds like some of your requirements are similar to mine. I had to have a 6 month supervised diet by my Primary Physician (with reports sent to an insurance case manager), a sleep study for my sleep apenea, a psychological evaluation, an endoscopy, 2 nutritionist appointments, 2 surgeon appointments, and 3 sets of lab work. It's a lot but it is worth it in the end... don't give up! I honestly think the insurance companies try to purposely make it difficult so some people will drop out. Just my own thought. Best of luck to you!
  20. Okay so today is the long awaited day I'm supposed to go back to a regular diet... the dream has finally arrived and I feel so scared and nervous to eat solid, real foods! I'm afraid I will hurt my new tummy or get sick or stretch my pouch or, or, or, arrgghh! My main fears are around fresh fruits and vegetables although that is what I'm really craving at this point. (Who thought I'd ever say that huh?) Anyway's how did you guys do when you first started back to a regular diet? Any tips or suggestions?

    Not Losing Weight

This happened to me too at first. I gained 7 pounds out of surgery and the first week didn't lose anything. I was really worried and lots of negative self-talk started to creep in like I was going to fail at this the same as every other diet I'd ever tried. Then the healing began and the process started to work and the weight started coming off. It will for you too! Try not to worry.

    Comparison: VSG to C section?

The worst pain I experienced was actually in my shoulder from the gas/air bubbles and I was not prepared for that... no one told me.. I never had a C-section, but I had a hysterectomy and that was FAR FAR worse... to me the sleeve was not that painful. I literally woke up feeling like I'd had a nice nap lol But as others have said..we're all different.
