    warner Robins Georgia!

I live in Lizella, and my surgery date is Feb 2
  4. I have cerebral palsy and am having gastric bypass on Feb 2. I am mobile but generally slow after surgery. My doc is ordering PT to access me and assist me postop with walking in the hospital. I will take my time in healing at home. I know my risks and will becareful. Ask loads of questions. Get options.
  5. I know mine is very mild compared to many, I'm very independent and like it. I hate having others looking after me, even for short periods. Having this surgery for me means I have to depend on the husband and roomies for several weeks while I recover. I get to run the house from the recliner lol. Hubby knows to expect me to be cranky, I'm not sure if the roomies are ready for it, I've started deferring household tasks to everyone else to prep them now rather than 3 weeks from now, it's meeting resistance at the moment. I think it's not real to anyone in the house yet, think it will be once the liquid diet starts.

    Coffee

My surgeon initially said no to the coffee too, I'm 40, and have been drinking coffee since I was 2, parents gave me my morning cup in my bottle! And mine was percolated back then, and not for the faint of heart. My pediatrician prescribed coffee to help my migraines and assist with the constipation I have suffered from all my life. Going coffee free for me would mean endless migraines from now on. Parents tried to wean me off it for a couple of years at a doctor's instance, my migraines were so bad I couldn't go to school often until coffee was allowed again. The only meds that help the migraines are flexeril and mobic, I have to be swapped to celebrex preop, never taken it before. Doc was more worried about me overeating @ Breakfast until I gave him my then current habits, my morning coffee, then breakfast, in that order, otherwise I'm prone to a migraine.

    Banging headache

Everyone is different, medically I can't stop caffeine, I have had migraines since I was a baby and caffeine helps keep them away. I explained this to the surgeon, 1 cup of coffee in the morning and I'm good. I don't eat breakfast until an hr after my coffee so I was allowed to keep it in my schedule pre and post op. Breakfast is a 2 egg omelet with tomato onions and peppers, soon to be a 1 egg omelet.

    Getting rid of addictions

Have you thought of vaping? There are very good quality ejuices that are not weird chemicals, and you can get nicotine free. I never smoked save the 2nd hand smoke of my.2 pack a day parents exposed me to as a kid. But I vape, when I'm hungry but shouldn't eat I puff away. Since it's nicotine free I meet the surgeon's guidelines preop. Initial expense might run you $30-50 for a tank, coils, rechargeable battery, and ejuice. I'm no expert in this area, just like what works for me.
  9. Everything with me is complicated. I have cerebral palsy. My right side is 40% paralyzed and my left is 10-20%, as I tell people who learn abt my disability, it's just enough to make life interesting for everyone in my life, and scare the crap of everyone when things go wrong.
  10. I weigh abt 215. I'm 5'6" and am 40 yrs old. I will have the RNY on Feb 2nd. I was so borderline my family doc was unsure I qualified for the surgery, but referred me anyway. My preop is this thurs and I start the preop diet Fri. Other than the support group meetings my husband has yet to really know what I got myself into lol. Yes, he's fully supportive, and he knows for me this is life or death. I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2013 and dieting and working out made me gain weight before I leveled off some 30lbs above where I am now. Yeah, I'm weird, I know. I'm just ready to be done with the process and move on already....I know, I'm impatient heh.
  11. Depends on the hospital, some provide a robe, others do not. I take my own toiletries, hairbrush, combs, toothbrush, a robe, , and slippers, my entertainment this time will likely be my new tablet so I can read and keep facebook friends up to date. I usually include a change of clothes for my husband too, as he tends to spend every waking moment with me in the hospital. I don't know yet if he plans to take all 3 days off work or just my surgery day and discharge day. I hate to say me having surgery is routine, but sadly it is. Don't overpack, but don't take so little you need people to bring stuff from home. I didn't need a heating pad after my gallbladder surgery, but if you have one, keep it handy. Also, I don't know about your hospital, but, check and see when you bring the overnight bag, at checkin, or postop. I generally have my husband leave mine in the car until I'm in my own room postop. Gives him the excuse to go find himself something to eat and take a few to work through his emotions postop. This time, he will not be in the waiting room alone as in the past, friends of ours plan to be with us through the entire preop morning and taking rotating shifts through my hospital stay.

    January RNY Surgery

I also got the call yesterday abt moving my surgery date back, I opted to move it back a week, but might choose 2 weeks once I do my Christmas visits next week. I was a Jan 26th surgery, but now I'm a Feb 2 surgery date. My in laws told us at Thanksgiving we need to make a trip to see them the weekend of Valentine's, but that will not happen now. 1. The surgeon won't clear it, and 2. My husband won't drive me the 4hrs home in an emergency. Otherwise, I'm ready to get this over and done all ready. This is the 3rd time surgery been postponed for me.

    January RNY Surgery

SuzeMuze is right, I've had 3 csections, my gall bladder removed, and other surgeries, nothing is without risk. I'm going against a clock, lose weight before my heart goes boom, so for me, little room to error but I will do the best I can with what I have to work with.

    January RNY Surgery

I was at support group last week, it wasn't the doc that discussed it, rather the supplement rep from Bariatric Advantage. He said teeth and bone density loss are something that can happen 5-10 yrs post op without monitoring your bloodwork every 6 months. Regardless of what supplements used he said the biannual bloodwork is lifelong and needed. He too was a bypass patient and claims to do well 10 yrs postop

    January RNY Surgery

I have surgery Jan 26th, I feel woefully uninformed on how to eat, save 5 shakes a day during preop, and postop., and how much Water is needed, Since this isn't my 1st surgery, I'm not worried about it, (3 csections, gallbladder, and other stuff) I'm worried about aftercare, and the whatifs about not immediately bouncing back, even with my csections it took almost a week to be up and walking well enough to be left alone. Doc seems to think it won't be a huge deal....Does anyone relate to this concern?
  16. I'm 44 days out, I thankfully have my husband's support on the surgery, he'd rather see me not need to have surgery, but I have congestive heart failure and my family doc felt this was a good choice given the fact I also have cerebral palsy, we've discussed this off and on for years, now my insurance finally covers the surgery.
  17. Hi all, I'm 44 days out from surgery, I was approved for surgery over the summer, but life got in the way of me having surgery in the early fall. While I feel comfortable with the doctor, I don't feel as though I'm getting any help in the support group like I expected, there's no help with meal planning and recipes, and stuff like navigating the Protein shakes, and other supplements. The nurse practitioner keeps saying go to pinterest and find recipes, but to me (a computer geek) I find the lack of information there frustrating. I really need recipe books and such as that. I found one but it has too many out of the ordinary ingredients not easily found at the local groceries. Does anyone have books and recipes to recommend? Also, how does one navigate cooking for people with different nutritional needs, I'm obviously transitioning to a higher protein diet over the next 2-3 weeks, my husband will eat mostly whatever I make him, but we have a 23 yr old cousin/roommate that needs a high calorie diet because he can't keep weight on (all his labs are good btw). As many of us on the WL journey are or have disabling conditions, while I can walk, standing has been an issue all my life, (I have cerebral palsy) so I can't be in the kitchen chopping up meat and veggies for long periods is a painful and frustrating task. I prefer simple fare with minimum ingredients and fuss. Can anyone point me where I should go, and assist and support me in the coming weeks? TIA Tricia
