  1. Every doc is different on their procedures regarding this. It's not too much tmi to them. Ask, but the usual is miralax and stool softeners. Dosages can change for postop bariatric patients, so check with your surgeon's office.
  2. I didn't save a couple of pairs of cool looking fancy jeans that were close to my goal size. Reason being I knew sizing had changed in the last 20 yrs and I also knew while I might intend to be a size 5 at 130lbs, my body might not quite agree with the proportions I was familiar with as a skinner person. I turned out to be a size 8 at 140lbs, so not bad. But pants still fit oddly. I still can't find a size that fits correctly. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk
  3. The only person who permanently complained about my surgery of the folks who know (which is nearly everyone) is ironically my mother in law. And the only reason she complained was over us visiting for vacation and my dietary restrictions. She was to put it mildly livid that all the cooking rules for me had to change. And no, I wasn't allowed to cook for myself. She said I should not have had the surgery and mess up the way she does things. She didn't want me getting in my required fluids either, being attached to a glass of water or juice was too much for her OCD self. Eventually it became too much with everything else going on and she decided to stop speaking to us completely. Noone else has reacted so negatively to my surgery or weightloss. But it's not her life, it was a mutual choice my husband and I made together. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk

    Hair Loss

It starts at about 4 mons, recovers at about 10 months, and as long as you get your vitamins, and at least 80grams of protein your scalp will recover. Biotin helps some folks. I didn't notice a difference with me. But there are a small few who maintain thinning hair despite all treatments. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk
  5. You are welcome. It's a lot to process, I'm 2 years out and still learning. I love Bariatric Foodie. Nikki has been a godsend, she keeps it real for us every day people, check her out. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk
  6. I had a hiatal hernia but not gerd and had bypass, only had 100lbs to lose. I have never had any issues postop with losing too much. I'm just not tight on the rules either, I eat a little outside the limits to ensure I don't drop too much. But I will say in the 1st yr that I lost eveything in 8 months. No joke. I did have a small of regain but it's life. I'm not unhappy with it. Just take a deep breath and relax. You can do this. If someone like me with cerebral palsy and was overweight can go through bypass and do it all so can you. Have some faith in yourself. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk

    Haven't pooped

I use miralax, fiber powder, and the stool softener. Miralax and fiber are my daily routine mixed into my morning drinks. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk
  8. You are correct. And I always watch for those too. Surprisingly, I came from surgery feeling better than I had in years. Once I was on my feet I didn't stop for weeks after lol. The 1st week home I walked 7 miles. Just doing stuff like Sam's, Kroger, walmart, etc. I felt that good. My results were not typical. And the surgeon fussed saying I was supposed to be resting. I said I wasn't washing dishes, changing the cat litter, or doing laundry, mopping floors...so I was resting, he gave up lol. Most people don't recover like me. I try to rest up at the hospital, cuz it never exists at home between needy cats and a husband. And I'm the disabled one! Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk
  9. I was borderline gestational diabetic on my youngest child but it was mostly from my weight. Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
  10. I'm told a lot of people with type 2 go into remission postop. Make sure you work with the NUT and dietician so you manage your sugars postop so you don't crash. I became hypoglycemic postop and have to eat some sugar to make sure I don't have crashes. My morning sugar avgs around 60. Doesn't surprise me, before I gained weight I was hypoglycemic, then had kids and gained over 100lbs, fixed the hypoglycemia, but messed up everything else lol. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk
  11. I wish you all the best then. I was able to come off the lasix about 2 weeks preop. I'm 2 years postop and have maintained good heart health since. It was past time for me to lose the weight and get healthy. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk
  12. I have a failing a failing heart valve, and very early CHF that was reversed with gastric bypass. But every case is different. If you have CHF the bariatric surgeon will refer you to a cardiologist for an evaluation of your heart health before deciding to do surgery. Everyone felt my case would benefit from the weight loss. Extreme weightloss can be stressful on the heart so it's not something to take lightly.

    Dental problems after RNY???

I had dental problems prior to RNY so I can't say either way, but I was told to take my vitamins, and better about it now with a pillbox I live with an accept that I have to carry around than one that didn't hold all my pills. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk
  14. Nothing is wrong, everyone goes through a stall. Trust the process. Follow the plan and keep chugging through. You may have a few stalls over the 1st year in fact. Just have faith and hang on. When I had surgery 2 yrs ago I stalled and then lost weight so fast than I had to be told to take my skinner self to go buy some new jeans.... Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk

    So upset!

You have to walk postop. It helps to prevent blood clots. 2. It helps you recover faster. I live in Georgia so I know about the heat and humidity too. It's not a marathon. 15mins an hour every hour. Even if it's inside the house.

    flying after surgery

I say ask the surgeon's office what their policy is regarding that. When I had my surgery planned I learned nearly last minute (arrrgggh) that my mother in law expected us to spend Valentine's weekend at her house. My husband explained that my surgery was 2 weeks prior and I wasn't allowed to travel and there were all these diet restrictions, etc. Didn't care what the excuse was, we had to drive the 200miles each way to do it. I guess my surgeon saw I was less than thrilled about it and decided to take a vacation the week I was scheduled for surgery, forcing me to schedule surgery during a time frame that I wasn't able to travel for any reason. I don't think she has quite forgiven me for not seeing her son when she demanded his presence.

    Joint pain

I have joint pain related to arthritis and cerebral palsy but I was overweight too. Surgery and weightloss gave me mobility back. If you already have knee pain ask if glucosamine supplements are ok to start now, also start doing dead leg lifts to strengthen your quads. Even my more active hubby is having ro do these to strengthen his quads prior to having his knee scoped next month. Our orthopedist joked that I can put him into pt at home since I go in5o therapy for my knees every couple of yrs. Get as active as you can now to help your recovery postop.
  18. I had my RNY last Feb, but I got my gallbladder out Aug 2005. For 4 yrs I suffered from gallstones, until a stone blockage caused my liver to fail. I too had chest pains that seemed to mimic a mild heart attack or anxiety attack. It wasn't until I went into liver failure that a very attentive ER doc realize my gallbladder was sick. A bit over a month later my general surgeon was sitting by my bed in recovery telling me I was lucky to be alive. I had gangrene in my gall bladder and luckily it hadn't spread. Please demand an ultrasound of your abdomen before doing surgery. Ultrasounds can detect gallstones and sludge. Get well soon. Tricia
  19. My hair was shoulder length when I had surgery, now it's just below my ears. I cut my hair shorter at the advice of my stylist to lessen the weight of my hair until it stopped falling out in handfuls. I may grow my hair back out past my shoulders again. Still debating it. Would make my husband happy.
  20. I had my surgery in Feb. I was supposed to have it in Jan but as soon as my surgeon learned of my planned trip to visit the inlaws 2 weeks after surgery he cancelled my surgery. He made it very clear I could visit my inlaws before my surgery or I could wait a month postop. Complications were a concern. However, he was concerned a family member might push me to eat regular food too soon and set back my recovery. Being the holiday season is almost upon us. I would say your surgeon would have similar concerns about traveling, especially flying. My trip was within the same state

    IUDs

Before you get any IUD, study the risks and benefits. You can still get pregnant. I got pregnant on the copper IUD. Was 5mons along when I learned I was pregnant. I was going into year 3 with my IUD too.

    UTI after gastric bypass

I also use the cranberry extract pills even after I get a uti and they help tremendously with discomfort. The utis I get tend to be antibiotic resistant, so I keep the pills just in case. I got a uti 4 mons postop from probably not drinking enough. I did go to the after hrs clinic to be safe because surgery was too recent to not be concerned. Just remember to keep your fluid intakje upo as close to your surgeon's goals as you can.
  23. Not for several weeks at least. Weightloss is not immediate. I think I was about 8weeks postop before I noticed my clothes not fitting properly. But I was a size 18/20 preop.

    Hair lose after RNY

From what I'm told that kind of balding is unusual. I'd talk to the surgeon's office abt it. But only time will heal it.

    Hair lose after RNY

I think we all go through some degree of hair loss. My hair is so thick I'm told that it's not noticeable. But my hair stylist did suggest I go with a shorter hairstyle to help with the hair loss. At my worst I think I lost a handful a day, but my hair is very thick and has to be thinned out with each hair cut. I personally dunno if the biotin helped, I tried it for a month and saw no change in my hair loss.
