I had lost about 50 lbs before co-workers started to notice and comment. Men tend to carry their fat around their organs (or so I understand) and so our weight loss doesn't always show immediately. However, with the clothes starting to get loose and my energy skyrocketing, I was still inspired to continue my journey. There are so many non-scale victories (NSVs) along the way, keep in mind that seeing the thinner you is but one great victory.
Best of luck on your journey!

I couldn't see any changes in my looks for a long time. Although my friends could see the changes when I'd lost my 1st 30lbs. It takes a while for your real image to overcome the mental picture we've built up of ourselves.
And who says it's not okay to become obsessive about the scale. My 1st week post-op, it was a cold and rainy December and I was trapped in the house. So, I needed entertainment.
I'd weigh right when I got up, then before a pee, after a pee, before a poop, after a poop, in the evening and again before bed. I just didn't let myself take it too serious.
I started out with the ground rule that only the 1st weigh in (when I woke up) counted. The rest had too many variables that could affect my weight - intake of solid food, Water, salt content, how much I sweated.... ect. Have a good time with it.

The scale is the devil! A necessary evil at times, but I notice a lot more changes in myself that are completely non scale related. Keep up the great work!

Last week we went wedding dress shopping with my future daughter in law and her mom. At the salon they had mimosas. I was not about to say no! I was 7 weeks out so I slowly sipped it and enjoyed it tremendously! I took my time and sipped it without any problem.

WOW! @ beachgurl84 u sound so disgruntled. My statement was to answer is that why doctor says do not drink. Not to u specifically. And we ALL POST what we think, knowing that none of us are medical professionals. I don't THINK docs are telling their patients not to drink due to brain damage issues. Of course alcohol and sooo many other drugs can cause these and many more sever issues. Do I think that why ur doc says x amount of time and others doc say 6 months, some say 3, some say 6 weeks. No I don't THINK so...
But common sense says we should ALL follow our own doc orders... no one else.
Hope you have calmed down. This forum is to help and everyone provides their opinion. It is NOT to be hostile towards one another since we are all in this together.

I'm having the same issue! Was sleeved on 12/9 and had my first throw up incident. I find the only way I can control the way I eat is if I take a bite then get up and do something in between bites. I know that's totally against what the "proper" eating rules are.

I heard that dr doesn't want you to drink because they don't want you to trade one bad habit for another.also alchol tends to make you graze.thats what happened to my friend a year after her bypass she started drinking a lot after she lost over 100 lbs and also added junk food while she was drinking.needless to say shes a sloppy drunk and gained back more then half her loss and is now going for the lapband.

aclinton16 reacted to Kindle in What's with all the "diet" food?
This is YOUR journey, not your nut's. Has she had WLS? If not, then all she's doing is trying to fit you into one of her textbook molds. Seriously, it's not that hard to figure out what to eat. Read labels, research online and eat what's obviously healthy. Some people can do carbs, some can't. Some need to limit calories, some don't. Some do the whole low fat thing, some dont. Some do sugar free everything, some stick with the real thing. Some rely on Protein Shakes and bars, some dont. There are dozens of "right" ways to be successful. You need to experiment and find what works for YOU. Not only what works for short term weight loss, but also what you can live with for the next 20, 30, 40+ years of maintenance. Personally I spent exactly 15 minutes with a nut to go over the postop recovery diet. Everything else since has been MY choices, and I have been very successful. But this is MY journey, not anyone else's. If you feel you really need the support of a nut, then find one that is more in tune with your wants and needs. After all, they work for you.

Love this thread! I'm with you all. I don't eat diet food either. I eat foods that are yummy and enjoyable. I think that's critical to my long-term success. I do track my foods and make sure to meet Protein goals, keep carbs low, and avoid too many sweets. But yes to healthy fats! Veggies sautéed with olive oil and garlic, fatty delicious salmon, etc. One of my faves, especially after a workout is rotisserie chicken - and yes I eat the skin!
Also - while I track my eating, I don't deny myself a little extra if I'm hungry. I want to maintain a healthy relationship with food, and for me that means not depriving myself.

aclinton16 reacted to oatmealgirl in Any December 30th Sleevers ?!
I was sleeved 12/29, days 1-3 clear liquid, days 4-7 full liquid, day 8-13 purees and day 14 (today!) I started soft foods. I'm feeling great, haven't thrown up. Can drink my two 30g Protein shakes a day and 64oz of Water. This morning I had two eggs muffins that were made with 1/4 cup of egg whites. You know they shrivel up to nothing and I was able to eat almost both of them. So far, my sleeve is such a good girl and she tolerates everything well.
The bad: I'm constipated and I haven't lost a pound since last Monday. I'm 11 pounds down post op but last week, nothing, I even went up two pounds. Now, I wasn't drinking my Water or eating much of anything because I don't have an appetite for anything. I met up with two of my friends, one has had gastric bypass and the other the sleeve surgery. The one that had the sleeve, who is 120 pounds down a year later, said she was the same way the first month. She said she questioned what she had done to her herself! LOL She also said to remember you've been on a liquid diet for three to four weeks and now when you introduce food or even thicker liquid, your body may hold on to it. She also cautioned me that everyone is different and not to compare my weight loss with anyone else's. She said to be patient, drink your water, because that can be the cause of your Constipation, and drink your Protein, as much as you can get in of each as that's what will burn the fat. And then, be patient. The weight loss will come once your body mends from this major surgery and you get in a routine and start to move a little more, she said the weight will start to just fall off.
I wanted to share this with you as so many of us are feeling the same way and it gave me such peace. We must remember that we just had major surgery just 14 short days ago and I'm back at work already!
I've decided to focus on the positives
    1. The surgery is behind me now THANK God!!
    2. I'm walking with no pain in my legs - Thank God!
    3. I'm 28 pounds down (11 post op)
    4. I've lost my fat face and neck
    5. I can see changes in my body already
    6. I have a plan for success
Be blessed and stay focused everyone and best wishes on your journey this week and always!

Well I'm 3 weeks post-op and cannot tell you what i weighed except for the day of surgery and my first doc visit that was on Monday. 24 lbs down. I did not buy a scale and WILL NOT buy a scale. I'm just going to follow the program and I may weigh once per mo at the gym... (maybe) not going to be a slave to the scale.
As been proven if you follow the program it will work. Not going to stress about stalls or any of that.
The 12 pounds you lost is GREAT, because i am heavier than you and my doc said he had only expected me to have lost 15. You are doing wonderful! stick to the plan and stay away from the scale...

aaaah ok, yes i have only eaten 2 eggs thus far on the plan and i have had 1/2 an avocado over the week. I normally eat a flavored oikos greek yogurt. But are u saying to use it as a mayo sub? (the plain?)
Apples, huh didnt think i could eat those yet.... I will double check as i love a nice granny smith... I'd gladly sub that for cracker. I was thinking cracker would help absorb some of that darn acid or gas I'm bothered with daily.
Egg salad yes! ok have only made tuna so far... but egg salad..cool Beans Thanks

@ BLERDgirl Thanks because i was thinking it could be acid or gas. Reason being I was never a "hungry" person pre-op so found it weird I would be post-op when its supposed to do the opposite.
Yes I have never had any Pasta yet, well in my chicken noodle Soup. I use 2 crackers when i eat Peanut Butter. Not a big Pasta eater. Doing tilapia, salmon, and chicken breasts right now. Peanut Butter and alot of refried Beans which is probably keeping me "gassed" up.
But trying to eat the things I like that contain Protein.
Only veggies I have eaten so far is broccoli and green Beans.< /span>
    Any eating suggestions please share.

@@Mavic - You won't hit that number your first week post op. You shouldn't even count calories at that point. Those first 2 - 4 weeks just focus on hitting 60 + gms of Protein and 64+ ounces of fluids. As you move onto purees and soft foods then you can worry about calories per your nutritionist instructions. Those first weeks it's just protein and fluids.

I'm about 3 1/2 weeks post op and just started my soft foods/puréed stage last week. Should I be concerned that I'm only getting about 750-800 calories a day? That doesn't seem like enough. But if I eat any more, I'm miserable. I haven't had a problem getting my Protein or Water, though.
I've also been walking about a mile 4 times a week.
