Well, my surgeon does the leak test while you're still under anesthesia. He says there's no reason to put patients through the discomfort of a leak test while awake. If it's leaking, he wants to know about it before he wakes you up so he can fix it right then. I know that my swollen sleeve can't tolerate food. It tolerate liquids. And yes, I would have signed out against medical advice (AMA). So... East coast best: one incision, solid food in hospital, leak test while awake West coast best: five incisions, liquids for two weeks, leak test while asleep. And yes, I'm astonished. Flabbergasted. Stunned. I wish you well.

I asked because if the hospital told me I couldn't leave without eating tuna or any food, I would have signed out AMA and left anyway. In my experience, that is f-ing crazy. In your experience, it works for you. I, and I'm sure many others, are simply astonished. Your stomach has had no healing time and they're making it do work. Your body doesn't even NEED food at this point, why give it food. It needs fluids. I guess it works for them.

You're eating tuna at 4 days postop?? Wow. Just shows you the vast difference in surgeon's instructions. I'm on Clear liquids for one week, all liquids for one week, purees for two weeks... I don't even get tuna until more than a month out from surgery. What IS your surgeon's eating plan?

Are you taking something for stomach acid? Acid can be mistaken for hunger.

Planned on one night, ended up staying two nights. On day two, got off the IV meds, but started having nausea with Water when I was taking pills (didn't throw up but was spitting in a bucket). The surgeon didn't want me to throw up at home so I agreed to another night. We did stop the water and stuck with watered-down juice, tea and broth and I was fine.

Yeah.... no. If the same thing worked for everyone, then no one would be overweight. Pffffttttttt!!!

I answered earlier but it sounds like you can't see it. I said to ask your daughter what she thinks. Ultimately I would go ahead. What I didn't say, was that I was sleeved on 8/8 and went to work for a few hours on 8/13 (yesterday). Today I went in for about 7 hours. I may continue to leave early for a few days early next week. So, back to work in less than a week. This isn't a surgery that is going to put you on bedrest for six months.

Oh my heavens. Nail polish and makeup? Y'all are some dedicated women! I wore a loose dress, panties, bra and sandals, which I then wore home two days later. I packed my cpap, a pair of loose sweatpants and fresh panties, my phone, charger, ID and a check for my copay. That's it. If I didn't have the cpap, I could have fit everything into a bag smaller than my purse. The hospital provided non-slip socks, cleansing cloths, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, etc. Since I ended up staying an extra night I got to take a real shower on day 2 before I went home. Before that I just cleaned up with their supplies. I didn't need anything for dry mouth because I was drinking all the time.

That's strange. Generally (unless something has changed and in the insurance business, it always does), if it's BCBS and California, it's for federal employees. Otherwise, it's one of two separate companies - Anthem Blue Cross or Blue Shield of California. I have Blue Shield of California, I was all set to give you their info. Sorry.

I would ask your daughter what she thinks. Personally, I would not cancel. Life is always throwing curveballs at you... if you put plans on hold until the curveballs stop, you'll never live your life.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield are two different companies in California. Which one do you have - Blue Cross of California or Blue Shield of California?

Random person: "you don't need surgery" You: "thanks!" or "thanks, I'll tell my surgeon! He'll be so happy to hear it!" or "is that how you say "good luck" in your language?" or "it's so cute that you think I'm asking for your opinion." or, in the case of a medical professional who is not on your bariatric team, "I'd like to speak to your supervisor now."

When I left the hospital, what they emphasized the most was that if I had any questions, any funny feelings, anything at all that was bothering me, I was to call my surgeon's office. If I were in your shoes, I would be calling them. Today.

Call and ask for the Office Manager or Practice Manager at your surgeon's office.

Sore. Tired. Glad to be home. Found and pointed out a grammatical error on a poster that appears in every patient room. Told my surgeon's partner, when he was rounding this morning with a bunch of residents, that I had a complaint. I had their full attention. I told them, "this is a bariatric center of excellence, and you have no bariatric blood pressure cuffs." He says, "yeah we do." The nurses in the doorway say, "no we don't. We have adult "long" which is not the same as adult large." I said, "my blood pressure is normal, around 120 to 130 over 70 to 80 at my own doctor's office with an extra large cuff that covers my entire upper arm. Here, with your 'forearm' cuff, it's 180 over 120, and I have a problem with that." The doctor turned to the other people there, and said, "let's get on that right away." We shall see.
