Don't jump to conclusions. Just drink your dinner and give your tummy time to get used to this. It's OK to be hungry.

Well after three days of eating almost nothing due to my surgery, I've lost a whole pound and a half. Hey I'll take it. Going out for brunch with my bestie today for her birthday followed by watching old movies at her house. I'm still sore and tired, so we're taking it easy. I slept on and off Saturday after no sleep Friday which left me with a Migraine. Today I feel better.

"Chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew ... until it's a paste. ONLY THEN, SWALLOW." - best advice I ever got!

It amazes me that so many get their panties in a wad when they post their opinion on a public discussion board and someone else disagrees or posts a counter opinion.

Seriously! It's OK. In most cases, that counter opinion is just that -- opinion. While I do take issue with those who take themselves very seriously and post their opinion as fact, I am happy to say they are few and far between.

We, for the most part, have different surgeons, different NUTs, different metabolisms, different builds, different backgrounds, different thought processes, different psychosis... (JOKING! Kind of.)
There are very few doctors or therapists here. There are NO experts on YOU here, with the exception of yourself. No one is qualified to give you *absolute do or die* advice. No one is in a position to tell you that you are !!!WRONG!!! or that everyone else is.

Relax. Breathe. Discuss. Share. Vent. Listen. Learn.

We all have our hot buttons, we are human. We all have topics we are passionate about. Debate is fun! It's healthy. It's how we learn and grow. It's a positive form of interaction until someone takes it personally. (I'm guilty at times -- I know it!) As long as it's respectful, there is no name calling involved, and there are no personal attacks, there is nothing wrong with it.

I'll tell you a few things about me that are "wrong" and I don't give a rat's patoot if you want to tell me so:
I drink soda. GASP! Even worse, I drink it through a straw! I would never tell anyone else to do the same. That's between you and your doctor.
I graze all day. My sleeve is small, my restriction is fierce. I graze to keep myself from getting too hungry, eating too fast and then vomiting it all back up.
I eat while I work, when I drive, when I watch TV. I find that when I do this, I get distracted and I eat slower. Weird, I know.
I weigh myself 2-4 times a day. First thing in the morning (usually fully dressed in my PJs as I get up at a ridiculously early time of day to get my kids out of the door.) I weigh myself buck naked after kissing them goodbye when it's time to get myself dressed. I weigh myself before and after a poo (giggle) because I have a middle school boy sense of humor. I weigh myself at night, again buck nekky, just before I get in the shower. I call it my step aerobics. It works for me. I don't get frustrated or upset. I never have, even at my fattest.
I eat real chocolate every day. Just a few Hershey Kisses or a Dove Promise (dark!). It quiets the sweet tooth I didn't have pre-op and keeps me from thinking about sweets all day. It's better to feed the beast a nibble and shut it up. FOR ME.
I eat full fat everything except the things I don't.

I am choosing not to be a WLS advocate. I don't care HOW people think I am losing weight, I don't care who supports me. I don't tell my business to everyone and it's not up to me to save the world from obesity one fatty at a time. I'm not embarrassed, ashamed or a liar.

Your personal experience, your advice from your NUT/surgeon/NP may differ completely. You may be of the opinion that I will be the size of a small whale in 5 year's time. You may think that I am failing myself and my surgery. You may think I am a hypocrite. It's OK.

You do you, I'll do me. We can talk and share and be opinionated together, even when our opinions don't match.

This is a public DISCUSSION board. It's ok to discuss, it's ok to be opinionated. Just expect the same in return.

Before Bariatric Pal, when it was LapBandTalk, there were certainly negative posts, but I tend to think it was more positive/helpful then. There have always been sh** stirrers.....and probably always will be.
I suppose there are people who just like to Troll. "Misery loves company?"
I have seen several post from people who get on here and say "my surgeon doesn't do lapbands anymore". Yet when I call their surgeons number I get told "OF COURSE, we still do lapbands. Ever notice all the "failed lapband" ad banners on the site now from BODEvolve? Maybe they are looking for business? Just a thought.
And you are right, of course we have to change our habits. That is true with any surgery if you want to be successful. I do believe there are complications from every surgery. Some patient caused and some through no fault of the patient. Sometimes bad things just happen to good people. It's life.
Anyone who says the band doesn't work....well, they just haven't had the same results I, and MANY people over the past years have had. Even though not a lot of them come on and post much anymore, there are LOTS of successful banders out there! Don't let the negative nellies get you down.
    Best wishes on your success!

Yep. I just keep thinking what I could do with that extra $300 a month I'm paying. I don't agree with the way it works but that's another issue. I don't get any tax credit or subsidy. I make it a point to go to the Doctor now for every single ache and pain. I feel like I need to get use out of that policy I'm paying for each month. On a side note, I did manage to get my vehicle insurance down from $7900 a year to $1600 and I lowered my deductibles.
It's now the law that we have health insurance, it should also be the law that they cover EVERYTHING not just what they want. Just my opinion.
Also, I checked into buying health insurance for my company and thought it would save me money. Nope. From what I understand, the employer pays a percentage of the claims filed. I'd never open myself up to a liability like that.

    Hi all,
This will be a long post about my journey 6.5 weeks post-op and its a bit tough (like everyone else's!)
So I have not updated in a while due going through a major stall. After surgery my weight went up 5lbs, dropped by 4 then again up by 2. I started feeling very lousy and discouraged. Was blaming it all on the fill... etc (naturally)
But little by little I regained my will, well still trying, Put reminders to eat slow, eat little, drink Water and exercise will beep on my phone FOREVER.
Yes, every 30 minutes I set up my phone to drink Water. Funny when my hubs is at home he counts how many I missed I have 25 oz bottle and know exactly how much I drink. Four of those and I feel accomplished. Three and I am happy too! Two I know I have to get back on track. I can gulp for now as I am only 2cc so pretty loose.
Second, I log my food on MFP for nutrients counting. Started right when I finished cake from my son's 2nd bday... I have now the 2 bad days to compare with... then I threw out all the sweet stuff (except my dark chocolate!). I still cheat a tiny bit (i know, booooooo!) my hubby had to make homemade ice-cream! but I only had a cup about when I had 300 cal def and made him feel so guilty for making ice-cream and not frozen yogurt haha
Plus I walk 1.5 - 2 miles at least 5 days a week. Wish I could do 3 miles, but my little monster gets annoyed. Plus weather in NYC is not so friendly. No excuses, so I did my first day of exercise following an app on iPhone. Just 19 minutes, light one to prove how out of shape I am! Still soar and feels great.
So thats it, eat & count calories, carbs, fat and Protein. Eating about half a cup per meal. Drinking water every 30 minutes, but not 30 min before and after meals and get
    moving!
Oh and I did buy Alex & Natalie's "The big book on lap band" just for support still reading ...
Finally, I am down to 225.8 lbs!
Its a tough journey but I chose the perfect tool.
Thank you for reading and hope to hear some stories too.

An hour once a week with my HOT, HOT, HOT 23-year old trainer keeps me warm and coming back 6 days a week (to impress him, mainly). Yes, I realize I sound like a crazy cougar - believe me, it's all in my head. I'm the model of appropriateness when I'm working out

OK nobody throw tomatoes at me, but even intense house cleaning can be great exercise! Vacuuming, scrubbing the floor, dusting, etc. Moving furniture aside to clean those spots not often cleaned. RAWR! Not the funnest of tasks, but once the weight started coming off I was so full of energy and loved being able to move without something hurting that housework almost seemed fun again...well, almost.

I have not yet had a stall, but I'm sure it's coming. My surgery date was Dec.22 and I am hearing some of those people stalling already. I was told to make sure to drink the liquids, exercise and take measurements becz it will not always come off in weight we see.

I never weighed that much so the only stall I ever knew about was a month long around 2-3 months postop. If you don't want to stall, then follow your plan and don't step on the scale. I "avoided" the 3 week stall by not weighing between 2 and 6 weeks postop.

Great news that there is another option to help people I this struggle. Because of its less invasive nature perhaps someday the threshold will get lowered to BMI of 30 and the comorbidity at 35 (and then 30) taken away. 8.5% difference is much better but once 35-45 BMI may need actual WLS to get more significant results. I am not sure if this would have been enough for me as I never needed to be hungry to eat. But perhaps it makes people like I was just after sleeve when I never thought about food at all not just the lack of hunger. (Unfortunate that was temporary for me!)
In any case glad there's another option and it will be out there for those struggling.
