  1. I have just been chewing my mess post op because that is what my recovery room nurse got me to do. They taste disgusting! !!! I have water on hand and I rinse my mouth with mouth wash afterwords. It is short lived but tastes really bad:( Oh well I just have to suck it up :b
  2. I felt like I was drunk! The world was spinning for the first 24 hrs. It was such a strange feeling but it went away. I found I had a lot of chest and left sided shoulder pain. My dr said this would happen because he repaired a hiatus hernia (which is not uncommom). A hiatus hernia is when a part of your stomach has come up through your diaphragm. This has to be fixed because this is where the band goes. Often times this is the cause of acid reflux if you have been suffering from it. My throat was also very scratchy from the tube they put down my throat. All of this is minimal compaired to how good I will feel in a few days and start losing more weight:)!!!!

Lap Band Post Op Day 8

Remember the importance of sticking to your Dr's recommendations. My dr advised me to take it slow so scar tissue can form around the band so it doesn't slip. We wouldn't want that now would we:(? Just keep your eye on the prize and remember it will get better. I guess this is easy for me to say because I am only on day 1 post op. Maybe my attitude will change once I get to the pureed stage.

    Pre-op diet started today 1/1/15

D steelers, where are you having your surgery? You sound like you are on the exact same pre op diet as me. I always had a salad for lunch with a good selection of low GI veggies. The problem I had is that I have to have some kind of dressing on my salad in order to eat it. This is the recipe I used. 2 tbs apple cider vinegar 1 tbs dijon mustard 1 tsp lemon zest 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning Pepper to taste 1 garlic clove Stevia to taste Blend together in a blender or magic bullet. I would make a big batch of this and use it to season other things like stir fry (without the oil). I also went on pinterest and found a recipe for cauliflower rice. You can Google it. It's pretty much just cauliflower that has been finely chopped in a food processor and baked in the oven. I was amazed how creative I got and had some pretty decent meals. Oh well that part is over because my surgery is tomorrow. Can't wait to see you on the other side too:)!

Day 6 of my Liquid Diet

I felt the same way. I am on day 13 of 14 days and I am amazed how well I have tolerated the "diet". Why have I not been able to be so dedicated in the past? I guess when you want something bad enough you will do anything it takes.

    Before and After

    AWSOME! So inspiring
  10. JoJoNYC I couldn't agree with you more. At first I was a little disappointed that I was going to miss some of the holiday festivities. But then I thought the holidays should be about family and friends not what there is to eat. I definitely have to retain my way of thinking about social get together.
  11. TheProfessor, you're right the shakes really aren't that bad. I can't wait to meet Dr C in person, I have only spoke to him by phone. I am a nurse and I deal with a lot of Dr's. I can just tell that Dr C has a good personality and has a passion for what he does. Your post has got me even more excited again:). Thanks for the inspiring words.

    Pre-op diet started today 1/1/15

I am a week into my pre op diet and I am surprised how well my head is cooperating. I have been keeping busy and drinking A LOT of tea and water. Stay focused and keep your eye on the prize. I have lost 10 lb and I find my jeans aren't as tight (and I can breathe easier ). Just keep positive. This is only the beginning and I am sure there will be a few more hiccups along the way.
  13. My pre op diet is 2 weeks of medical shakes 3x per day and 250cal of green veg that grow above ground (no carrots, potatoes and things like that). No fruit, meat, dairy, sugar, caffeine. I have ate a lot of salads and a lot of broccoli and cauliflower for dinner. I have turned to pinterest to spice things up. I love to cook so it has been kinda fun finding new ways to prepare food. I actually made "rice" out of cauliflower and it didn't taste that bad:) You should stick to whatever your Dr recommended.
  14. Shannon2015, I am getting excited too as my surgery is scheduled for January 8th:) This is going to be a great year. I love reading everyone's encouraging words on this site. I try to stay positive and take one day at a time. I have also distracted myself with finding some new recipes on pinterest that will work with my new way of eating. I am so excited for you too. Keep in touch.

5 days and counting! Project FUTURA

Hey Lawrence, As for crushing your meds, I use a hammer in a ziploc bag. I work as a nurse and I have to crush a lot of pills sometimes. Pill crushers work to a point but a hammer works better. I mix them with a little applesauce to make them a bit more palatable. Hope this helps.
  17. lol It just goes to show you that people really do treat you different when you are skinny.

    January 2015 Banders

I am having the lap band procedure. In Canada (Ontario ) the procedure is not covered so I am paying out of pocket. It is a big investment so I am keeping positive and focusing on my skinny (smaller) future:)

    January 2015 Banders

My date is set for January 8th. I am excited and worried at the same time. I start my pre op diet on boxing day. This is long over due and I can't wait to start my journey. I am worried about sticking to the plan and that my brain won't coopetate;). Count down is on!
  20. MarieMarie where in Canada did you get your surgery done? I am getting mine done in Mississauga with Dr Coburn.
  21. Do any of you live in Canada? I am already paying out of pocket $16000 to have lap band surgery. I am concerned that if there is any revisions needed I will have to pay more. Well I know bypass is covered by OHIO. I was just wondering about the process. Well I guess I have to have my surgery first (Jan 8th) and see how it goes. Best of luck to everyone on their journey.
