  1. When I joined, I was told by my surgeon that bariatric pal was a good place to go for support. I am extremely disappointed in how people are talked by by some members for simply being human and feeling free to ask. I am aghast the attreatment and shaming this person received, esp when her response was they "have always been weak and have no life" you people should be ashamed. And if you are not a support group...what are you?. I have gotten some good advise on this site, but yesterday's action sealed it for me. No thank you.

  2. I understand. I'm 61, work full time and have spinal stenosis, bulging disks and bad knees. It's really hard to feel like exercising after a 12 hour shift which is what I work. My back is usually killing me by then. I do walk a lot most nights at work. I bought a pedometer and found that I average 3-4 miles a night when working. I just have to call it good at that. On my off days i try to get out and walk a couple if miles knees and back permitting. I tried Water aerobics...can't do them, too much twisting and bending for my spinal stenosis. Better for the knees though.

  3. I'm also a night shift nurse. For me it's always a problem getting the Protein and Water. I keep Protein Shakes in the fridge in the break room as well as Protein Bars. But I am the "float nurse" many nights that I work, which means I am all over the hospital. I transport critical care patients that cannot go for tests without a nurse or admissions from the ER. I can't keep food or water on my person.....it's a constant battle. I'm 8 weeks out and seem to be doing ok. But so far I have never once gotten 64 oz water in a day. I keep trying.

  4. Hang in there. I'm 6 weeks out and still fight to get the Water and Protein. I had a terrible time with the Vitamins the first few weeks, they turned my stomach terribly. It's better now. I have not found i have developed any food issues. I'm pretty much on a regular diet now. Small amts of course . It will all be worth it. I dropped 22 pounds the first 4 weeks and nothing the past two. My nutritionist said not to look at the short term or you will get discouraged, there are going to be upset and downs. But as long as the trend is down you're fine. I wish you Good luck and a great recovery.

  5. I was told 100 gm protein....seems to be a wide range out there. My diet counselor (pre op) told me to always look at carbs like the bad boy you always wanted in high school. You wanted him so bad at the time but knew he was bad for you in the long run. Lol. Post op....don't worry about carbs " for a while" , but that was more of a "don't eat them" Because getting the Protein would self limit everything else at first just because of the portion size you can tolerate.

  6. It will be three weeks for me on tuesday. My surgery was 12/15. I'm still sore, going back to work on friday. Having a terrible time getting all my requirements. They say eat only when you're hungry, but then I'd never come close to my Protein requirement, can't get half the Water in between not eating before. During or after eating, and the Vitamins make me nauseous every time. I sure hope it gets better.
