Roll call: 3 more sleeps to surgery. A bit more about me...I'm 44 and have struggled with weight all my life. My grade 1 school report said '... Has a tendency to put on weight' and so the roller coaster began. I work part time and am mum to Miss Eight and Miss Five. This is the start of my new life.
That a horrible thing to put in a childs report card! Good luck with the upcoming surgery, I hope for you to have a safe surgery and a smooth recovery

Hang in there! Not long to go now! I start my liquid tomorrow, so I'm here if you want a support buddy

I'm needing to do 4 weeks of Optifast. It's a little unusual that your not required to do the liquid diet, not unheard of but a little odd, the point of the preop liquid diet is to make surgery safer by shrinking the liver so the surgeon can have better visibility and access to the stomachHi Everyone! I'm booked in for the 11th December in Brisbane.
Just wondering did your doctor or dietician tell you to start the pre-op diet? My doctor hasn't mentioned it and my first appointment with the dietician is just over a week before the surgery. Sort of hoping I won't have to do it at all! I've tried shake diets so many times that the thought is gag inducing haha

4 weeks of pre-op is harsh! At least with the heat turning up you can have chilled shakes. Worst case, blend them with ice and make a smoothie Have a last glass of champagne for me on Thursday!I got my date today! I'm booked in for the 20th of November. I can't wait. I am needing to do 4 weeks of optimist, so I start that this Friday, anyone else around this date?
Yeah 4 weeks is a long time! Luckily my dietician modified it a little and wants me to add 100g lean Protein and lots off low starch vegies, so I can still have a small meal which I think will keep me a little sane! And great tip with blending them with ice, perfect for the hot days that are bound to be coming up. And I will definately have a glass of champagne for you on Thursday, and maybe a margarita for me!

What is cordial?
Hey! I don't mind you joining in! Cordial is a flavouring to add to Water, usually very sweet and sugary unless you get the sugar free

We are doing it through our super because i dont have private cover and hubby's one only partially covers him. Our surgery is on 5th December this year
Using your super is a great option, especially if you don't want to or can't wait to be covered. December 5th is only 2 weeks after me, it'll fly by in no time. It's great that you and your husband are doing this together, it will be such a great support for each other. Good luck to you both

Im just starting this journey too do u mind me asking why it took nearly a year I want it now lol
I had to wait a year to be covered by my health fund, in Australia a lot of people don't bother with health insurance because we are very lucky and it's not really necessary. But for things like the sleeve its best to have insurance because they then pay for the bulk of surgery, but you need to wait a year for your health fund to cover pre existing conditions, which obesity is classified as. Even though I had to wait a year to be covered, I am still grateful, I didn't have to go through all the testing, supervised dieting and evaluations like people in the US need to to get covered for the surgery.
You will be surprised how quickly the time will go, looking back the year flew by for the most part. Good luck

I too am pre-op, I once had a dementia patient rub my belly and ask when the twins are due. I couldn't really get angry with her considering she had dementia

Vitamin D deficiency also causes leg cramps.
This is definitely true, I was getting terrible leg cramps all the time, then I started taking a vitamin D supplement, and they have improved so much. I still get them from time to time but no where near as frequent as I used to

I simply said to my GP that I am wanting to explore the option of getting the gastric sleeve, and if he knew any surgeons that he would recommend, my GP gave me some basic info on the sleeve and wrote me a referral for my surgeon, he was more than happy to help me
