    Anyone from Sydney/NSW?

I'm from South-west Sydney. I'm pre-op, not having surgery until late October/ early November, needing to wait for my 12 month waiting period with my health insurance to be up. Any advice from anyone been through or going through surgery would be great! Glad to find some Aussies here!
  2. Me too! It is going to be such a long year! At least u have now found you to countdown with!
  3. Not until late October or early November for me, I need to wait for my 12 month waiting period with my insurance to be up

    Facial Hair

Thanks for all your help, I'll take it all on board. I too have seen that some woman have increased facial hair post sleeve (it dos'nt seem right that you can lose head hair and have increased facial hair growth!) I have been on meds in the past for tis issue and would really like to not have to take them. I have have tried electrolysis with minimal result and was told because it was hormonal electrolysis would have minimal effect.
  5. Hey all! I'm a nurse in Sydney, Australia. I am pre op at this stage looking to get done in October 2015. I currently work in a sub-acute ward with mainly aged care patients. However I would love to be working in acute care nursing again but have lost the confidence that I'd have the energy and the drive needed for this area. I am hoping that after getting sleeved and I begin losing I'll get it back and be able to work in acute wards again.
  6. Some pretty darn good answers to questions that people should have the common sense (and decency) not ask, thanks!
  7. That's a fantastic result! Well done!

Ulcers found in my endoscopy pre-surgery

Is this about a hernia, if so major weight off my mind, I have not had any pre op tests yet but that is something I've been worried about, that if I do have a hernia it will be a separate operation fixing it

Ulcers found in my endoscopy pre-surgery

I forgot to ask my surgeon when I met him, if I'm found to have a hernia will it be removed at the same time as sleeving and not as a separate surgery? Is this right?

    Cute workout clothes?

In Australia we have a shop Lorna Jane (not sure if it's from US) that make awesome work out clothes, unfortunately they don't do plus size and I'm pre-op for a few months but I can't wait to shop there

    Bmi borderline

Hi Mary! I'm from around Sydney too, just curious who your surgeon is and where you found them? And have you already had your surgery or are you still waiting for it?

  13. I'm a fair few months away from getting my sleeve (October 2015) and was thinking of possibly getting a nutribullet for the post op fluid phase, that way I can have vegetables and raw nuts for protein but in complete fluid form and was just wondering did anybody else use this for that phase?

    Looking for a picture

That's a really awesome guide to make sure you a drinking enough fluids through out the day with out over doing it
  15. Thanks for your post, like I said I'm still quite away from surgery and am needing a lot of advice, yours made a lot of sense to me with points that I will bring up to the nutritionist
  16. That's great to hear that everything has been cleared and you've got the go ahead for April. I think a lot of people tend to wish they had done it sooner, myself included. Winter time can be tough, but I hate summer the size I am, I get so hot and uncomfortable, I love the idea of going to the beach but I usually end up spending the summer holed up inside with the air conditioner going.
  17. I think nearly everything that's already been mentioned I won't miss. The looks from strangers, worrying about fitting into chairs, bumping into things, sweating and shortness of breath, being extremly limited in clothing choice, the list is endless! The list of things I'm looking forward to is just as long I think, I have always wanted to skydive, even something as simple as going shopping with my mum and sister and being able to try things in "normal" clothing shops, going out dancing with my friends in a gorgeous dress and not feeling self conscience and judged. The number one thing I am looking forward to the most is being able to live a long and healthy life.
  18. That is a really hard position for you to be in, we need all the support we can get during this period. I so far have only told my mum, and she has been my rock, coming to all my appointments with me and planning for me and my puppy stay with her while I recover. I agree with the some of the other people saying that if she is staying with you she should be supportive and help you, and not telling her until after you've had the surgery could be a good idea, she then really had no choice because it's all done. I do love the "New Years resolution" explanation idea, that made my smile. Hopefully when it comes down to it she will support you because let's face it, you are doing something to improve your health and help you live a long and healthy life and she can't be upset with that
  19. Hi! It's great to see other people like me just starting out with this journey. I'm very much like you, and for a very long time did not want to get surgery and thinking that I could do it all by myself, and I am able to lose weight by myself, but only so much before I slip up and the vicious cycle starts over. I had been thinking about for awhile and then I had a couple of health scares which were the final push. I need to wait until the end of October 2015 for my insurance to cover the surgery and then from what my surgeon said it'll only be a couple of month doing appointments before the surgery. It's fantastic that hopefully you can have yours done at the beginning of next year! That's great! Good luck to anyone with surgery coming up soon or anyone else just starting out!

That sucks! I hav'nt got mine done yet and I've been wondering about the pain. I too have heard that some people are up walking around straight away. Just wandering, what pain medications have they given you for the pain?

    Love this forum!

Hi! I've only just joined this forum and its such a fantastic support system! I too am just starting this journey, I've met with a surgeon who I liked instantly, but I need to wait until end of October 15 before my insurance waiting period is over and they'll cover it, so I go back to the surgeon early September for all the pre-op appointments and tests and all that. So I completely understand the impatience of just wanting to get it done now! On the upside of that I guess is that can do our research here and learn from people who have had the surgery and pick their brains. Good luck to you!
