Proud2BMe got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Have You Convinced Anyone Else To Have The Surgery?
So far I've only talked to two people with regard to recommending the surgery to them. One person decided to go for it and had the surgery. The other person had the opposite reaction and instead of viewing it as a potential blessing went on this high strung emotional tirade against me on Facebook claiming I called him "fat" and was rude. He went on to state that it's society that needed to change and not him. In reality I merely told him that I believed that weight loss surgery would do wonders for his self-esteem and that it would greatly improve his health. I then went on to explain how I've lost over a 130 lbs from the gastric sleeve. It's funny how people react to things. The first person I talked to realized that this was the answer to her problem while the second guy is a drama queen who believes that society needs to change to accept him.

They initiated the conversation by commenting on my weight loss. With the man, I really got sick of him bitching about his health problems and why he can't ever find a mate. He's the type that constantly chases after people who are like a perfect 10 but can't understand why they don't want to be with a morbidly obese person. I'm never judgemental with weight issues and I merely suggested that I know he has low self esteem and that the surgery would help him with both his self esteem and health issues.

Proud2BMe got a reaction from BLERDgirl in Can this really happen?
Technically no. The surgery permanently shrinks the stomach. However, what happens is that over time if you constantly stuff more food than you should into your sleeve that your body will adapt to it and that will become your new "set point" for when you feel full. Thus you will be training yourself to eat more. Also, food will spend less time in your sleeve which means you will not feel full for long and will quickly want to eat again. So eat slowly and stop as soon as you feel the first signs of feeling full.

Proud2BMe got a reaction from Fatty McFatster in Who tried to talk you out of Mexico?
Everyone I told was dead set against it and many people told me that I would die. One person even cried. However, I ignored them all because their opinions were uneducated. None of them had done any research on this and were just acting off of the b.s fear about what Mexico is like.
I didn't enter into this lightly. I took my time and researched everything extensively. As a result my stay in Mexico was wonderful. My surgeon was awesome. I had no real pain and zero complications. I would go back in a heart beat.

I have a friend that is easily 350lbs, and has been obese her entire life (she's 49).
She has had nothing but feet, ankle and knee problems lately, and is going to under go a whole knee replacement next week.
She knows I had the surgery, and has seen my success on Facebook. I struggled for a while whether to ask her if she ever considered it, as losing weight would eliminate or at least decrease most of the health issues she has. In the end, I decided against it. I'm sure she sees how it's helped me, and is able to make her own conclusions about WLS and ultimately decide for herself whether it's right for her.
I just always find it ironic that some people who have difficulty with the "major surgery" and "drastic" aspect of WLS end up needing drastic surgeries to repair the damage to their bodies that being obese caused.

Proud2BMe got a reaction from thenewandbestme in HUNGER PROBLEM POST-OP
Hunger usually starts to return around the 6 month mark and increases with time. It's okay. Regain has always been known about so you are not alone. Most patients will regain some weight by the second year. Two years out the weight loss phase is considered to be over with and any more weight you have to lose will have to be lost in the old fashioned way. That's why it's so important to try to lose as much weight as possible in the first two years.

Proud2BMe got a reaction from wannaBthinsoon in Smoking....need advice please!
This is the end of 2015. E-cigarettes have been out since 2007. There is no excuse for you or anyone else to continue to smoke cigarettes. You are addicted to nicotine and not cancer causing tar.
I smoked a pack and a half a day for 20 years. Often when I went out or if I was stressed I would smoke 2-3 packs a day. I quit smoking 2 years ago and transitioned to e-cigs. When I had my gastric sleeve surgery they did x-rays of my lungs. I assumed everything would be fine as I felt fine and it had been 2 years since I last smoked a cigarette. Instead, the doctors took me aside and explained that all of the white, whispy stuff in my lungs was damage from smoking. I was shocked by how much damage there was was as I felt fine. But that's the nature of smoking. You will feel absolutely fine literally up until the very day that health problems develop. Unfortunately, many people who wait until health problems develop in order to quit do not get a second chance at life.
With e-cigs you get the same feeling and routine of smoking, the same inhaling of a something that looks like smoke, and the same nicotine. You stop having the "smoker's cough". You no longer have to clear your throat 50 million times a day. You don't stink like an ashtray. Your fingers and teeth don't get stained. You don't have to go outside during the freezing cold, blazing heat our pouring rain. So unless you absolutely just love the taste of cancer causing tar, by all means continue to smoke. If not, then look into transitioning to e-cigs.
    Rant over.

Thank you for making me scream out loud...Have to say you beat me hands down.
I suppose misery loves company, in the sence I thought I was the only one or pretty close to the only one being BAD.
Week before Halloween was eating sugar with no boundaries, then 10/30 got back under control and started back on this web site. Makes me realize what a truly inspirational and much needed site this is. Every thing from a to z.
Found in the throws of indulgence just give the stuff away or throw it out,
it's an immediate way to address but not the underlying reason WHY (?) That is what I deal with now.
Otherwise, I might beat you next time... plus 2 pears.
So, thanks to everyone that chips in with thoughts, idea's and advice
because we are out here listening…and re-learning.
If you feel it coming on again feel free to contact me, we can help each other. Hope to hear from you.
Cause we are in it to win it.

Lordy - I could've written this post! I am throwing away the hidden stash of Halloween junk from the desk drawer as we speak. I am going to detox from my weeks of sugar blasting starting now. It's hard to kick this addiction - I do really well for a time but then it just takes a little bit of the sweet stuff to throw me into a tailspin and I'm on a sugar binge for days. But this time I'll be honest I've been eating so much crap for the last couple months - it's no wonder I can't get the last 13 pounds off! Even exercising it isn't budging! So I am cutting the sugar out too! Back to basics! Thanks for giving me boost to get back in the swing of things! (and for giving me a giggle too)

Gynocomastia surgery is just to get rid of man boobs. An upper body lift will of course be more money. I plan on getting gynocomastia surgery and a Tummy Tuck which should run about 8-10 thousand depending upon your area. You can get free consultations with surgeons. So my best advice is to begin saving up and once you have around 8 thousand or so go ahead and start to make free consultation appointments with surgeons in your area.

Proud2BMe got a reaction from Dub in Pre op diet...
The pre-op diet is actually easy to follow if you stick with it for the first 2-3 days. For those first few days you will have carb withdrawal. Your brain prefers carbs for fuel. So when you go without it you experience headaches, moodiness, and feelings of faint. However, these pass within about 2-3 days as your body switches over into burning fat and Protein for fuel.
Yes, some doctors do not make their patients do the pre-op diet but I can assure you that those patients who do the diet end up losing far more than patients who do not. For example, I lost 25lbs just in the 2 week pre-op diet.

Gall bladder issues are really gall stone issues, which form during the rapid weight loss phase when patients are no longer eating high fat foods. The bile builds up in the gall bladder and solidifies into gall stones. However, this process can also occur at other times so it is possible to get gall stones after the initial rapid weigh loss phase. Gall stones are quite painful. If you are given an option of removing your gall bladder at the time of surgery take advantage of it. You don't need your gall bladder to survive. All it does is to store excess bile. Without it the bile is just dumped into the colon.
