  1. Go back on the pre-op liquid diet for a couple of weeks until you begin losing again. Once your weight loss resumes then keep a very close eye on your carbs.
  2. I had a prior history of gall stones so I had my gall bladder removed at the same time as the sleeve. I would recommend others do that as well. You really don't need your gall bladder.
  3. Much of the info we receive is well meant but wrong. Straws are perfectly fine and it's up to you if you want to use them. I was also told never to drink carbonated beverages again because it will stretch my stomach and cause me gas and pain. I learned just from trying it that it's not the case at all. The only drawback is that I burp more when drinking them. So the rule of thumb is to try to experiment and see if it's okay for you or not.
  4. Any hair loss from weight loss surgery is temporary. It will eventually grow back. There's really nothing you can do to stop it. Despite what people think, hair loss from weight loss surgery is not from not getting enough Protein. It's actually related to hormonal changes the body goes through when there is a massive or sudden loss of weight.
  5. I didn't notice any swelling. I also didn't have gas pains either. To me it only felt like someone had punched me in the stomach, so very tolerable. However, each person is different. For me, the worst pain was when they removed the drain. My entire abdomen cramped up something fierce.
  6. V8 is a wonderful suggestion. I love baby carrots, baby corn, snow peas and cherry/grape tomatoes. I often will buy a small veggie tray and snack on it throughout the week. If you are drinking Protein shakes you don't need to worry much about protein. A couple of the shakes I drink give me like 60 grams of protein. So when I eat I can eat veggies if I choose. However, I avoid fruit as it's too sweet for me.
  7. I would say just the opposite. Limiting your calories will slow your metabolism. You need to become more active and exercise and move more. Our bodies adapt to our situation. For the 15lbs gain, I would go back to the pre-op diet for 2 weeks and see if I could drop that quickly and then work on maintaining the weight loss.
  8. Stay positive. Use this time to lose more weight. If you stay on your pre-op diet for the next 6 weeks you might just surprise yourself by how much weight you lose.
  9. I don't know how I liked this or how I can take my like back but I truly didn't mean to like what you said and actually am very disgusted at what you said and will pray for you and I hope one day nothing happens to you or any of your kin and someone questions your authenticity , you are the reason many people that are sexually abused refrain from telling others, humble yourself There's nothing wrong with what I wrote. This thread is full of shrill harpies just waiting to attack anyone over the slightest of perceived offenses. A normal, sane person would know that my comment was showing compassion while at the same time saying I don't know what happened. Because the truth is that none of us knows what happened. I hope this woman is able to get the law involved. Otherwise, you and others here need to think twice before you start attacking people. clearly you are delusional, I pray for you last night and will do so again tonight I'm not keen on individuals thinking they need to pray for me over a normal reply that any sane person would make. The number of drama queens in this thread is growing by the minute.
  10. The belief that the stomach stretches after surgery is a myth. The reality is that with time your body adapts to the surgery by keeping food in the stomach for less and less time. I was watching a video a doctor made where he said that by year five most patients can eat a normal size plate of food.
  11. Try logging your carbs. You may be surprised by how much you are truly eating. The pre-op diet is not designed for long-term use. It's just to jump start the weight loss process and shrink the liver. Since your didn't do a pre-op diet you missed out on this. Also, note that your exercise and activity level also plays a part. (Note: My doctor said no more than 50 grams of carbs on the pre-op diet.)
  12. Try speaking with your doctor. Most likely you are consuming too many carbs. Did you go on the pre-op diet and if so, for how long? From what I can tell the patients who lost the most weight went on a 2 week pre-op diet before surgery. I lost 25 lbs just on my pre-op diet alone. Now, when I hit a weight loss stall I immediately go back on the pre-op liquid diet until the pounds start dropping again.
  13. Did you do a pre-op diet? It seems the patients who have lost the most weight are the one who did a 2 week pre-op diet. How many carbs are you eating in a day? Eating too many carbs will prevent you from losing weight.
  14. For me, it's the memory of being skinny. Back in 1997 I was at my goal weight and I loved it. So to remind myself of what I'm fighting for I'm constantly remembering what life was like being skinny back then.
  15. The liver-reduction diet is the same as the pre-op diet. So your doctor advised you to start now on the pre-op diet in order to lose 40 lbs before surgery. Many doctors won't take patients over 400 lbs in the U.S. So this may be a reason why. Or it could be he/she is testing you to determine if you are serious about losing weight. You would be surprised by how many people aren't serious and can't even lose 10 lbs before surgery.
  16. What does full feel like post-surgery? IT HURTS! I always try to stop eating at the very first signs of discomfort. If I continue eating until I'm full then I have to just sit there and wait until I digest it all. If I get up or do stuff I feel really bad.
  17. No. My pre-op diet was 2 weeks. The first week I had to drink a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch. For dinner I was allowed lean meat like chicken or fish on a bed of lettuce or salad greens. I could also supplement this with broth and sugar free Jello. In week two I could only drink liquids. I could have 3 Protein shakes a day and as much broth or sugar free jello as I wanted. I was also able to eat sugar free popsicles both weeks as well. The Atkins diet is high fat which doesn't work with the pre-op diet.
  18. My highest was a BMI of 50 and a weight of 370 lbs. I lost 115 lbs since May 12, about 4 months. I still got about 85 lbs or so to go until I reach my goal. I would advise to talk to your doctor and see what surgery would be best for you.

  20. @@Proud2BMe If true, this story is very tragic. I had my operation there and I enjoyed it and thought it was wonderful. If true?? Really? Why would you question someone you don't even know when reporting something this tragic? I mean even if for some strange reason you are choosing not to believe her, why not just move on to another post? This is the exact reason people who are sexually abused do not report it. SMH.... ........... Stop with the stupid drama and b.s. There's nothing wrong with what I posted. Unlike you I was showing compassion at the same time as saying that I don't know what actually happened. It's people like you that are ruining this thread.
  21. 5 shakes plus 72 oz of Water is too much in my opinion. Shakes count as liquid intake so you are drinking a lot! As for myself, I only had 3 Protein shakes a day and liquid when I felt like it.
  22. If true, this story is very tragic. I had my operation there and I enjoyed it and thought it was wonderful.
  23. Yes, too much protein is dangerous. It can damage your kidneys. Talk with your doctor on how much you should aim for.
  24. About 3 months. For the longest time I had to take baby sips. I was actually surprised when I got to the point where I could drink as normal.
