  1. I finally got a surgery date on July 17! I'm super excited the only thing is that one week after my surgery I need to go to my school to take a final in the lab. Do you think I will be okay to drive and walk up 4 flights of stairs plus sit for an hour or so and take this test comfortably? This is my very first college coarse so this is all very new to me. I guess my other options would be delay my surgery a week (which sounds awful after waiting so long) or contact the instructor and see what she say. What do you guys think?
  2. I did have a c-section when I had my daughter. I had bad neasea after that surgery but I remember going to several doctors appointments and a 3 hour newborn photo shoot that first week. I had to carry that big car seat and baby up stairs. Is sleeve anything like a c-section do you or anyone else know?
  3. So this is for people who are probably a little ways out from surgery. I myself am on track to be sleeved in July. Just wanted to know from people who have been where I am, knowing what you know now, what would you do differently? I heard some people wish they would have had one more trip to the buffet or another soda. Also, someone I met said she wish she would have used scar cream from the start for her scars. I'd really love the advice. Thanks!
  4. See @@Elode that's what I thought! That I'd overtime be able to eat whatever I wanted just make healthier choices. Leave off the bun, get grilled instead of fried, less carbs, ect. But when I went to a pre-op class the other day they were saying that fried food, sweets, and fruit juice all caused dumping. And that they recommend we never eat those again! I almost died right! See I think the problem is that the doctors are telling me that it's going to be hard enough getting the Water and Protein everyday that I'm not going to have room for much else and I never supposed to eat anything with too much fat or carbs because it would cause dumping. Just eating 10 oz of protein a day and drinking 64 oz of water for the rest of my life sounds miserable! This is what made me so scared that maybe I can't do this or it's not right for me.
  5. I'm sorry I should have been a little more specific. I have the severe peanut allergy (anaphylactic), all other nuts came up positive in the allergy test so I avoid those as well. I'm sensitive to dairy, and also allergic to all seafood/fish. I know I'm that girl that should be in a bubble lol. I wanted to find a protein bar so that when I'm on the go and need something fast I can just get it out of my purse. I'm looking at starting school in the fall and I will have clinicals where I may not have a ton of time to go find something healthy and high in protein. I do like sunflower seeds so I will keep in mind!
  6. My EDG has been scheduled the same day as my anniversary. They told me to be at the hospital at 6:45 in the morning and I'd be there about 2 and a half hours. My plan was to come home and take a nap, get ready, then go to a movie at 3 followed by dinner. Can anyone tell me if you think I would feel up to this or if I will probably not feel like doing anything that day? I really hate to cancel but I don't want to ruin the evening. I bought my tickets to the movie yesterday and they called today to scheduled my EDG appointment and of coarse it falls on the same day!
  7. I am on track to have VGS surgery in April. I had an appointment yesterday with a nutritionist and she told me that my surgeon doesn't recommend fruit juices due to dumping. I love having a fruit smoothie each morning. I asked her about smoothies and she seemed hesitant. Has anyone had any problems with dumping because of fruit juice or smoothies? I know everyone is different but I don't think I've ever head or read anything about juice not being tolerated. I'm really bummed out cause I got a Ninja for Christmas and was really thinking it'd be a life saver after my surgery. Besides juice does anyone have anything they know causes them to dump or that just doesn't agree with their stomach? We also talked about Vitamins and I found one that is reasonably priced and covers all there requirements but Calcium, but I'm struggling to find a calcium. They want me to have at least 1200-1500 units of calcium circulate. The highest calcium citrate I can find is 500 mg which means I'd need 3 a day plus my multi. Not to mention they are pretty expensive! I know the multi has to be 2 hours the calcium but can all 3 calcium chews be taken at once? Basically I'm trying to not have to take pills all day long and also be economical if possible. I have found some pills that claim to have 600 mg of calcium in them but they don't specify what type of calcium. Does it really matter if it's citrate or carbonate? Thanks for any help you can provide! You guys help me more then you could ever know and if it wasn't for the community I wouldn't have decided to make this step toward better health.
  8. With my smoothies I use frozen fruit, half cup low or no fat Greek yogurt, half water half juice, and ice. Then I add a scoop of protein powder so my protein for just one smoothie is 35 grams! I figured that when I got to week 3-4 this would be and easy way to have something I love and get my protein at the same time. I could just use water or maybe fine a recipe that doesn't use any juice at all. I'm just concerned that the fruit itself would cause the dumping. Any advice?
  9. I'm 26 and have been overweight all my life. I've recently discovered I have fatty liver and high cholesterol which at my age is pretty scary. That's what made me take the step and look into gastric sleeve surgery as I felt the other two offered are not right for me. I have a daughter that needs me and I want to be here for her, be a better mom, and set a good example. But as I researched and read more about the sleeve I've become kinda scared and wonder if I'm doing the right thing for me. Am I going to be able to keep up the lifestyle necessary for the next 50+ years of my life? How will this affect me when I'm 70? What if they come out with something in the future where I won't have to to loose half my stomach or deal with the side effects of a surgery? These are all things I am asking myself. Not to mention food intolerances, not being able to drink or lay down after eating, tracking Protein, Vitamins, ect. Although, I am fortunate enough where my insurance will pay 100% right now and I will be loosing this insurance next year. Timing couldn't be more perfect for this surgery. I know that I've tried everything I can and this is the only way I feel I will become healthy, and I want to start living not just existing. I want to start nursing school, which I know loosing weight will help me be better at my job, be a better mom, and wife. I'm not sure if I'm just scared of the huge change and fear of the unknown or if this really isn't right for me. Has anyone else had feelings like this? I'm really struggling with this.
  10. Sorry it took me so long to respond but I wanted to think long and hard about what everyone said and do some more research for myself. I want to thank every person that responded to my post. I have decided that I am going to move forward in having Sleeve Surgery. I should have everything submitted to the insurance company at the end of February and if all goes to plan surgery in March or April. I'm so glad to know that it's normal to feel this way and although I'm still scared I know this is going to be best for my health in the long run. Thanks again!
