  1. I had a "secret lap band" in 2008 and it was REALLY hard not telling people. only my parents and husband knew of the surgery. The fact that everybody knows me for my hefty eating habits made me self conscious during holidays and dinners with friends and family. This made me try to be discrete and I would eat more than I should have with did not help me in the long run. My band slipped during my last pregnancy (less than 1 year post-op) and I've had reflux issues and weight gain. Now I weigh more than I did at 9 months pregnant and I'm preparing for a revision surgery to get the sleeve after the band comes out. I don't want to hide this surgery, I don't want to come up with excuses for not eating, not being hungry and actually even eating more than I should. Who cares what people say, EVEN IF IT YOUR MOTHER, we are adults and this is a medical decision for our health.

I have been on this major diet for a year and only lost 45 pounds my family are so rude and say things like you just don't want to work for it... I just know that my weight loss would be everyone's topic if they knew if I didn't lose fast enough that kind of thing. All that matters to me Is my mom and teen daughters knowing. They know how hard I work now and will see that I am doing my best and support me. I do wish I had your confidence tho I hate having to lie or omit to my family!

  2. I told a few people that I was thinking about it and they made rude comments all of them. So my mom and daughters are the only ones who know. I told everyone else it wasn't covered by insurance and I'll just have to stick to my diet. It really is hard that my family won't be more supportive. At least I know I am doing this for me and I have tried my best for three years but am not able to get this weight off. I am so ready for this new journey to begin. Only a few months to go.

  3. @@dropdeadweightdiva

thank you I am required to take a nutrition class and have to be cleared by the nutritionist for insurance. I am doing a low carb 1500 calorie diet. My dr said after surgery my goal will be to stay at a 500 to 800 call diet. And to gets lots of Protein. I have no idea where to start with protein what's best the already mixed or maybe the can of powder dose it matter? I guess I should try to taste these things before hand. Thank you so much for the advice!

  4. I think she was just asking opinions. I have a friend who is 320 pounds and no comorbidities but a 200 pound friend who has three. I think it's used for both cosmetic and medical. I think some ppl have their own reasons for getting the surgery and nobody has the right to judge. If I got a Tummy Tuck because I had weight loss surgery and lost weight and needed it does that make me better than a woman who had a few kids and needed one. It's same sugery different reasons both are deserving. I think it's the same with wls. If a person has 30 pounds but can't get it off for whatever reason and decided to get wls it is the same as if she had 100 pounds to get off but couldn't.

  5. People are so inappropriate a wow you look good could have worked! Haven't been sleeved yet but I have been losing weight this friend actually said wow your belly is getting smaller I'm sure the back fat will be the next to go! seriously ppl can be so rude

  6. I think we have to be careful before we judge... my mother is only 50 pounds over weight but she has a debilitating disease that makes exercise impossible she already has two comorbidities so really surgery is the best option. She will be getting banded after my surgery we have to take turns because of my kids. I guess you just never know but I say if you have two or more comobidities then surgery is a valid option.

  7. I am having surgery 12/16/14 and I am so nervous it's crazy! I think it's because I work on the surgical floor that cares for all the post op sleeve patients including the ones who have negative experiences. I just cared for a patient who had a VERY bad group of issues related to her sleeve surgery and it was MY surgeon who messed up. Now I am freaked out beyond belief. Prayers would be greatly appreciated. I'm the only parent my daughters have and they need me in tip top shape asap! :)

Definitely sending prayers for fast recovery and easy surgery. So okie_ RN I assume your from Oklahoma too. I live in Durant ok I won't be having my surgery till around April just started the process 2 months ago but already nervous!

  8. My amazing boyfriend asked me to marry him!! We want a September wedding but I am having my surgery in April if everything goes as planned. I have completed everything required except my monthly visits the insurance makes me come in monthly for weight in and advice on my exercise. I am now realizing that I'll be losing but how much a month lol if I pick out my dress two months early will it fall off? I am looking any advice I just do not want to wait a year after my surgery I want to start my life with him I have been waiting 31 yr for this day...

  9. I decided not to share my decision with anybody except husband and few friends. My children (all girls) would tear me apart (2 in college and 25yr old in army).

I'm a LOW BMI'er 36 and African American. Most would think I'm just right/phat/thick but they don't have understand the comorbidities I struggle with daily.

I think a lot of people don't understand comobidities if they have never been In the situation. Good for you!
