  1. Hi all! I was sleeved 11/21/14. All was going great and i made my weight loss goal by about 10 months in. However starting july 2015 i have had one peculiar side effect: chronic throat infections.

Not talking like little scratchy throats. I am talking requires IV fluids with steroids, then oral levaquin and steroids for a minimum of a week. I am now in the middle of my 6th infection in a year. Docs keep chalking it up to having a 3 year old. But neither she nor my husband catch what i get.

I can only conclude that it has something to do with my sleeve. Something to do with the loss of good bacteria, the overuse of PPI's (they have me on pantoprazole still), the diet slipping (i *may* have enjoyed too much alcohol of late - all celebratory). Is it maybe an absorption issue? I don't know exactly. All I know is I have to figure this out.

Wondering if anyone else has had this side effect? Anything that has helped? I am getting my ENT and a new GI on the case this week cause I have had enough.

  2. Hi all - i was sleeved on Nov. 22nd, 2014. Down nearly 100 lbs and very happy.

However I recently came down with a throat infection that is taking me a very long time to recover from. Plus neither my daughter, husband or sitter got sick, nor any coworkers.

I just had my 6 mo checkup and the blood work showed a Vitamin D deficiency but it was still an improvement after the 3 month check.

Wondering if anyone else has had immune system problems post surgery? Any tips for improving it?

  3. Yeah if I were you I would hide some slim weights in your shoes or your bra. Trying to gain so much weight in 10 days may not be great for your health. Or like the previous poster said -- put a few rolls of coins in a pocket. Or have a super salty meal the night before. Good luck! These stupid insurance companies make me crazy getting in the way of personal medical choices.

  4. Mega - I was in the same boat. My daughter was 15 months when I had the surgery in Nov 2014. Thankfully my husband had time he could take off to help me with her for the first two weeks. And this may be terrible, but other moms will probably agree... It's impossible not to break the 6 week rule and not lift them. I think by day 4 or 5 post op I was picking her up, picking up her toys, doing baths etc. you know how it goes...things have to get done no matter mom's state. I ended up going back to work just about 2 weeks later.

As for food planning... For me it was way easier because I could eat so little. Hardest part was not trying to sneak a bite of my daughter's dinner and getting the hubs on board (and I walked in on my husband eating a big burger and fries once... He acted like I found him looking at porn). shakes in the beginning makes it super easy. Then you just adjust your shopping like you would with any diet. I am now down 43 lbs in 8 weeks.

Workouts I am going to start this month - just aiming for 30 mins 3x a week to start. Will likely have to be at 6am since the munchkin gets up at 7a.

Does that help? I was worried at first too with a little one but now it's just life.

  5. Hi all - I am scheduled for a sleeve this Saturday 11/22. My biggest concern? Post-op healing with a 14 month old at home. Hubs is taking off two weeks to help me and we have an amazing sitter. But i am not able to lift my kid for four weeks. My demanding little chicken is not going to stand for that.

To sleevers with young kids - any advice? Tips?
