  1. I had the same problem, every shake I tried was disgusting and would gag me. My doctor suggested mixing them with skim, soy or almond milk (I was using water). I have been using Almond Delight no sugar added with Unjury chocolate Splendor and it actually tastes good. I'm also just making 4 ounces at a time which mentally helps me too, I just have to drink them 6 times a day instead of 3. But this way it's really only 4 or 5 swallows. I also like the chicken Soup by unjury too. It's not bad. Bariatric Advantag has a latte flavored shake that's pretty decent, just don't mix with any of them with Water. Today is my 10th day on the shakes. The first 3 days was the hardest and I still miss chewing. My surgery is Monday morning so I have a few more weeks to go on the shakes. Good luck to you, hopefully you will find a shake that you will enjoy.

  2. Hi Mamabird, I actually live in Flowery Branch GA, I guess Raleigh shows because my surgeon used to practice there but is now in Gainesville Ga. His profile hasn't been updated. I see our surgery is only 2 days apart! I'm so excited but nervous too. I go Dec 2nd for my pre op appt with the Dr then on the 3rd for the pre op at the hospital. I'll find out then what time my surgery will be.

  3. I got the call my insurance was approved and my surgery is set for Dec 8th. I had a tentative date of 12/17 but it's now booked so it was going to be either the 8th or 22nd. I chose the 8th. The sooner the better! Starting my liquid diet Friday. I have a pre-op appointment with the surgeon on 2nd which I was told would last about 4 hours then the hospital pre-op on the 3rd. Will find out then what time the surgery will be. I am super excited!!

  4. I'm so glad I found this topic. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year when I was in ketoacidosis. Been on 5 shots a day since then plus 2000 MG of metformin. My dr recommended the gastric bypass surgery which I am having Dec 17th. my A1C was 8.6 last month. The surgeon said most diabetic patients are able to stop taking meds after the surgery. I'm wondering if it's because of the new diet or is it a change in stomach. How soon after surgery were you able to stop taking shots?

  5. It's a tentative date right now but it looks like it will happen after all. I met with the psych dr yesterday and he wants me to have 1 counseling session before surgery so I have that appointment on Tuesday next week. But he did clear me for surgery! The bariatric coordinator is calling in my case to the insurance company today but she has to wait until she gets the psych report to fax everything to UHC. I'm getting nervous now!

  6. That's great, I'm sure they'll get you in by the end of the year! I just left the doctor's office for my consult, met with the dietitian and the surgery coordinator too. Got tentative surgery date of Dec 17th as long as my insurance company gets the approval back in time which the lady said my insurance company is usually very fast. I'm so excited!

What procedure are you having Brandyjune?

  7. I was able to find another surgeon who was willing to take me in and he has some December dates available. I go see him tomorrow. The only thing I will have to do again is the psych testing (appointment today) and evaluation on Wednesday. The bariatric coordinator said she may be able to submit to the insurance company late this week or early next week. I'm so happy I made the decision to change doctor. I was able to get all of my records faxed over this morning. Hoping the approval process doesn't take very long!

  8. I'm new here but hoping someone can help me or give me some sound advice. I decided in Aug 2014 to have the bypass surgery as I read it can really help with diabetes which I was diagnosed with last year and now take 5 shots per day. I was familiar with the director of bariatric surgery of the local hospital as he had performed my colonoscopy last year. After attending his information class, I decided to proceed with the gastric bypass. I've completed all of his requirements then yesterday had another appointment with him hoping my package would now be ready to submit to the insurance company for approval. I've told him all along I neet to get this done by the end of the year since I've met my out of pocket maxium and because of my job. Our busy season starts January 1st and it's impossible to get PTO until June. He had previously said at my Oct appointment that if I was able to get everything done by the Nov appointment and assuming my insurance company doesn't take weeks to approve then I should be able to get it done by the end of the year. At my appointment yesterday he said he would review my paperwork at my Dec 11 appointment and I should have surgery in Jan or Feb. I left his office in tears! I'm ready to find another doctor!

Any advice would be very appreciated!
