  1. Hi. Hope everyone is enjoying the frigid weather :( ....I'm OVER it!

My question is mostly for Buffalo or Western NY sleevers or pre ops, but I wanted to open it to a more general forum in case others have advice about making sure we get this valuable info.

So my question is..... what size bougie did your Dr use? Did you discuss this before surgery? Did you have any say in the matter? I am pre op...just made it to my first info session but want to check out one more, but want to be fully informed walking in to this process - any advice with regard to buffalo surgeons and their willingness to make sure our questions are answered....I would be eternally grateful. Hardest part for me so far is choosing the right DR!!

I have been reading up on this and found a great resource so I will repost that link here... Thanks to whomever originally posted!!

OK, that is it. THINK SPRING ;)

here's the link on bougie size

  2. I am in the early stages Pre op, but I love thinking about this because I find it really motivating! To start I would settle for bending over without having my chest in my throat, and crossing my legs..... I have a very physically demanding job and I would love to just not have every joint in my body ache at the end of the day... so many other things... I honestly want to make a list and put it on my mirror to remind myself of the ultimate goal. Being so new to the process I feel like its easy to give in and say it will never happen, but I can make it happen if I truly put my intention there! anyway, hope you all have a good day!

  3. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be interested in hearing the do's and don'ts. The decision to go for it or not to is agonizing. It would just be nice to talk to people who aren't automatically shooting the whole idea down.... and to get feedback on Dr's, hospitals, etc... What do you do with regard to follow-up when your Dr is not from here? Have you found support with DR's here?

  4. Thanks! coffee sounds great. We should get a group together and meet up :) we would have to choose central spot. I initially thought that it was our choice but someone I spoke with made me think that it wasn't entirely up to me.. insurance and dr recommendation etc all play a role which I completely understand. The whole process just seems so surreal!

  5. Hello there. I am a Western New Yorker as well living in Niagara County. Haven't officially started the process yet and trying to learn more... What Dr's are you all seeing and are you happy? I am really only interested in the sleeve, but have heard that it is the drs decision.. is that true?

  6. I wouldn't be on this site if I didn't have issues with over eating, however I feel like even when I don't overeat I get gassy and bloated and find I am more comfortable on an empty stomach, but then if I wait too long I just feel sick... I just wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience and if bc the sleeve is so much smaller the same occurs even with an appropriate/recommended amount of food... not sure if its food choices, lack of acid, too much acid etc.... I think that's more where I was going with this question. Do dr's address other digestive issues aside from the restricton. Do you have enough stomach acid to digest the food you do eat with your reduced stomach etc... These are the questions I have as a pre op who hasn't attended any meetings etc... I am sure it has been addressed somewhere, but I don't recall where.

  7. Hello there!

I am pre op and just beginning my journey. I have and have always had digestive issues after I eat ( not sure why I feel better on an empty stomach most of the time unless I go waaay too long - I almost always feel worse after eating - or should I say OVER eating) I am just curious if anyone post op has had this issue and want to know if this was resolved post sleeve... Thanks.

  8. Hi there... I have had health issues but not the typical ones that would automatically be recognized... Brain tumor in 09, and massive hormonal issues that caused me uncontrolled uterine bleeding for three years until I had a hysterectomy ( they never really figured out why but the surgery gave me my life back..it was awful), and recently my Dr told me he would put me on cholesterol meds if my numbers didn't go down and he followed with "if it tastes delicious, don't eat it"... I was like.. ok thanks so much :-/

I may have apnea, but have been so busy I haven't really followed thru with testing for that... Im thankful that I don't have more major issues, but sometimes I think the brain tumor will work against me for this surgery.

  9. Hi All! It should be my husband because although he isn't obese, he could be more educated about HIS food issues....He is constantly yo-yoing with the same 15-25 pounds.....that said, whatever it takes for ME to get better is my focus.

I was watching something yesterday that was all about some studies that have been done on "diets" etc..., and how most (I want to say 80 percent or so but not certain that is the actual value reported) people lose regardless of which plan they followed ie: low carb, low fat, paleo, vegan or whatever... but a huge number gained back plus some extra.... ok, well DUH! no kidding! any of us could have probably written that report! The battle has never been taking it off, but keeping it off, well that's another story.

I really hope my insurance company will approve me.

Another question for all of you who may know... I have BCBS... does anyone have experience with them and getting approved for WLS... I have to say I do not want lap band and I am worried that's the only one they will approve bc of my BMI being under 40...

sorry, rambling here. Hope everyone has a great day :)
