  1. Two month appointment was on May 21st . Weight loss from March 20th (day of surgery ) ..30lbs Weight loss from April to May 4lbs Although 4lbs is not much I've lost a pant and shirt size.???? My Dr says that Im going through a stall which is pretty common several weeks after surgery and that I need to up my Water intake ..so I've been drowning myself in water since then and have lost another 2lbs since May 21st ???? . I didn't realize how important water was and that just drinking 40oz a day isn't enough ..I'm up to 120oz a day now . I'm still sticking to 30 carbs a day ..mainly eat Protein foods and some dark European chocolate . I've included a progress picture although it's not a big change but any change is a good change ????
  2. April 20th was my one month surgiversary . Had my month one post op with the surgeon on the 23rd ..I'm down 26lbs ..10lbs of fat BMI went from 43 to 39 I've been eating all Protein ..only carb intake has been from fruit and vegetables and practically drowning myself in Water which is helping tremendously with the "bathroom visits " ☺️ . My surgeon checked my band and said that it looked perfect so no fill was needed ..said I was doing great and cleared me to start working out ...???????? I'm extremely happy with my progress..I'm down a size in shirts and pants ....it's still a little weird adjusting to my pants being too big and being able to wear clothes that I still have tags on in my closet but I'm getting used to it little by little I think my biggest struggle will be my head catching up to my body changes .????????????????????
  3. Sorry for the late response ! When I go to see my surgeon he has me stand in front of an X-ray machine and we do a swallow test ( not sure what that liquid is called but it's disgusting ????)anyway we watch it as it goes down its really interesting From the last time I was there my band was tight enough that I didn't need an adjustment ..I'm following my doctors orders strictly so so far so good
  4. Today was the first post op appointment since my surgery on 3/20 ...my last weigh-in was at the pre op appointment on 3/11... Since 3/11 I have lost 19lbs ...I have been strictly following my doctors post op diet ..haven't had any problems with reflux or any "stuck" episodes ???? I definitely feel when enough is enough .i'm currently on water/yogurt/pudding /popsicles/creamy Soups /premiere Protein shakes -aka-full liquids stage which hasn't been too bad ..I'm not hungry at all so I have to make myself eat . I'm still a little sore but only around the port site and since I'm not eating enough I don't have much energy but I still make it a point to go for a walk every day ???? Although I've lost 19lbs I'm sure most of it is from Water weight so once I start to actually eat again (Saturday) I will lose a lot slower which is a-okay with me ...my goal has never been to lose 100lbs in 6 months I just wanted to lose steadily and be healthy ???? Will update again in a week ❤️❤️feel free to ask me any questions ????
  5. Yesterday March 20th was day of surgery ...went to the hospital at 5:30 ..surgery was at 8 ..took about 1 1/2 but I was really nauseated afterwards so they kept me until about 2:30 ...all in all it was great ! The gas though was no joke! I had it the worst in my chest ..nothing in the shoulders ..I walked a couple of times in the hospital and then at home as well so it helped ..I also took the GasX strips which were really helpful I'm taking pain medicine because I'm still sore ..so I've been sleeping a lot (they make me super drowsy ) I have only three incisions ..I was most worried about my liver but there was no fat on it thankfully ( nice and purple! ) lol I'm having some mucus this morning and am drinking a lot of Water in small doses so I'm sure it'll go away eventually Anyway, just wanted to give a little update ..now that I'm finally on "the other side " ...I will be doing updates every couple of days or so for all of you newbies ????

Why I am in love with my Lap-Band

Thank you for this post! This is so encouraging for the ones like myself who are going through this process . I am having surgery on March 20th and have had a little bit of anxiety but your post took all of that away ! .. I cant wait to have my very own post about my Lap-Band Good luck with everything !
  7. I've just received a call from my surgeons office that my insurance has FINALLY approved my surgery after 2 months of waiting My pre op with my surgeon is next week and I'd like to have a list of questions to ask him . Can anyone give me any ideas? Suggestions? I dont want to miss anything
  8. Thank you all for the advice! ... My doctor is well known in our city and is also known for excellent after care so Im not worried about that part thankfully . I will definitely take your suggestions into consideration when I put together my list .. What are some of the things that you've all had to purchase for the first week of being home? .. We havent discussed the post op diet YET I assume that will happen next Wednesday at my pre op appointment but any suggestions are welcomed eeek soo excited , scared, anxious, but mostly ready to get this weight off and be healthy

FED BCBS Standars Option - UGH

Thanks for the pep talk Im not recommended to start the pre op diet until three days prior to surgery. I have however started the diet three weeks ago for my own benefit. Im doing this so that I can get used to life "after" surgery. I didnt want to be in complete shock once the time arrived. I've lost 10 pounds so far so hopefully Im doing something right I was just wondering about the insurance wait time because I've seen in other posts that FEP BCBS is pretty quick and my surgeons office said max of two weeks for approval but this week is week # 3. Sometimes I can be pretty impatient I guess but thats only because Im anxious and excited about all of this! All in due time I guess
  11. So my paperwork was submitted by my surgeons office on 01/06/2015 .. Insurance has confirmed that they have it ... still no response .. sooo frustrated! . Has anyone had to wait this long? .. My surgeon always told me how great of an insurance this was and now ... silence for three weeks!
  12. As Im reading through many of the posts on this website Im noticing a lot of unsuccessful Lap-band postings... frustruations... "lapband has failed me" ... removals... etc... Im also noticing that many people are claiming that their bands are not working because they're unable to eat the foods that they like or they're eating too much or they're unable to eat bigger portions. Im wondering if people knew fully what they were getting into before they did this.. I dont want to be a critic because I definitely have no room to talk but why go through all of the trials and tribulations of surgery if you're not willing to do the work afterwards? .. Its like doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results... I understand that people have emotional issues that are never going to go away or that they dont know how to deal with or addictions that they're unable to conquer.I just feel like its very discouraging to the ones that are going through it for the first time like myself when people are bashing the "hope" of a better life when they're not doing what it takes to help themselves. I just dont think that its the Lap-band's fault... getting the Sleeve, the DS or Gastric Bypass you'll have the same results if you keep doing the same thing over and over. - Rant over -
  13. I personally like the Premier Protein shakes .. I started drinking them on my own three weeks ago while I wait for my insurance approval 30g of protein.. 5g of carbs and 1g of sugar !! ( they were recommended by the nutritionist as a post op shake but I wanted to get used to the taste beforehand ) ...I drink one for Breakfast and one for lunch ... It was gross the first couple of times but now it tastes like chocolate milk if you shake it well Hope that helps! p.s. costco is having a sale packet of 18 for $18.00 until mid February

    Is it just me....

Thank you both for your response I tend to be the type of person to take the good with the bad and then make my decision based on whats best for me in the end. I look at the negative posts and see why it didnt work for them so that I dont make the same mistake myself... I do however wish that more of the successful people would post on here to show us newbies how it all works and what to expect and what not .. I see that there are many success stories but only posts about how much they've lost in the year.. no one really talks about the challenges throughout the process . But I am not going to be negative nancy ... Im sure I'll have to figure it out on my own
  16. Im in the process of getting the Lap-Band myself, waiting for the insurance approval. Just curious, why didnt the lap-band work for you?

    Losing weight too fast/Feeling bad

Sorry you feel that way .. Has your doctor given you any advice on how to manage the rapid weight loss? ... What is it thats making you depressed, is it how fast your life is changing or is it something else? .. Let me know if you need anyone to talk to .. Im currently going through the process of getting it the Lapband myself so I would love to hear from you
  20. Hi all I have been researching the Lap-Band surgery for over two years now. I'm the type of person who needs to have all of the facts before I make any decisions especially something as long term as this. I've been struggling with my weight since I was a young child. Two years ago I was finally diagnosed with insulin resistance and PCOS after visiting numerous doctors and explaining the symptoms over and over again and after doing numerous diets, prescribed diet pills, low carb this and low carb that but nothing has stuck. I dont eat much(maybe twice a day) but when I do I tend to lean on high carb / high sugary foods. My primary reason for going through this process is because of my health.Everyone on my mother's side of the family has had diabetes, strokes, high blood pressure. I am seeing those symptoms in myself with the Insulin resistance that could easily lead to Type 2 Diabetes and at 27 I dont want to wake up one day and regret not living my life to my full potential due to my selfish stubborn ways. I am going for my 2nd follow up with my bariatric doctor in December . I have done the nutrition class and my psych eval is in December as well .. so I am taking the steps towards surgery. After reading the forums on this website for over two months now, I see that a lot of people are struggling with the aftermath of surgery. What I would like to find out from some of you that HAVE gone through the surgery is how do you get over the intial shock to your body? I imagine that for me it will be as if Im withdrawing from a drug ( carbs) so Im ready mentally but physically dont know how I'll take it.
  21. Thank you that certainly helps. I am most afraid of the physical effects ... the psychological I can control but the physical is what bothers me the most. I absolutely HATE feeling nauseous and dizzy . I do however anticipate that it wont be an easy transition because my life will have to change entirely in order to reach not only my weight loss goal but my health goal as well. I also have never been the "skinny" girl .. so as excited as I am about losing the weight and getting healthy Im also afraid of feeling uncomfortable in my new body. .. I know these are silly concerns but I do have them lol
