Supplies for post surgery?
Thanks!!! I added those adhesive pads to my list and checked the status of my baby oil (half a bottle still )

Developed Cold 3 days before surgery
I asked my surgeon about this because with three kids, there is always someone sick in the house lol! He said they don't consider it an issue unless there is a fever, or such bad congestion that it impedes your breathing. I would start pounding the vitamin c right now and drink tons of water, get some extra rest. Good luck!!

Supplies for post surgery?
Aside from foods/protein supplements - is there anything you needed for your wounds or anything else you can think of? I am working on my list! Thanks

Actual surgical procedure question
I was googling to see where exactly the incisions are for RNY-laparoscopic. Two things 1)googling such a thing isn't for the faint of heart, I saw some actual surgery pictures I wish I hadn't ???? 2) I see where the actual incisions are made and I am pleased because for some reason I thought they were much lower, towards the pelvic region. I have an odd/kind of gross question though, figure here's as good of a place to ask! The lowest incisions (towards your pelvic region) do they go straight through all of the belly fat? Or do they lift/prop/tape up the belly and incise under the fold? When I had my last baby they had to tape up my belly for the surgery. *MORTIFYING!!!* because she was telling me what she was going to do and why "gotta tape this big blob o' fat up so we can get your baby out" of course it doesn't matter because I assume they will put me under, before positioning my body. But then again who knows? Im starting to get jittery in case you can't tell 1/19/15 surgery date!

Snoring!
Omg I'm so excited! Thanks everyone!

Snoring!
I snore. REALLY BADLY! Like a beaver chopping wood my husband says. I don't have apnea or any other problems and my GP says it's likely because I am overweight. I hope surgery cures it. Has anyone else been "cured" of snoring after losing a lot of weight?

Sharing very little with very few
Funny I haven't told my in laws ("family", right?) but have told my brothers, sister, and parents along with my hockey mom friends. I like my MIL but she is very judgey by nature and my other in laws are as judgey as the day is long. I have surgery in January and won't even see any i laws til Easter, and then again not til July so it's all good. Tell who you are comfortable telling, and just work on a plan now for when questions are asked. Best of luck!!

strange topic...have you?
I haven't had surgery yet (1/19!!!) but my friend had bypass two years ago and went through the same thing - like everyone else said its ketones... Listerine strips are your friend - they say not to stock up on anything prior to surgery because your tastes will change but I have a stockpile of these already.

Has anyone had any positive post op experiences?
My mother always told me that, as a rule, people only write (ie: complain) when they have negative stuff to say. They are less inclined to rave about the good than they are to bitch about the bad. (Not saying they don't have a right to bitch and complain - I'm just saying)

First post op battle of the cold season help?
Sugar free Popsicles? I think they may also have some vitamin C. I think there are sugar free throat lozenges, maybe give those a try?? Hope you feel better

Sublingual b12 ?
Kind of a dumb question... How does this work?? I've had it under my tongue for 10 minutes and it is still there. At what point do I swallow it? Hubby think once it's mushy, I feel like it needs to dissolve and be liquidy? Instructions aren't helpful LOL!

GERD . . . Which Weight Loss surgery is best option?
As far as research on RNY, I googled my brains out, and have a close friend who had RNY two years ago so I picked her brain a bit.

GERD . . . Which Weight Loss surgery is best option?
My surgeon will only do RNY on someone with GERD. Even someone with frequent heartburn, not actual GERD, he pushes towards RNY unless the patient is absolutely certain their frequent heartburn is caused by the food they ate (spicy/acidic). I wouldn't chance it, and just do the RNY

Fat apron/belly hangover question
Thanks for replying :)

To be sleeved or bypass?
Chose RNY because I have reflux, and also I need to lose a lot of weight.

Fat apron/belly hangover question
Kind of weird and gross, but here goes I'm having surgery 1/19. I currently carry most of my extra weight in my belly. It hangs over and it just gross. I understand that I will never, ever have a flat belly unless I have skin removal surgery. My question is, is there a way to minimize the floppy skin? Wear a cincher? Douse myself in lotions? My doctor said I am still young enough (40) that my skin will likely bounce back in my face and arms... She said to moisturize. Ok, I can handle that and I also know that as I lose weight I will actually fit into undergarments that will help me look thinner under my clothes (spanx etc) just really worried that my floppy belly skin will be out of control! Goes without saying that my main goal of surgery is my health. Looking awesome is a bonus

Caffeine
Ok thanks!! I will definitely look
-
Caffeine
I'm going to look for that sweet and spicy! I have a vue, so the choices are limited because it's still fairly new, but I really like sleepy time - it doesn't make me sleepy when you say flavor syrups, do you mean the various drops that come in tiny bottles, along the lines of crystal lite or Gatorade drops?

Caffeine
Thank you for all the input!! I am down to one (large) mug of coffee per day!! I decided to go cold turkey from all caffeine except my morning mug, it was rough but excedrin migraine worked like a miracle! Yesterday I didn't use excedrin migraine I just took one extra strength Tylenol and was good! I'll whittle down my morning mug to half decaf some time next month, maybe after the holidays, and be on decaf by my 1/5 pre-op diet start date! Thanks for the encouragement everyone!!
