    November Banders

@@Ldimples I am so sorry that you feel regret. I woke up wondering like what the hell did I do, and then about day2 I kind of had a freakout moment. But I am officially one week today and I don't regret it. I have had issues to deal with like head hunger (wasn't expecting that so soon). and one of my issues is that I CAN eat things I don't really think I am supposed to. My satiety is decent, but I want to get really snacky at night. I know everybody's experience is different, but I was telling my husband some the thoughts/feelings I've been going through and he said, "it's kind of like you're learning about your body all over again." For me, it is. I am hoping that if you don't feel like you that this is just a time for you and your body to get adjusted. I am sending you virtual hugs!

    My band story

Hi AmandaKay, how long ago did you have your surgery? The shoulder pain is common, although I feel lucky to say that i ONLY experienced it the day of surgery. But it was excruciating! There are many boards and posts about the shoulder pain and different options include sitting up when sleeping, walking frequently, using GasX (or equivalent), rotating shoulder, etc. Again, I can't attest to these, but I do wish you lots of health and less pain!
  3. It is a gorgeous 71° in Dallas today - perfect for my first walk post-op. I walk 3 days a week to pick up my kids from school. Walking with my energetic 7 and 10 year olds kept me on my toes, that's for sure!
  4. This thread makes me happy I, too have only told a few close friends and my immediate family. No one else needs to know, and this really is OUR journey. I have an advantage, though, because I don't work. As for post-op hunger, I was banded last Monday and I am starting to get a little hungry. But, my first fill is Dec 9th, which seems to be quicker than what must people experience (3 weeks). I'm OK with that though.

    1st day walking

You go!!! I wish I had a treadmill, to be honest. It is about 15 minutes, sometimes less, one way, and then the walk home. Dallas is nice for now (weather) but it won't be for long. :/ the only good thing about picking up the kids is that i don't have a choice in the matter, lol. And today seems to be the day I have finally turned a corner, as they say. I have *some* tenderness, but not really sore anymore. I finally shaved today, woo-hoo!!

    November Banders

Hi Sophie, welcome! Good luck going back Monday. As for holidays, I feel kind of lucky. Sort of. My husband and I moved to TX from TN nine years ago so we only go visit family either every other Thanksgiving or every other Christmas. This year is Christmas so for next week it is only going to be the 4 of us (hubby and two sons). dinner for is will most likely look like dinner any other night of the week. However, last night I cooked the best beef roast ever and I was not happy that i couldn't enjoy it along with my family. Sigh. I am starting mushies now, though, so I am glad about that.

@@Ldimples I am so sorry about your dog. My family always had toy poodles when I was growing up. I can't say for sure but I am guessing the weight gain is due to swelling or Water retention, etc. It's good you're up and walking. Wishing you a continued good and speedy recovery.

Getting scared as it gets closer!

@@susancae, I had to stop reading the bad stuff. It was really starting to mess with my head. And I have enough fears without adding to it! I got banded Monday and had a bit of a freak out moment yesterday - the omg what have I done moment. But everyone here has been super encouraging. I had my little cry yesterday, slept better than I have all week, and woke up feeling great today. Just remind yourself of why YOU are doing this. I know that is a pat answer, but an honest one. This is all about freedom and the choice to do something for ourselves. You CAN do this. You are strong enough and empowered enough to do this.

    doubts?

Thank you guys,s o much, for your feedback. I feel a lot better today. Partially because I slept A LOT last night (apparently I needed it!). I just had this weird reality check yesterday. No one tells you that food still looks good and smells good. I mean, early post-op days you don't want to eat anything so it kind of surprised me. It has made me want to avoid cooking dinner for the family because I am used to tasting as I go, etc. And initially I was like, "holidays - phfft - it's all good! I'm not going to want to eat anyway!" and yesterday it hit me that I won't be eating Thanksgiving dinner with my family. It is only the 4 of us so it wasn't going to be a big shebang, but still. I can't remember if it was you @@gowalking or if it was you @@JustWatchMe but one of you said in an older post that you had to reach a point where you grieved the fact that you couldn't turn to food anymore. That really resonated with me when I read it, and I haven't even hit *that* place yet. But I am trying to be self-aware enough to know that this is going to be as much of a grieving process as a healing one. And today I am okay with that!!! :-)
  12. Today is my day 3, and I gotta tell you, I feel the same! I felt great yesterday, was very active, but today has kicked my rear. Nice to know I'm not alone.

ooo, I hadn't thought to freeze the shakes. I'll have to try that. Right now I am sipping on some chicken noodle Soup broth and it is THE BEST THING EVER, lol!

So I feel a little rougher than I expected to. Definitely more pain than I expected - but it is abdominal muscle pain, and I was very head achy earlier, probably due to some dehydration. I have had a cup of chipped ice, one protein shake, and I am working on a 16 oz glass of water. I am dying for something hot to drink (like broth) and I was an idiot for not getting any beforehand. I think I thought I did, but obviously did not. I've also been sleeping a lot today. Apparently I had a hernia as well, so they fixed that, too. Um, nothing else to really say. Right after surgery I felt a little nauseous and had pretty bad shoulder pain, but that seems to have gone away. My kiddos have been at school/with their babysitter all day. I think it is going to be an XBox night for them tonight!

Getting banded today, in just a few hours!
  16. I feel like the time from when I first investigated WLS to my appt on Monday has flown by. I mean, not just feels that way, but has been very fast. There was no lag time waiting on insurance (got approved right away), and it was just over a week from my pre-op with the surgeon to my surgery. Having said that, I did plenty of research before and feel confident in my decision, but in the last couple of days, I feel like all I have read are horror stories and people dissuading others from getting the band. Am I just nervous because surgery is in 2 days?? Is anyone else hearing or reading a lot of bad things about the band? Would love to hear that I'm not crazy for wanting this and that it will be fine!!
  17. Thank you for your responses. The horror stories I was reading were not from this forum, but another. I found a site via Pinterest and was looking at before/after pics. Then I came across a newbie post from a girl who was almost 21 and asking about things like scars and drinking because she wanted to drink on her birthday, etc. The replies were relentless and HARSH. I expect to see some bad stories, have seen some on this forum, but the backlash these ADULTS were giving this girl and the things they said scared me. Am I susceptible to fear a day or two pre-op? Why yes, yes I am. I came back here and found the NSV thread. That helped. Reading victories beyond the numbers, feeling people's happiness, having something to look forward to myself - I fell asleep. Now just one day to go.
  18. Exactly! Hang in there. I'm excited and nervous for Monday, but glad the waiting is over! :-)
  19. Do you know when your surgery is going to be? My surgery is Monday and the pre-op nurses called me yesterday, went over all my medications, etc. She she'd if I had taken any phentermine products in the last month. So maybe stop? Your best bet would be to ask your doc, but I thought it interesting and then I saw your question.

    Lap Band vs Sleeve

One of my reasons was so that if I get pregnant I could adjust the band or completely un-fill it. I would love to have another child and would worry about nutrition with another procedure. I get banded on Monday

Struggling with my liquid diet today. Yesterday was hard, too, because there were times when I wasn't hungry but just wanted to eat. I didn't though. and I haven't today, either. Just mentally struggling. just 4 more days to go. 4 days. I do have a quick question for those already banded. I assume your doc prescribed you pain pills like mine did. Because I am allergic to codeine, he game me Tramadol, which makes me pretty sleepy. I don't work so that isn't an issue, and I tend to have a pretty high pain tolerance, but I am just curious for those banded, have you been in pain, or felt the need to use your scripts?

Did anything ever get set up for Irving? My band is Monday. Would love to have local support, especially from people who have been there, done that.

    At 32....

Hi Tomika, I'm just going through old threads. My surgery is on Monday. I'm 34 and wanted to see what other 30+ year olds were saying and saw this. How are you doing? It's several months post-op for your now. I hope all has been well.
