Obsessed with weighing in... HELP?
jane13 replied to LittleMissCopular's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@LittleMissCopular - you are a Junkie (a scale junkie). I am one too. Its a bad thing and it can sabotage you as well. the monthly thing will screw with your head so try to not stress about the scale. keep taking those measurements (try on some old clothes) and stay the course. Congrats on getting your new "birthday" -
@@BrandyV2729 - sorry about the loss of your mom, that's tough. I deal with some of the same issues and I knew going in for surgery 3 months ago that my personal life (stress) and not sleeping was going to slow the loss. I am THRILLED to have lost what I have. Be excited you have LOST 88lbs!!! Get back on track and think about plane tickets to fly to see that beautiful grandbaby. Do you want to sit comfortably in a seat in a car or plane? Three of my grandbabies are in NM... Did you sign up for the Labor Day Challenge? I did to push myself. WLS is a tool, be thankful to have it - use it. Let us know how you are doing and set small goals for weight loss. Any loss, is a gain!

How long were you out of work?
jane13 replied to jfzimmerman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@jfzimmerman - I have an active job and I am also required to lift up to 40lbs by myself. Luckily I have an understanding workmate who said "I got it" and I was back on May 18th (Monday). I had surgery on Wednesday (the 6th of May). I could've come back probably the following Monday after surgery. I think me being mobile at home, the weekend & week following the surgery, helped me be pain free. No gas pains, cramps, etc. -
@@rora - I don't go everyday so I didn't worry to much for a couple of days. when I did it was "different" without TMI - loose & very dark. I have since had trouble because of the Iron supplements I was taking. Search "pineapple" here and it explains what it felt like Needless to say RN said to stop iron supplements until I get new BW done in about 3 weeks. I see doctor for 2nd f/u appointment on 9/8. She said if my iron is low we will address it then. I still have some issues but I add miralax to my drink or yogurt about every day (sometimes I forget) and I haven't had "pineapple" issues.

@@nyjocool - There are only a few "nevers" that I truly consider a "forever never". I am still a newbie, being post 11 weeks and 1 day, but I would have to list a big forever never as diet soda, or any soda. I was a big fan of caffeine free diet coke. I didn't drink them regularly but if I did it was that or regular sprite. I chew gum (sugar-free). I think you need to re-think about what "never" means post-op. I think in most cases, "never" a whole pint of ice cream, a big glass of fully sugar sweetened iced tea, bucket of buttered popcorn at the movies. IMHO you could have a couple of bites of the ice cream, a SF glass of tea, and a couple of handfuls of well chewed popcorn (minus the tons of butter) after you have had surgery and get past the restrictions on your diet suggested by doctor/NUT. I haven't had ice cream or popcorn because I just HAVENT wanted them. I have had tea, I just add the lemonade SF drops. I LOVE popcorn and not having it I thought would bother me. It hasn't. I am really not a big ice cream person but I used it as an example. I did the surgery for me, and have no regrets. I am wearing clothes I haven't worn since 2007. That's a "never" I thought that was forever (being able to wear clothes that start with a number 1)

You're too thin! Stop losing now!
jane13 replied to bellabloom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@bellabloom - you look great. if YOU feel great at 125, and your doctor is okay with it, then go for it! I am a little taller and I would feel anorexic at 140. I have my goal listed at 150 but that's like a DREAM weight. I am 52, and I am hoping to get below 170 first....then maybe 160...theres a lot of skin to flap in the wind now. -
Embarrassing tummy picture 8 months post-op!
jane13 replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Elode - I think your Mommy/Sleeved tummy looks great. You should be proud Mine looks nothing like that, unfortunately, but I do like to get some sun on it and get a little color so it doesn't look quite as icky -

Pureed foods, really?
jane13 replied to Jim in Utah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told pureed on day 3 and was glad to eat a scrambled egg with cheese. Still loving them and its been 11 weeks. I think just the option of other food is welcoming. I just wont eat anything that has no strong flavor (seasoned). If its bland - I am not wasting my "space" on it -

What you wish you would have known
jane13 replied to jfzimmerman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@jfzimmerman - Hi I was sleeved on 5/6/15....I wish I had known that just because I was the first surgery of the day that I would not get the "leak test" done early the following day. I knew it was supposed to be the next day but it was almost lunch time. -
@@stephh - thanks again for doing this, in my case where I am losing really slow I don't feel alone when some of my sleeve sisters doing the same :/

jane13 replied to sleeveittobelieveit's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
@@sleeveittobelieveit - you have done the right thing by contacting the professionals. If you don't hear from them within the next 24-48 hours I would make a trip to the OBGyn office. but that's me ;D Congrats! -

Having trouble deciding sleeve or bypass
jane13 replied to biggmatt714's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@biggmatt714 - if the surgeon is pressing the bypass then because of the amount you are trying to lose, I would listen to him. but again, that's MY OPINION. I had the option of any of the three: band, sleeve or bypass. I ALMOST did the band - and got the sleeve like I originally planned. I have no regrets, only that I wished I had done it sooner. Make the decision that is best for you - YOU know YOU better than anyone. Be honest with yourself about your eating habits and understand that this is again, only a tool. YOU have to do the work. best wishes and keep us posted! -
BCBS Lower BMI approval?
jane13 replied to tiffie00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@tiffie00 - I am a BCBS Fed employee spouse. I had a BMI that was a bit higher, but other health issues such as high blood pressure and they added pre-diabetic. I also could show trips to the doctor and being placed on meds to help also lose weight, Weight watchers, etc. I also was told I was a bit shorter, just under 5'8" and they could use that to bump up my BMI... IMHO think your medical history will probably be enough to get you approved : PCOS & Type II -
@@dhrguru - OMG you had been laughing so loud at the reference to the biscuit container!!!! I totally get that I used to use rubber bands, or ponytail holders to "extend" the button on my shorts or pants. Of course I hadn't worn pants with a zipper or button in about 5 years until about 2 months ago. Now I am wearing pants with ZIPPERS! and front pockets (that I can actually use).
-
@@beuTwithin - I would agree to contact your NUT. I have occasional days where I THINK I am hungry all day. Other days I have to tell myself to eat something (esp before taking vitamins). I have noticed if I feel that hunger feeling all day that it means I need to get my mind on something - anything - and get away from grabbing the small handful of pretzels, chips, etc. The nibbling will add up and I will catch myself trying to nibble. Drinking Water and waiting to see if that feeling is still there works for me too.
-
I think a lot of us had the thought of WTF did I do to myself, "my stomach is now a fraction of its size and I cant get it back....." It will get better and you won't even probably think about it if you are following the plan. No regrets here, jane
