Thanks for the update on your journey. Sounds as though we are on the same path. It is so encouraging to know that we are regaining our lifes and moving forward. I tell my husband (of 43 yrs) I want our life back, no medical problems, of fewer, I know that many are my own doing but I want to have the next years to be joyous instead of not being able to do things.

We all will benefit from this more mature group sharing I am sure so many of us feel alone, no more!

13 days and counting!

I am 65, have every co-morbidity you can think of: diabertes, 4 stents, pacemaker, sleep apnea, arthritis, bad knees,and on and on.

I am scheduled for lap band on 1/31/2008 om Scottsdale,AZ

I have spent the first 40 years a a thin person and from 40 on gaining weight and strugling to loose it. I want to live life again not huff and puff, not be able to walk without pain and to maybe even ride a horse. PLUS shop for regular clothes.

Not knowing where you live or your health conditions, I would strongly recommend you talk to Primary Doctor, if no support then go to another doctor. Best advice is to find a doctor in your area who has loads of experience and has a good pre-op, post op setup. I am 65 and tried to have this done for 5 years finally my cardiologist recommend Gastric and I oppted for lap band will have it done 1/31/2008. It took several months for pre-op work up and insurance clearance. But am so excited to be on my way.

Has any pne used this Center. So far very impressive, but would love feed back

I get banded in 7 days and I have been trying to get a handle on the no drinking with meals. This seams to be the hardest part for me!

My question is...can I chew gum after meals (to get the taste of the food out of my mouth) instead of drinking somehting??

My doc said gum is OK but should I chew is right after a meal or wait a few???

My pre-op is a modified Atkins with 60-100 grams Protein and 30 grams carbs so I get to chew for 7 more days!!:tt1:

Just returned from Pre-op classes (6 Hours) They said absolutely no gum because if you accidently swallowed it could get stuck in band area and have to have band loosed and /or have gum scoped out at hospital. They had just had a patient who had it happen and warned us not to do the gum.

I am so happy for you! My date is in 17 days and I am nervious but excited at the same time. If I can get off all the meds I take it will be a true blessing along with the weight loss.

Ok so I called the insurance company back yesterday about 2 more times..each time...lots of transfers...and ended up in the same spot...an answering machine everyone assisting other customers.....

did some online searching last night...found the prior approval tel number for georgia...called it this morning...lines busy....

called the other number I was previously calling....no luck....rep didn't even attempt to listen to me....asked me same question 3 times and differrent times on the call...:rofl: finished with her...."no there is no phone number for the prior approval dept" she said...

ha!!!

I refused to give in today....very fustrated in a private office at work....I was venting alone...:angry:angry

Decided you know what....I am going to be passive aggressive..

called back the number I found on the internet last night....

spoke to a rep who was lots of help (but everyone kept putting me on hold)(had the feeling something was there that they did not want to say) but I held....kind of joked with her and thanked her for being the first person to listen...she transferred me to a live person in prior approval....I was flabbergasted.....OMG:omg:

The rep I spoke to was very helpful....she said call back this FRIDAY....ouch..... I am praying ..praying every chance I get from now to Friday.....

She mentioned get this....my psych eval looked to be the hold up....

the psychologist did not put his license number in the report and he is not found as a licensed practitioner...say what!!!!

BCBS behavioral services approved him as in-network and covered the eval....so I look at my copies...and there it is NOT there his flippin' license number DARN!!! How am I suppose to look at that....But she told me not to worry she will be calling the psychologists office and my doctors office herself to get things clarified. Other than that nothing else noted.

I am so mad right now....my surgeon's office suggested that flippin' psychologist in the packet they provide to everyone...can you imagine how many people are probably having problems....errrrggggghhh,.

what should I do...should I go do another psych eval?

I thought it might be something like this, Thank God you perservered. I can feel your frustration and also your need to know. We will all be rooting for you to get the answer by Friday. At least now you have a number and a name to call at Insurance .

Ok so I call my insurance company directly yet again...

got the run around and transferred and transferred and transferred and transferred...then the woman I spoke to could not find anything for me in the system...I gave her the name of the last person I spoke to...she said...i know who that is, but I don't see a record for you I said faxed on 12/17/07 I have called before and others have found it...I told her what type of surgery...Lapband...she then goes oh..that's why...hold on that type is somewhere else...transfer's me and I had to leave a voicemessage...

this time couldn't even speak to anyone...what is going on...I was nice...but my patience is drying thin.....

Can I ask which Insurance company you are dealing with?

Also which state you are located in.

Another suggestion is to ask your doctor to give you a copy of all that has been provided to insurance. I found several mistakes and the fact that some information did not follow my insurances guidelines. It did take several months to clear up the mistakes and get my application back on track.

Was banded the 3rd. Shoulder pain that day, but not since then. I am still taking the liquid pain meds the Dr gave me. Still very gassy, but otherwise.... doing great.

I know how hard it is to wait but focus on your pre-op diet and do what is in your control to do. The approval will come and you will that much further ahead when it does. Remember how far you have come to this point!

I had to wait for 8 month for approval BCBS said that even with co-morbidityproblems I needed to be on diet with doctor for 12 months, but thank god I became eligible for Medicare and they approved, now just waiting for all the doctor's clearances to proceed on Jan 31

On day 13 of my liquid pre phase and when I mix Carnation Instant Breaksfast, sugar free, with Isopure chocolate with 2 carbs, it tastes like an incredible milkshake. Had three of those, and some broth with veggies today. 825 calories for the day, about 100 grams of Protein.

33 hours to go to surgery.....

Hi Everyone -

I'm so excited to have found a group that is going through everything that I am right now!! I'm looking for friends that I can share my journey with and hopefully learn from and encourage as well. I'm going into week three of my PreOp diet, lost 12 lbs the 1st week, and not much this week. But I'm back on track and looking forward to what the future has to offer. I've passed all my pre-surgery testing and now I'm just waiting for the BIG day.

I'm here if anyone needs me!!!

Best of everything! I am scheduled for 1/31 and will start Pre-op when I return from Christmas vacation. I give you all a big hug to keep you all on track! We have all made the hardest decision now to make the follow thru. Think how greasat we will look and feel next year at this time.
