    New 60+ Thread

I have lost 12 pounds since surgery. Had a Realize 10 cc band done. I had one fill of 3.5 cc and see no restriction; but also am not hungry, think this is due to low carbs and high Protein diet. I find food not so exciting anymore and I am a gourmet cook. I also find I can look at food and see the carbs and fat and then say no. This is new phase of life for me. Still appreciate good food just in very small bites. Much of my restriction is mental not by lapband, that will come. I can measure the milestones of WLS in other ways: ring size has dropped to 7 from 8 1/2 shoe size has dropped 1 size pants I had not worn in 4 years fit the way they should I had a complement on my skin how clear and smooth it was I smile more I sleep better I can jog now (at least on a underwater treadmill) I exercise 3-4 times a week up from 0 I have made many friends on LBT I have gone from 2X to XL in all my shirts I am measuring my steps in all my areas of progress instead of on the scale! We all want to be successful and it will come, the Band will do what it is suppose too when we get it, our minds and bodies all in sync. Love to you all Have a great day!

low carbing it? come join me

I found that EAS protein drink is the best when made with 1% milk and ice cubes (30) like a milk shake. I try to get to 70 grams protein a day, 900 calories a day, and no more then 40 grams of carbs. How does this measure up to what everyone is doing. Last month I only lost 2 pounds but did drop a dress size, could I be converting to muscle?
  6. You could be one of the lucky ones! I know when I lived in MD the state required all insurances to cover WLS for MOrbidly obese ( over 40BMI). There will be other requirements but usually from your Doctor, You are on your way now Good luck and keep going!

    New 60+ Thread

I am going to contact the Nutritionist at the Bariatric Center I used to see what they say. They were adamant about getting over 60 grams of protein a day and forget calories, my calories are averaging about 900 a day now but with the fill I am sure that this will go down. Dr. said again yesterday, 3 meals a day no more then 20 minutes in duration, no more then a cup or when full, and increase my water. Will let you all know what nutritionist says. Already am having trouble of thinking about food, could this be " anerioxa" Bad joke!

    Lap Banding and Medicare

I did contact Medicare and found I could submit my own itemized bills to Medicare, I had to wait 3 weeks but did receive forms and instructions on how to do it. Now the big Question: HAS anyone had their FILLS paid for by MEDICARE? Thanks for any information you can supply. Karen

    New 60+ Thread

Hi Guys, I really need a boost. Went for my first fill and it went fine but when I stepped on the scale after 2 months I had only lost a total of 12 lbs since surgery. I am excercising 3 times a week, 1 1/2 hours per time, watching protein 70 grams per day, 3 meals only, trying to get water increased, no snacking. What is going on? I am really being good, not even hungry, sometimes have to force myself to eat .
  15. Okay, Tomorrow being Aprl 1, get me started on this challange. 600 minutes a week, or what? I guess I somehow missed the Challange particulars and want to do it for April. HELP
  16. I rinse my mouth with a good swallow of water after I have eatten, but that is all. It seems to work and stop the need for more.

We do great even better then the "younger ones". We have seen it all and know what the alternative is if we don't do something. Our Attitude is good, we know there will be some discomfort but also know we are just key strokes from support from those who have already gone through the surgery and all the steps after. So go to it and Kick ass, we are all behind you and will be there to support you when you need us!

The "S" is the breathig apparatus that they gave me at the hospital. Sorry I can never remember the correct name. I no longer use it but it did help in the beginning.

    New 60+ Thread

Since I have not had fill I am not the person to address this issue, although I will say that I had a Realize band in and I know mine can go in excess of 10 cc. BUT I would suggest you post your email on the fill support group threads, there is a wealth of info on those lines, just will take some time to go through them. Another suggestion, how many grams of protein are you getting a day, When I hit 60 grams a day I never get hungry and do not crave food at all. It also makes me full. I start the day with a protein drink made with milk (1%) and a half a banana, this gives me 32 grams to start my day. I am slowly working my way up. Proteins first, then vegetables and fruit. I honestly am never hungry. Give it a week try, but please call you doc back.

    over sixty seven

I am 65 going on 44, at least I feel that way now. I was banded on 1/31/08, while I handled the surgery pretty well I did have a slow loss for the first 5 weeks only 10 lbs, but now that I am exercising 3 times a week I feel both physically and mentally better. My first fill is scheduled for 3/31, I have really not been hungry since banding. stay on Proteins as much as possible, over 60 grams per day. I am more then willing to be there for you to talk to, you can either do on this web site or by private message and we can exchange emails. You will do great and be so glad you did it. I live in AZ so the weather is on my side but no matter where you live just remember this is for "YOU". I started gaining weight at menopause in my early 40's and over the next 25 years just never could take it off and keep it off. I have decided that what ever time I have left I want it to quality time for me and my husband. I feel so fortunate to have the support of all on this web site that I know that it has made it easier for me to keep going in a positive direction. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers especially next week.

Hang in there, remember to eat at least 60+ grams of protein, eating protein first and then the other things. Also eat no more then 20 minutes and 3 times per day. Also challenge yourself to excercise at least 30 minutes 3 times per week. It will be slow till your body sees that there is no more coming and lets you start to change the metabolism.
